[Melb/QLD] Earthcore Global Carnival 2006 - REVIEWS!!

This was my best and my worst earthcore since attending this event for 5 years in a row. I had a great timne because I wish with a large group of truely great friends and we had a great camp. that said, the organisation of the event was by far the worst ever.
Let me explain:

After travelling 6 hrs to get to earthcore we had to wait in line for 2 hrs. that sucked pretty bad because it was hot and we had run out of booze. after finally making it to the front of the line, we were told that one of tickets we ordered on line did not exist so not all of us could go in. THEY HAD FUCKED UP THE SPELLING OF MY NAME ON THE SHEET BY ONE LETTER SO I WAS NOT ALLOWED IN!!!!!!! after arguing with them for over half an hour, and having one of the dodgy cunts on the gate offer to sell me a ticket for $180 we made our way back to undera. once getting there we found a local who was nice enough to stop his after work drinks and acconpmay us back to his place so we could print off the email with all the tick order info. Thank god for the kindness of some people in this world. so after waiting for another 2 hrs in the line we finally got in!!!!!

Another Bad Note: Spiro you are a useless cunt: where the fuck were GMS and Eskimo. 1200 mics, eskimo, GMS were the main reason I bought a ticket this time and I had been looking forward to seeing thme playing ever since I heard they were booked. It fucking sucked to hear they were not playing only 1 1/2 hours before they were supposed to come on. Instead we had to listen to some whiney wanker crap on for about 10 minutes about why they were not supposed to play. Pull your head out of your arse spiro! for a ticket worth over $100 I hope to get value for money and not miss out on 3 of the top acts.

Final bad point: The Police: the sniffer dogs seemed to be out when I was tripping hard so maybe there were not as many as I thought, but it adds to the paranoia and a general crappy vibe to the event. there seemed to be a greater over all police presence and I notcied them wandering around the camp sites abit.

GOOD POINTS:
The Music: Numinoid/Tsyoshi Suzuki - brilliant as always, saw both sets and they were both mind blowing with the flawless mixing you would expect to see from tsyoshi. it was good to see him getting into it in the last half hour of his set too, as he is normally quite reserved on stage.
1200 mics: even though GMS couldn't make it, raja and the other old dude put on a good show under difficult circumstances. pumping all the way, and its great to see two old guys really enjoying themselves up there.
Siaqua; fucking awesome, loved the dancers too. Mantrix were great also.
John 00 fleming & Nick Sentience: I though they were quite lack lustre and were not really going off much. it was nice to see siaqua upstage the much more experienced nick sentience.
Protoculture: really enjoyed their set on friday, and their set on sunday morning was good too but I was coming down like a tone of bricks.
Hydra stage was by far the best stage at earthcore, always rocking, always packed, I don't know who was playing at 5pm on saturday but I don't think I've ever had so much fun stomping around.

Final good points:
The people - apart from going with some great friends, i met some really cool people. i met the dude in the cowboy hat at mantrix, didn't know you were a bluelighter, we camped next to you last year! also saw the guys in the fezs and swords, loved the outfits!

(edit by leecie: i took out the incriminating stuffs)

I've been looking on the earthcore forum and Spiro has not given anything more than a cryptic ('due to the alignedment of the moon and the stars') reason for why there is to be no more earthcores.

I have to say I am very disappointed. I have been attending these for 5 years and they have always coincided well with when I finish my exams. I look forward to this event every year, and this year was particularly special as I came with a larger group of friends than normal.

I suggest that those who want this party to be continued post your wishes on the earthcore forums or at the every least hassle spiro enough to provide an adequte reason for stopping these parties.

They fucking blew my mind.. anyone see a few elvis's roaming the crowd? I sure did!
Dude - You can't call them lasers.. What about those monster fuck off lasers that use to to go through the trees and touch the tips of heaven!
I agree, the Zeus head lazers of last year that came out of his eyes then moved around, while the lazers at the sound booth drew trippy patterns in the trees off in the distance were awesome, but the GOD lasers tripped my mind hard for a good hour as the dust rose to create an insane tribal vibe.

This was my 3rd EC and I still had a blast. Good friends, good times! There were definitely a few things that got in the way of the party (cops, line-up fuck ups, a few bogans with bad attitudes) but in all it was about pushing through that and focusing on the positives of the weekend which I thought were plentiful.

What a weekend.

lol at the sniffers being there. Ok so maybe I'm use to them (5 friggen years of seeing them at everything) but alot of the people we were camped with definitly weren't so tried helping them out for future reference on how we do it back up in Sydney.

but lol at a person we were camped near that rubbed pot all over their pants and went looking for the dog (they had nothing on them tho) that made my weekend :P

Not sure apart from Michelle adamson and Protoculture who else I actually caught, guess its Rainbow serpent next year :D

Earthcore's official press release

Greetings

Thank you, everyone!!! With much antipation, Earthcore this weekend, exceeded
expectations, proving to be the GREATEST EARHTCORE EVER.

We'd like to thank the staff and crew who spent over 10 months planning this
event to perfection.

A Massive Thank You to all our ardent supporters who came to Earthcore. After
all it is YOU guys that made this gig the GREATEST EARTHCORE EVER.

We would like to emphasise on the fact that everyone who came, partied
responsibly. There were absolutely no trips made by the ambulance.

Oh! and might we add a huge Fuck you to GMS and Eskimo who decided NOT to turn
up to our event after having their flights issued and deposits paid. Their
notorious reputation for not turning up at festivals across the globe has been
cemented in our eyes and hopefully yours. No lame excuses or lies will change
our opinion of them.

We assure you this no show from both of them was not our intention. Rumours to
the contrary are as pathetic and delusional as the 'acts' disrespect to you and
to us. They were both meant to arrive on Saturday and did not show. Raja Ram
and Chicago are as equally disappointed.

In fact we have a juicy replacement lined up for Earthcore Qld happening this
Friday. So all is not lost for everyone heading up there.

Once again big thanks for last weekend and bring on Earthcore Queensland

For those of you in Victoria there's three after parties to choose from.

Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!

heh if that is the case, guess it's karma for the time Spiro dobbed in other promoters for psy artists flying in under tourist visas instead of working ones a few years ago.. Such is life..

Wite more later, but I can never sleep while a red bus is glowing. It just didn't stop!! A very small minority of people left on Sunday, and the party rocked well into Monday. I recqall antics with ape-like primate battle on the dancefloor while elvis impersonator wiggled idly by, I ate watermelon and it was sweet.

Hmmm, I had a great weekend, but most of it had to do with the people I hung out with rather than the festival itself.

Most people have already covered the bad points, but here's my quick rundown too...

:X - Spiro.

:( - No Eskimo, GMS, 1200 Mics. No directions on the roads - we got lost coming in and going out. No camping in the trees. Toilets not set up on arrival. Toilets/showers packed up before everyone had left. 333 area shit (didn't concern me, but had a few people in our camp who were impacted). General layout of the stages/market area just didn't have any continuity. Placement of the Red Bus stage next to the toilets. Dogs. Lack of lighting/decor.

:) - My friends
24.gif
. The dude at the badge/hat/other random items market stall. River times. Running round dressed in a fez and sword. Uber shade structures made by our camp. Siaqua's enthusiasm. Swimming in the river. Space Tribe. Red Bus decor. Trippy Tacos.

=D - Fatali. I want to have his babies.

^^^ I can attest to this being 100% true

heh, I guess it could've been the GREAT EARHTCORE EVER but from it definitely wasn't the GREATEST EARTHCORE EVER ;)

Simultaneously brilliant and terrible event.
In no particular order here's my thoughts:

:) Setting up different floors with different genres was a stroke of genius. Everyone got to enjoy what they like without being crushed to death

:) Completely loved the main floor music. First time EVER I have hung out on the main floor in the (normally) dumb bang bang hours of 1.00 till 4.00. Xavier Morel played a brilliant set, seamless gorgeous psytrance. It was like one long piece of music rather than a series of songs glues together. Tsyuoshi, well what can I say - professional and funny as always :-). Phoney Orphants, Jeppe, Nick sentience, Bubble and Squeak all brilliant.

:) Lasers - who needs lasers?? Hugh Mcspedeen (humania) did projections to die for on the main floor. Fantastic!

:X Organisation?? Where? I baked my ass off on Saturday from 8.00am on the main floor trying to get power to set up shelter for the workshops. Umpteen people volunteered their time to provide workshops only to have no shelter from the sun due to a complete cock up with the generator. No power on the main floor until 2.00pm.

:\ Well done to the tech crew on the main floor who managed to pull one out of the bag and get everything running for the main floor on time at 3.30 despite only having power from 2.00. They weren't very happy campers I can tell you.

:X Did anyone at Earthcore HQ actually read the weather report? Main floor Hydra floor and the hideous beer zone with no shade in 30+ sun!!!!!!! Hello!!!

The music was great, the people were great, but the organisers seem to have forgotten that the punter is the reason the whole thing is on. How about a bit of thought for the people who are forking out the money for tickets. How about some shade, some effort with decorations, some respect for the volunteers etc etc etc.

nuff grumbling

lamest Earthcore in years, esp. in comparison to the best ever one last year. WTF? where did our money go?

granted, the dogs were lovely, the cops friendly, the weather epic, Michele Adamson with short-shorts and no undies in the heat ;-) Raja goaty as always, but, um, what of the show? where were the FREAKS?

should have known betters and followed intuition which said last year's was as good as it was ever going to get.

cheers for trying anyhow.

Was this your first earthcore? As it's been different genre stages since about 2002 I think. Once it moved from Mt Disappointment, it really branched out with different styles. Like Hard Trance floor etc. Nothing wrong with having different genres but to me I remember looking back and thinking "This is fucked, it's just a nightclub in the bush" as in people were driving up 1-2+ hrs to the site, dancing for 1-3 days with no sleep and then just driving home. The amount of cars I saw with no camp sites and talking to twits in 2004 who were boasting "Man, I love driving home scat, it's fun" turned me off E/C. That said, a lot of good names still play only there which sucks (Fatali!!!!!!) but that's life. Can't win them all

Running round dressed in a fez and sword.
So that was you! Loved your golden cape! I gotta be a bit more forward next time and just come up and talk to people I think look really insane. I just hate the "wow you look trippy" conversations.. so over them.

And yeah, how much fun was puting up uber shades! We eventually named our caravan/tarp/tree set-up the "insane maniac drug cave" twas very messy by sunday arvo ;)

From GMSs MYSPACE

GMS and Earthcore 2006 - get the story straight earthcore!!!

on behalf of riktam and bansi aka GMS.....

the stories of GMS not completly arriving at earthcore at this past event is not true....

GMS arriving back from tour in mexico and both with a traveling flu and had made a decision that only Bansi would go and Ritkam would stay and try to get better for their next big tour...

so,m bansi flies off to australia....

Bansi arrived in the early evening on saturday in australia and was sitting at the airport for 2 and half hours waiting for someone to pick him up.. after waiting for a long time and no one from EARTHCORE shows up, bansi decides to go check into a hotel and get transportation to the party himself.

bansi arrives at the party and greets SPIRO from EARTHCORE and is told he is not welcome at the party and went and got 2 security people to escort Bansi out of the party....

We believe Spiro kicked bansi out of the party to cover up his story of GMS not showing up... we find that very rude on the part of EARTHCORE..

making malicious lies, then covering them up with some muscle...

on other notes about earthcore on past events with GMS..

Earthcore left ritkam on his birthday 3 or 4 years ago with no tranport to or from the party and without any help from the organizers...

if earthcore wants to bash the artists with words to all the fans and people, they must be clear on what really happens and not distort the truth to make themselves look good...

I'm way more inclined to belive the GMS story after some of the spiro antics that have been pulled this and other times.

Die spiro. I'll never support another one of your events.

PS. You take the cock. -- Cosigned Ozfaker.

[[note: The above opinion is soley of the individual, isn't trademarked and it's price comparative, if you don't like it i'll trade it for one of yours]]

The crew I was with made it all worthwhile! You guys seriously rocked my weekend. At times I was probably spurting more gibberish than sense, and tripping over guide wires and spilling bong water on the floor...but yeah, great fun.
