It'll be a monthly thing. :) Feel free to lump all suggestions in this thread, when the next one comes along we can stage a vote.

See? SEE how organised I am? /Flutters eyelashes

Could everyone interested in coming along to these foody appreciation events please ensure I have your email address? Danke and goodnight. :)

dad, why did the chinese build the great wall of china?

it was to keep the rabits out

Mongolian would be awesome for next (this?) month, I am totally there.

I would also like to throw out a suggestion for Half Moon Bay, home of the finest calamari in the land.

It'd also be cool to just open up the Cheap Eats Guide or the Good Food Guide (or whatever) and select some places at random and go there. I'm a fairly picky eater, so I like excuses to try new things.

^ i'll leave the fact of monday being the most common night restaurants are shut out of the equation...

lol, so true...

Just about every local restaurant in my area is shut on a Monday. I'd assume it be similar elsewhere.

Oh, and that Mongolian Beef sounds great! :)

i am keen to organise mexican (unless you had something special in mind fatz?) as there's a place on nicholson st that has taco tuesdays (makes me nostalgic for the alibi room in brisbane you see ;)) so i vote for there!

i'm keen for mongolian BBQ! :D

Okies, I'll give the Khan a call and get some details...

Mexican, well the best night in melbourne (Pretty much the most of victoria) is a tuesday, because they're always having special nights happening... Whether it's All you can eat Nachos' and Tacos' where you have to be asked to leave the premises because you look like you're going to explode, to which you throw up EVERYWHERE right out the front of the restaruant...............Umm.......Or so I've "heard"... Or extremely cheap Margharita's on tuesdays.

What I suggest is this.

I've chosen Mongolian BBQ

Poppins is really keen on Mexican

Zephyr & Breaky picked Japanese/Teppenyaki, but Zephyr got in first, so breaky you get another pick =D

Anna with Indian

If you can post a cuisine that you like, and I'll do the research of the places, hell I've eaten out enough in my life (usually drunk lunches with my grandad during work).

So in short, each person get's one cuisine, we all go along, if it's shit, then we get to perform the sacrifice of that cuisines' home land. Beit Indian and we slit thier necks like goats, or greek and we decide to send them into the MCG with lions, tigers and penguins...

PM me with your idea and i'll get onto it :-)...

If other people wanna organise it feel free, but trust me I know my food ;-), hell all you need to do is look at my Musceluar Phsyic :-) (sp?)

Ideas -

Italian
Greek
South American (Different dissues other than mexican)
Russian
Turkish
French
American (As in like one of those hogs breath cafes hehe ;) )
Spanish
Australian (I know a few places where you go out, and eat food in a camping style environment as the black fella did before my people lynched his people)
Chinese
Thai
German
Cantonese
Korean
Indonesian
Fijian

when i take my trip to melbourne, it's a fucking lock-in that the delights of doveton mcdonalds on the princess highway at 3am will be experienced

none of you are invited

this whole time I've been hanging around BL I haven't professed my one true, unyielding and never-ending love....FOOD!!!! Food is magnificent!!! Love it- love talking about it, thinking about it, EATING it.... ok well you get the idea.

so this talk about a BL Melbourne Food Society is right up my alley, and I am rather interested in finally meeting some of you. So count me in, and I'll try and come to the next food delight planned. Which uhh is??.....

We should go in the order of the list so Fatz should organise Mongolian BBQ first. If hes too busy he should forfeit and we move to the next thingie. My Japanese thing will have to be on the weekend at some stage as I work till 10pm or midnight during the week so mexican is out for me, unfortunately.

Looks like Ill be making nachos for one instead.... :(

Korean BBQ, theres a place in Clayton, Bentleigh and Victoria Street (North Melbourne).

Mexican suggestions:

Bluecorn - St Kilda
Amigos - Prahran/South Yarra

Japanese suggestions:

Wagamama St Kilda
Chocolate Buddah Federation Square
Fujiyama Brighton

Chinese? The Flower Drum :D :D (Book now, start saving, see you next year).

I suggest this take place on a weekend night [maybe Sundays to allow for the aftermath of going out?] just so we can accommodate those who don't have a 9-5 routine.
Yum Cha worked really well on a Saturday morning, too [despite the traffic issues].

I can live with not getting cheap margharitas. It's the food we're meant to be interested in anyway. ;)

My vote for the cuisine is African or Nepalese. =D

My vote for the date is around the middle of the month [ie: this month on the weekend of the 19th / 20th]. How does that suit everyone?
{Edited cos' I clearly can't read calendars. :|}

I second ruski's vote for Fujiyama in Brighton (not just because it's around the corner from me :p). And Wagamama, but I believe they're moving to QV soon?

We should do a very luxurious brunch also, with gorgeous eggs. I will put in a vote for Il Fornaio (sp?) in Acland Street.

Weekends suit me better, and I'm pretty easy with the date with enough notice :)

That weekend is the 19th / 20th.

This is why we don't let you organise stuff.

^we dont need a restaurant to throw food at each other! Lets do it right now!

/throws eclair at screen

That didnt work as well as I had hoped

:(

Ohh can we please not do "chains" ? Wagamama is soooo boring ! And can be expensive as well, comparative to the quality of food.
