mmmm cheese....how good is cheese (The Australian Cheese Appreciation Thread!)

woohoo! The cheese thread's back. I love cheese too, I eat a shiteload of it. I'm picky too, I always pay the extra and get Mainland tasty, cos most of the 'tasty' cheese you find in supermarkets is better described as 'tasteless'.

Reading thru the last few pages of this thread, seems like there's a fair few BLers that like their cheezus. I'm thinking.. when the weather gets a bit better, how bout a BL excursion to the Botanical Gardens, via the Vic market to buy lots of cheeses.

I've done this before and it's unreal, you buy food and drink at the markets, then have a picnic in the gardens. A wide variety of cheeses will be imperative of course. As I'm sure wine will be also ;)

apparently this company called "jindi" just won some award...i'm not sure if it's for the best cheese in the world, or just the best brie in the world........

all matters aside, they make a fucking hella nice camembert.

lol...

the latest shit i have been eating... that sounds wrong...

the latest cheese i have been eating is... Cracker Barrell, i dont know who it is by... but fuck it is good!

^^ lol

I heart cheese so much! Any kind of cheese is good, but some faves are;

* Camenbert
* Brie
* Vintage Cheddar
* that red cow (i think it's red) cheese - it comes in trangles from the supermarket, has a cow on the round box...??

bring on the melbourne cheese picnic! :D

Do I daresay you will be in Melbourne again for my birthday? And nickyj too? (Jan 4) :D

Oooo how I heart cheese. I have missed a 21st in its entirety due to being inside near the cheese platter, a bottle of wine by my side. I also seem to make good friends with people's parents, as I am gorging their food... and with a little bit of cheese knowledge anyone can be upper-class! :p

There's a special place in my heart for those fruit cheeses ( I have eaten the whole cheese in one sitting), double brie, a really pungent cheddar and blue vein.

I love cheese!!!!

Cheese is rad... especially:

tasty cheese is just the basic process of making cheese ( i.e splitting the milk, the age it for a while)

cheddar is considerably better for something cheap.
i prefer edam, gouda for normal usage.
emental for lovely sandwiches, havartini for munching on the go.

parmesan - pasta and salads.

i however HATE ricotta - if that's even called cheese.

I'm pretty sure tasty cheese IS cheddar. Just a slight variation on it. That being said, you clearly know your cheeses, so I may stand corrected.

love Edam, would just about eat it exclusively for normal use but i dont make it to the markets often enough and i go through cheese quickly. Plus i'd feel like i'd wasted it if i used it in a toasted cheese sandwich (which is a staple of my diet).. tasty works better for that.

Jalsberg.

Im no expert but from what i know, cheddar is at least aged for a couple of years. (unless it's mass production and cheap)
