I have 3 cats and 2 dogs. The cats, especially, keep me busy. They're always throwing up on something. I also clip their laws regularly, so that I can play with them, and not have marks all over my hands and arms. I'm watching Animal Hoarders and I can't imagine a house with 30-60 cats. Three is already too much!
 
I couldn't find the SO cat thread! lol so I guess this works.

So I feed my ~2 yr old orange tabby wet food every other day (along with keeping his dry food full), I get the regular kind from teh pet store, he is a picky little thing and won't eat it unless its the kind that's like chunks of meat in gravy. Lately he just licks up all the gravy and leaves the chunks! (I'll admit, they do look pretty fake/nasty, and I wouldnt want to eat them either!) Unfortunately the little guy won't eat plain cooked chicken, beef, eggs, cheese, etc (like real human food). I've tried giving it to him in his bowl and he leaves it there til its dry and gross.

Anyone know of a good homemade wet cat food recipe, preferably with gravy? I feel bad wasting money on this crappy stuff from Petco that I end up throwing in the trash every time. I'd love to make my own. Even though he's picky he will eat pretty much any dry food. He loves that stuff. Maybe its just the kind of meats I've tried feeding him. It seems logical that cats aren't interested in the stuff that is tasty to humans. He hunts birds and mice, but I've never seen him eat his kill. I have been keeping him inside more so he doesn't keep killing stuff he's not gonna eat.
 
He eats any dry food so leave him with that. Did the vet say he needs wet too? Cats don't NEED wet and dry food. You are LUCKY that your cat eats ANY dry food :) If you want a quality dry, then I suggest Wellness Core or Merrick Before Grain (grain free). Cats don't need grains plus it will help keep their weight down with a straight dry diet.
 
Have you tried canned tuna? Just break it up well with a fork and pour the tuna water over it. My one cat is rather picky as well but goes for that every time.
 
thanks for the advice guys. Ive tried giving him canned tuna and he won't eat it! I thought you should give them wet AND dry food, hm. I guess I'll just keep him on the dry then.
 
Just lost my best friend, cold blooded baby girl....at 8 foot, 30lbs is a pretty big snake, but she passed in my arms after being frozen...my son accidently left the window open over her tank....Christmas morning she was found all curled up and cold as hell. I've known of snakes, even Baby's size, that would come out of the cold and be fine...so I layed with her for two days hoping, pleading to the gods, and making deals with the devil. But death claimed her...i'll never be the same. Baby and I have been through so much together....and now she is in a large tub in the trunk of my car until the ground gets warm enough to bury her!

I had a dog that was very sweet, but also had a dr jekyl mr hyde personality. She had a domination thing that the best trainers couldn't break, and was extremely aggressive to other dogs. I got kicked out of my apartment recently and she kept trying to fight my parents' (bigger) dog, eventually (severely) injuring both his legs. I took the dog to the pound (where I got her 5 years ago), and I've just been feeling really shitty since, constantly popping norco 10's to numb the feelings of regret and despair. I feel awful because I'm almost certain they put her down right away. They asked about the scratches on her face (from parents' dog restraining her after she bit his legs), and I explained. I signed a paper I didn't look at much but I saw the words "waiver" and "euthanasia" and I really had to hold back tears.

I guess my point is... Did I do the right thing? I'm really struggling with this. I found this thread on a google search and asked a mod to open it for me as it was in the archive.
 
I have had many dogs and gone thru much loss with my dogs each dog has its own personality and you fall in love with each one seperatly. currently my loves are jonie- half pitbull and the sweetest dog i have ever seen. ann who is a treeing walker coonhound and is a very loyal and intelligent dog. she will hunt anything you want and will go anywhere in the world with you. and of her seven puppies that i sold i kept Bo..also a treeing walker coonhound. he is the first puppy ive helped raise since birth and he goes everywhere with me and is the smartest puppy i have ever had. at three months he could sit shake laydown rollover and speak. i love my doggies so much!

got attacked twice by my neighboors dog and several times by mine or should I say my parents dog.

My parens used a sort of ultra sound device to keep the dog away.(humans cant hear it but dogs apparently do and its very loud for them)..so you might want to use it , but hey what can a stupid dog do when its lying around on the table? EAT IT ... I really hate dogs , theyr utter bullshit.

That's a terrible attitude to have towards dogs. Dogs are awesome. Like bank accounts, you get out of them what you put into them. If they're loved from the beginning, chances are they're going to be loving in return. If you hate them and wish them dead, as you apparently do, expect to be barked at and bitten. Chances are you won't even see this, (who bumps a 7 year old thread anyway?) but I had to get that off my chest after seeing your hateful post. Who even started this thread to begin with? DarthMom's comment is obviously a reply to the thread's originator.

our puppy got into a box of chocolates, is this seriously harmful?

today while my s/o and i were outdoors gardening we noticed the rear glass door was ajar and immediately knew it would have been our shihtzu puppy sneaking inside. upon inspecting the house my s/o found our dog in the living room hiding beside the coffee table with a gift box of ferrero rocher chocolates and had devoured what we believe to be 7-8 of the candies (after counting the wrappers)? we put him outdoors and he immediately ran to his water dish and drank alot of water to then roll on the grass as though he was uncomfortable. knowing that chocolate is toxic to dogs and that those particular chocolates have a high nut content, am wondering will he be safe? if he shows signs of being super uncomfortable or in stress we will take him to his vet for treatment; but am wondering if any bluelighters have been in similar circumstances with their pets and what the outcome has been? or if theres anything natural we can give him to ail him?

I think that keeping an eye on him should be fine. Rochers don't actually have that much chocolate in them, and the dose at which chocolate becomes harmful to dogs is quite high. Things like Baker's or other dark chocolates are much more of a risk - especially to little dogs. He'll almost certainly be fine.
 
One of my teachers from the past had a dog that ate two or so times the lethal limit of dark chocolate, and some how her dog still lived.

Chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats, especially dark chocolate. I believe the active ingredients in it (mild stimulants) are specifically harmful to the dogs/cats, hence why you shouldn't let your pets have chocolate.

I hope your dog is doing OK, I know how precious a pet can be. <3
 
thanks for your comments and the link <3 it's been 24 hours since this happened and our puppy is wonderful. hes running around as he normally would and is happy, playful and eating his food without any issues.

Just FYI on this thread, it's typically only dangerous for dark chocolate. I gave my dog a mg of Xanax after finding she had eaten a whole bar of dark chocolate. Her heart started pounding and she got hyper, then the Xanax kicked in and she kind of relaxed, but wouldn't go to sleep. I firmly believe had I not given her half a bar wrapped in cheese, she would have died. But ultimately the Xanax counteracted the stimulant effect of the chocolate enough she was ok. Xanax is safe in dogs, and they have higher tolerance mg/kg than humans.

She was fine the next day, and months after until I had to have her put down because she was aggressive to other dogs and nearly killed my parents' dog when I lost my apartment and had to move in with them :(:(

Just FYI anyone who searches "dog eats dark chocolate", consider Xanax if you have it and dose accordingly.

The typical Xanax dosage for dogs is 0.01 to 0.05 mg per pound
