Movie Reviews Part 2 - The good, the bad and the ... rentals

chicken little

having been out for nye, and functioning on pretty much no sleep, i decided to rock along and watch a movie that had been described in reviews as "clever", "funny", "like shrek, having references to other movies & fairy tales" (i counted 2...), and "having as much for the grown ups as it does for the kids".

so, i thought this would logically be the movie to go see..

well.... i was wrong.

this movie sucked, big time.

i want that hour and a half of my life back, so i could spend it staring at a wall trying to find images of the virgin mary in paint splatters.

Halfway through watching a film called Crash which is thus far really good. Unfortunately the DVD it is on was not worth the 5c worth of plastic it probably took to construct it and insists on locking up just when the movie is winding up to its crescendo.

Anyways it's a great movie about multiple forms and examples of racism in L.A. I'm guessing towards the end of the film all of the characters will have learnt some valuable lessons. It was aiming that way.

it did, the movie kinda sucked in that aspect
everything was so blatantly obvious, but i guess i was expecting something completely different
i wanted a twist ending :(

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Um, am I the only person who thought this movie was really lame? OMG he was so fucked up and like, that is so cool. Or not...

Fear and Loathing is great. It descends deeper and deeper into depravity as the film goes on but it's still a great movie. Johnny Depp as per usual is brilliant.

I finished the book the other day and would reccomend you read that before the movie if you can.

Johhny Depp was great but then I'm in love with him so of course I'll think that. I just thought it was boring and repetitive. The person I watched it with said the book was much better but I can't see myself bothering to read it.

Hmmm... Honestly I think if you're in the same head space as what the actors are meant to be in then the film rocks... Each time I've seen it I've been on something different, and always get something out of the movie each time I watch it

I bought fear and loathing as it was cheap and I'd heard such good reports.

I wouldn't even recommend renting it. It sucked.

Drug users are just 'omg.. it has drugs.. it rocks man'. Yeah, it was totally cool! Really...

^^^ yer agree

I didnt enjoy that moive at all, i found it very boring, the only part of that whole movie that i thought was good was when the carpet was moving because thats all i could relate too.

But any novice drug user.....would think omg....great movie......just like Groove.

Anyhoo......I hired out Deuce Bigalow - Euopean gigalo
Meh!, wasnt as good as the first, ending was very quike, but it alright if u want to watch a movie and not think and just sit there.

f&l? well my parents liked it, and they hardly even drink :\

the source material is primarily an account of a drug-fueled las vegas trip, so is it really all that strange for the film to revolve around the character's consumption of drugs and the situations they find themselves in as a result of said consumption?

great art can have no deep and profound meaning, it can just be pretty to look at. script aside, this film is gorgeous and the acting superb. Gilliam is one of those rare directors who paints films, Depp is the best actor of his generation. i cannot fathom how anyone could not find this film worthy of a mere 2 hours of their life.

^ See I think that's totally over-rating the film. It was not art. It wasn't even interesting. Depp was okay but it wasn't as if there was any magnificant characterisation and the plot... I mean, what plot?

It was basically two people getting really fucked up and doing fucked up things. Yayayaya!

i don't understand, so you only like films where the subject matter is something you can relate to? i guess you thought boogie nights sucked too?

btw, i don't think anybody thought groove was great, or even good for that matter.

c'mon. depp ok? put him and the late hunter s together and you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. you can't appreciate the set design, the cinematography, the dialogue?

"It was basically two people getting really fucked up and doing fucked up things. Yayayaya!"

exactly, and it was shot and acted out perfectly.

Or gee I don't know, perhaps there are actually people out there that like that kind of comedy??? The movie could have actually been done with different kinds of alcohol for the entire weekend of the movie... So don't just start dissing drug users if they find a movie funny

It's not an amazing plot driven movie that keeps you guessing but it's a good fucking time. The scene where he is first checking into the hotel is brilliant.

"We MUST have that suite!"

It's just my opinion.

Don't let it bother you, since you like to remind me how little you care for it.

How little I care for what? All I'm saying is that it's a funny movie, and it's not just becasue of the drugs... I didn't think it was too bad :)

Well that's great.

I'm glad someone enjoyed it!

I'm drunk now, for the first time in 3 months, so I don't know whether I'm nonesensical or not.

but yeah, I thought the movie sucked. I wouldn't recommend it. And heaps of people I've spoken to seem to think it's awesome. And I can't possibly see how? It sucked. It had no plot. Other than the actors getting shitfaced... which I admit can be fun. But still... not overly stimulating to watch.

there are nuances in the movie which you obviously paid no attention to.
some interesting cameos in there too :)
