Aye, I see your point Bear. It's just that it's much easier to die of mushroom poisoning than it is of alcohol poisoning.
It takes a lot of booze to kill somebody, but just one mushroom can potentially be deadly.
A heavy session takes all day / night and the chances are you'll be incapacitated well before the lethal poisoning stage. It takes some work and the clear intent to get horribly pissed, whereas accidentally picking a dodgy mushroom is frighteningly easy.
I'm not saying drinking's safer, I'm just saying that it's easier to misidentify a mushroom than it is to chug enough vodka to be seriously in danger.

Oh gods.. it sounds like it's going to be a bad year for the mushroom groups on Facebook. "Hey, I found this in my garden, can I eat it?" 8)On radio 2 there was a large segment about foraging, obviously no chat about the swirly variety. As i was listening to this guy hype the whole forage for your dinner i was thinking this is bound to end with more people ill/dead. He did emphasise the dangers.... but, people are daft, y'know...
Im not sure what species of fungi you were consuming but liberty caps dont grow in your local park my friend.
