Open Discussion [MEGA] Mobile version of Bluelight?

That really depends. I plan to render in an almost "frames-like" method since forums can be dumped into an almost csv/spreadsheet value.

Backstory.. I'm resurrected a project idea I started a year or so ago when I snaked and reregistered tarisspeed.conforums.com to bring an old forum back to life. If you dont know the history of tarisspeed, look it up. Digg might have something. The forum host wouldnt restore the original owner's content so now I own it and it just lies there.

I mostly just wanted to keep it alive, and thought it would be cool to have a platform independant forum app that did exactly what I described above. It could in theory, be applied to any forum once setup...almost like an IRC server where you just select the appropriate source and the client does the rest of the work.

Its really no more complicated than that. Then yes, skins, and all that could be added at will. I think it's a pretty neat idea personally

To better answer your question:

Raw would be easier and more efficient by FAR, but parsing would make the end result more universally accepted by platforms.

Pardon, I meant IRC Client/Gui

Bluelight iPad app

A bluelight app on the iPad would sure bring more traffic to this website and help make the website more accessible to those with iPads. I don't know if this is the right forum to post this in but I would be willing to devote my time and expertise in doing this with a little help from other bluelighters. Let me know what you guys think.

IMHO, a mobile bluelight site would be of much more value. Then people would be able to comfortably read the forum via cellphones and iTouches.

Edit: I mean lets be honest the ipad has a big enough screen to just come to this site and be able to read it perfectly fine.

^That was my fault, I moved the thread over from another forum but then forgot to merge lol thanks for the reminder! :)

Bluelight App for iPhone and Blackberry

Is there one? There should be. Even some website "Grass City" (I'm not a member but I feel like from what I've seen Bluelight is far superior) has one. I'd probably be on my phone a lot more if they made one. I know you can browse on mobile, but it's not as functional as an app could be. Sorry, probably not the most interesting thread, I'm just curious.

FTR, I was looking at some of our traffic stats, and in 2010 we had about 11% of our visitors coming in off mobile. For 2011 that has nearly doubled. Mobile is the future, and we do intend to support it better than we do today. To know when or how....read this thread ;)

Are those stats based on the user's browser or the service provider?

If it's the latter, do those stats distinguish between people who are using a mobile phone to download and view, and people who are using a mobile dongle to download but view on their home PC?

Point being that mobile broadband can be used by people for their home connection (perhaps when adsl/cable is unavailable or of poor quality).

Newer versions of vBulletin have mobile compatibility built in, so once the site upgrades are under way I imagine we'll be seeing some nice mobile access options.

I can get on Bluelight via my android no problem; there's just no need for a Bluelight app. I don't think there is anyways. I just added a shortcut to the Bluelight home page, and it works just as easily as I could imagine it to be. :)

^all the features work via Safari on iPhone/iPad as well. The difference between a page natively designed for mobile devices versus just using the full size page is mostly convenience. I know for me theres a lot of zooming and scrolling around to get and use all the features and the mobile features in the upcoming vBulletin upgrades can give people that option.

I gotcha. Resizing doesn't seem to be bothersome to me with my android (I have the droid 2 global), and scrolling is never problematic, as I can flick it two or three times and it'll scroll extremely quickly to the top/bottom (depending on the way I'm doing it).

I look forward to an updated version for even easier usage but for me, I am very happy with how Bluelight functions on my droid. %)

I Spend Hours on BL Using My Mobile

Hmm, this looks like a pretty old thread, but here goes... First, well, we won't go into why I'm not on the computer, but I have no idea what you mean by mobile 'skin'. If this is BL mobile, somebody's keeping it a secret, because, don't they usually tell you that? I have a crappy, Cricket un-droid phone with free web (US friends: ''Cricket. You get what you pay for...'') and it works the site pretty well within the limits of my slow-learner technical abilities. All my posts are run-ons due to having exactly zero formatting tools. Also, the device freezes at whim, necessitating battery removal and replacement and having a do-over. This's probably a good thing, as I've lost some posts that, in retrospect, were pretty moronic. Pesky quirks incl. multiple stranger-danger-you're-not-logged-in log in commands (square this # if posting) sprinkled with crabby 'not sufficient memory for this operation' notices - all lies since I can always carry on after clicking OK. Having said that, I heart my mobile BL!

A skin is a way of viewing, accessing and otherwise presenting the information from the site's databases. A mobile skin is generally less graphic (or at least was back in the day) and is designed with small screen ergonomics in mind.

If what is BL mobile? You can select different skins at the bottom left corner menu where it says which skin you are using. Try the mobile one and see if you prefer it. It is quite lite weight from my little time trying it out. This link should do it it as well. http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/home.php?styleid=14

I've been having problems with bluelight mobile. The phone I use is a shitty net10 phone with mobile browsing. Tzits not a fancy Smartphone or anything. The screen is maybe a oil over an inch or so. Anyways when bl loads on the phone (non-mobile) it takes forever to load. Now when I use the mobile bl, it will load the home page normally, but.. it will freeze and not load forums and threads. Also I notice I have like a 5minute window to post in the normal pagesetting when replying to a thread b4 the page timeout..is there something I can do to fix it, thx

You need to log in with "remember me" checked. BL will then send your device a cookie it can use to sign on and stay signed in without timing out. How your phone's browser handles this I don't know. Same for the rest of the questions unfortunately. Get a new phone? ;)

u think i should load bluelight mobile, or normal setting. normal setting takes a while because it loads literally everything on the bluelights home page. You think it wouldn't matter my phone is retarded like that.
i really thought cellphone towers hated me because i have a pay-as-u-go phone. my service uses like ghetto satellites, and some rednecks attached a receiver to the top of his barn. forreals

my last post was done by my moms android phone, which it didn't understand my dialect lol. new phone would be nice man, like a droid or something non-apple.(they make good shit, but the iphone really has no insurance, less u go through apple directly).
this crappy phone of mine has got to do. :]

Hey guys,

Sorry for the shitty mobile skin we currently have. That said, it's not AS bad is it could be and we're kind of lucky to have even that. I'm excited, and also slightly overwhelmed by the number of threads that have been merged into this one since I last saw it.

To me it states quite loudly that investigating our mobile options needs to be a priority after any normal system maintenance and housekeeping.

Depending on how soon we can get upgrades happening, new mobile skins for vB4 are almost certainly one of the most logical options. Tapatalk is another one that doesn't sound like a lot of effort but would really make a lot of reader's lives happy.

In one sentence: it's definitely on the cards. :)

Yeah. Dude, you really need to get out more ;) <3

Seriously, I use mobile quite a lot (BL is blocked at work, but they can't block my mobile on wireless!). It works OK, but could definitely be better. Will be interesting to see what you guys can come up with.

personally I like the vBulletin layout on my iphone so if there is a mobile version give us an option to choose! :D

just sometimes it takes forever to load, or doesn't load and has to be refreshed many times. only happens on the phone not the computer, and I do use my wifi which isnt slow.
