I admit that it was one of those movies where I was in my own head space. It started to bore me only 1/3 of the way in.. so after that... I was only in semi-realization as to what was actually going on.

I'd watch it again.. but..

[I think that says it all]

hey, let's change this to the "defending fear and loathing in las vegas" thread
and we'll all accuse the people who didn't 'get' the movie of having lesser intelligence than the rest of us

you fuckers carry on like a herd of arts students
it's called taste, and funnily enough, not everyone shares everyone's preferences

there are nuances in the movie which you obviously paid no attention to.

...yep

i don't understand, so you only like films where the subject matter is something you can relate to? i guess you thought boogie nights sucked too?

btw, i don't think anybody thought groove was great, or even good for that matter.

Na mayt, i just didnt like the movie at all, generally id articulate if i enjoyed a movie id remember the storey line or several scenes, however all i can remember is that carpet bit. That’s what I meant :)

a rob schrieder movie where you don't have to think? who'd have thunk it!

Thanks for stating the obvious :\

Preacha stay the fuck away from abusing you. Suprisingly not everything in your life should be about picking fights with me. If you actually read all the post's about it, krc said that drug user's get the film. All I was saying is that some people like that type of comedy, and some people like the way it was presented. For fuck sake man grow the fuck up. krc understands where I was coming from, and just like in other threads other people understand my point, I'm not saying people can't have a point, if I did there wouldn't be any use in talking in a forum now would there? Seriously grow up

^^ um, fats, i didnt quote you or even mention you dude
take a deep breath
count to 10
then edit your post

I'm not editing shit. You KNOW that post was meant to me other wise you wouldn't have said "we'll all accuse the people who didn't 'get' the movie of having lesser intelligence than the rest of us"... Which is exactly what you were having a go at me about in another thread...

i wouldn't even say the film rates in my top 50. all i'm saying is that it has merit and it shouldn't be judged on plot alone. if every film followed "the rules" aka hollywood, films would be boring indeed. if anyone thinks i like it because of the drug content, let me just state that i hate requiem for a dream.

haha this is funny. Kinda wish I hadn't mentioned it in the first place...

Firstly, Fatz he wasn't referring to you. I don't think anyone would ever accuse you of acting like an Arts student. You need to learn to ignore preacha and perhaps ease up on the over-sensitive reactions. :)

Secondly, I can definitely see where you're coming from ss but I didn't find the dialogue particularly witty or entertaining and I'm not enough of a movie critic to really appreciate cinematography. I just found myself bored after not very long. For me, I would have liked it if it was a short film. Maybe.

I think I was just expecting too much because nearly eveyrone I have spoken to about it praised it highly.

............and subject change...........

pl4yer0ne and i went to see Fun With Dick and Jane this weekend, and it was funny funny funny.

jim carrey usually gets on my nerves, but not at all in this, and i think tea leoni was perfect for his wife. i really liked the ending, the happy one you always know is coming, but with a little twist i didn't see. i give it 3.5/5

^ was it like the ending in f & l though ?? :D

Kung-Fu Hustle Ah, wonderful movie. Think kung-fu on crack. [snip]
9/10
If you liked this (i did) then you must see his/their? earlier work: Shoulin Soccer. Best movie in the funny-but-good-kung-fu genre that ive seen

Went and saw The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe
Its official: Aslan is cooler than Jesus.
It was a pretty cool version of this classic story

Watching child actors makes me squeamish, but loved the battle scenes ... top class.

7/10

Aslan IS cooler than Jesus. Unless jesus had Liam Neeson's voice too :P hehe... Only thing I wasn't too happy with, they ended the "Chronicles" in the one movie. But hey, I'm sure they can bring people back to life.

Ooh wait, the other thing that gave me the shits. It's a Disney film. So unless it's a bad guy, everyone who dies, will most likely come back to life

14/19

I don't think anyone died did they? They just got frozen into iceblocks or "thwarted", as per the kiddie-friendly version of violence. :D

I liked the movie too.

I made the mistake of buying what is, unequivocably, the world's WORST movie on dvd recently. Sample People. You know, the one with Kylie Minogue which is trying to be "Go" or Human Traffic, but just ends up being a vomitous unwatchable mess. Yes, I'd heard it was bad; really bad. But it was on sale for $4.99 and I thought to myself, "Self, how *bad* could it possibly be?".

Well, I found out. And I cried over the loss of that $4.99, and the loss of 1/2 hour of my life (which was all I could stand before I had to turn the dvd off).

-100/10

some interesting cameos in there too :)

"Is that me?" :)

I can't belive there are people that didn't like Fear and Loathing. The book is amazing (as with everything of Thompson's I've read) and it is a testament to Gilliam's directorial skills that he was able to take such a flow of thoughts type book and turn it into a fantastic movie.

Nearly every line in the movie is quotable. And it is one of those films I can throw on time and time again and not get sick of it because it is such a fun experience to watch. I guess mention also needs to be made of Depp's portrayal of Thompson as well.

If you didn't like F&L what type of movies do you like? Sure it didn't have a clear and linear hollywood script but that is what makes it so great and not a piece of shit like most hollywood trash.

And Up All Night give the book a try. It's fairly short so if you don't like it's not like you will waste a lot of time. Hunter's prose is something that needs to be experienced.

^I agree with everything you said, FaTz. It was condensed and didn't go into as much detail as I would have liked, but I think that was the point- - - to give the audience a taste and then go on with the other books later.
I loved the look and feel of this movie. Ethereal, soft and lilting - it was just like I used to feel snuggled in my massive bed with a cup of steaming milo reading via a little pink torch.

Two thumbs up for this one.

i'm really quite the fan of director terry gilliam. in the last week i've seen fear and loathing in las vegas, brazil, and 12 monkeys and i rate all of those movies very highly.

especially f&l and 12 monkeys both of which imo are fantastically shot, well acted and entertaining to watch.

i also saw irreversible the other day, and.... woah. one of the most emotionally disturbing films that i've watched in a long time. i had no idea what the film was about when i picked it up, i just had heard it mentioned once in class about the way that it's shot so that the story runs from the end to the beginning instead of the other way around, and thought i might aswell pick it up and give it a go out of curiosity when i saw it at the vid library. but the fact that the film opens with the credits and thus continues to run backwards is only part of its weirdness. artistically speaking though this film deserves merit for it really does challenge film structure and it has some nice contrasts in it, thus allowing it to achieve a certain level of harmony in the end. i'd give 4/5 stars.

Hmmm... Just watched Coach Carter... and WOW. What a top fucking film imho... Absolutly kick ass true story about a Basketball player who broke EVERY record, and then came back to the school 30 years later to coach a team of mis-fits' and gangstas. Instead of just Coaching the BB Team. He tried turning there grades around, and ended up doing a "Lockout" of the gym till they all starting passing, because he knew what type of life they'd end up having without a good education.

Samuel Jackson fucking rocks' in this, with a cast that you'll most likely recognise from other small roles...

Didn't do too well out here because it was realeased 5 months after the states, and the dvd came out 3 weeks after it came out at the cinemas.

I give it a 9.5 our of 10

"ye gods" - in the true astreix-obelix form (were they gay lovers or what?) - too much to reply to.

fatz: jesus is lucky if he even has dreans about having Liam Neeson's voice.

lostpunk: agreed, depp is an artist, which is way different from an actor that is a nameless cameleon or a 'fixed' personality. hunters writing is a stream of consciousness, he just knows how to describe a 'state of being', very cool

COTB: re snuggle up with milo + torch, etc: and i thought it was only me. btw, where the hell were you the last few days in melb, hmm? jeez :(

re dreamtime: irreversible. shit. no idea what to say about that movie. it was like being in a state of shock, witnessing things im not sure i wanted too, for a period of time i wasnt sure i liked ... then it ended. hated the camera crap they did. really liked something about it, but not sure what. mixed up experience

if the spinning camera thing and strobe lighting had of gone on for the entire movie i would of eventually turned it off: it was pissing me off too. that's what i meant about the contrast thing... cos it did stop about half way through, and the colours all gradually changed by the end hence creating a sort of ying-yang thing, which was cool i thought.

Irreversible: I remember hearing that, at it's first public screening in Europe, the soundtrack contained a subsonic frequency used by riot police to make crowds feel sick. Then i saw the film, and even without that, the opening five minutes were quite a disturbing experience. I watched the film in a very "film student" frame of mind, analysing the techniques used, so the i was emotionally detached from the scene which nearly got it banned (in the tunnel). But, the opening scene with the fire extinguisher was so impressively handled it made me feel sick for hours. Seriously, can anyone tell where the actor was replaced with a dummy?
