mmmm cheese....how good is cheese (The Australian Cheese Appreciation Thread!)

beech: you do realise that cheese is full of saturated fat , which has been proven to raise bad (LDL) cholesterol?

And that *some* brands of margarine - for example Flora Pro-activ - are packed with healthy, mono-unsaturated fats which lower bad cholesterol, may actually help raise good (HDL) cholesterol levels and protect against heart disease? ;)

First off, many thanks to my fans ;) Extra cheese for them! In all honesty, I had start to worry about the lack of cheese appreciation that was on this board, but this thread has both restored my faith in humanity as a whole and has firmly cemented bluelight in the "cool cheese" category.

I love cheese. hell, I love it so much I thought it good enough to make part of my nickthecheesename. it all started back in year 10 when I was running for school captain and needed to get lots of people to vote for me. What better a way, I thought then, then to advertise my captaincy with the words 'free cheese' emblazoned across the top of my mini-bio. It worked, and keeping with the thousands of years of the political system, I promised, yet did not deliver.

Mersey valley sharp and crumbly is great. Soft cheeses are great, but dear old tasty is my favourite cheese. Giant slab of tasty melted.....mmmm melted cheeese....
*drools on the keyboard*

Yep Bega Tasty cheese is fantastic... although I have recently been tempted into the dark side of the cheese with Mainland Tasty (damn those New Zealanders...) but its Bega all the way for grated cheese :)

And I can't sing the praises of Danish Fetta more highly. Its like your usual fetta except that it is softer and creamier and smoother. Fan-fucken-tastic :)

I can also never go past a good brie or camembert :) and I definitely agree that the best cheeses do come from Australia, and King Island in particular. Now that is some magnificent cheesy goodness :)

CB :)

SLM i'm well aware of the cheese and sat fat issue thats why i'm adament about not adding further 'nasties' to it. And yes yes your correct there are the healthy butter/margarine products out there but in my experience they taste like shit and i'm not a huge fan of munching down on overly processed or artificial foods.

Since it is coming up on lunch time now I think I shall indulge in Omlette Ala Beech. Its really quite simple and here is my recipe for a mouth watering lunch.

Crack and whisk a couple of eggs and some milk(however many u like depending how hungry u are). Chop up and combine anything and everything you have in your fridge such as tomatos, onion, bacon, olives, mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, pine nuts, whatever and then throw em all in frying pan and cook em up.
When above stuff is cooked whack in the egg/milk mixture and cook away omlette style.
Before it is totally cooked and is still bit runny throw in some grated cheese. Make that a shitload of grated cheese, the more the better. Then keep cooking til cooked and yay ya have a kickass cheesy omlette ala beech.

yeah righto the recipe isn't the greatest and too well set out but hey i'm hungry and in a hurry to get some cheesy goodness.

auditions are still open for an offsider for the show, oh and for someone to bankroll the program. Nickthecheese just because of your name you could be the frontrunner for the sidekick position, but it would help if you were a leggy blonde.

Just a bit of quick cheese trivia.

Q: What is the difference between a camembert and a brie cheese?

Winner gets a beech super cheesey omlette. :)

hey hey hey easy on. Ya can't just go handing out my omlettes willy nilly.

I'll give 10 points to who ever can name the cheesiest track doing the rounds of bad nightclubs at the moment.
ok ok 10 points and a Omlette Ala Beech.

ok so i'm back on the cheese bandwagon again. I'm currently sitting down to a block of DOUBLE BRIE, plate of semi sun dried tomatoes, smoked salmon, olives and water crackers.
So fully of cheesy goodness.
Recipe for perfect cracker:

Take 1 water cracker and place a slice of smoked salmon on it, then cut a pice of brie or double brie or camembert and place on top of smoked salmon (my preference is for a good double brie), top the cheese of your choice with a piece of semi sun dried tomato and a black olive.

On a side note the cheesey cooking show may not be going ahead. I seem to be having a few minor difficulties getting the backing for it and none of the networks seem to be too keen on it, they are apparantly happy with hacks like jamie oliver and jeff jansz.

The only cheese I eat is Nimbin. It's rubbery, bendy and tasteless... Just the way I like it. Everything else is way too strong for me now.

*DRRRROOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL* Sorry, I'll wipe the thread off with a cloth in a minute. :D

I had a similar snack just before Christmas; mum bought some Brie (not double, unfortunately), Greek Tzatziki dip, smoked salmon, ripe avocado and semi-sundried tomatoes... and I alternately layered avocado and smoked salmon, Tzaziki and sundried tomato, or Brie and avocado or Brie and sundried tomato(or any combination of the above really) on little toated bits of Lavosh bread. Oh my god, I think I might orgasm just remembering it.

Wow I am really glad that so many people like Brie, Being a Bree myself I have copped it in the past for being named after a cheese (actually I asked my dad where they got Bree from and he said there is a town in LORT called Bree)

^ ahh... I get it now....
