MA Heroin V We Overdraft Our Shit 2

The only detox I've ever been to in Mass was in Fall River, called SSTAR, they have a few in RI by the same name and they're free without insurance...Its 30 to 40 mgs methadone with a taper, comfort meds etc. That particular one is really good with meds..Any taper will slow the process down, but if you have the will to stay clean, I think the methadone taper is the best one. At day 10, you're pretty much done.

A lot of detoxes these days use bupe, even refer you to a maintenance doctor. Nothing feels worse than kicking a dope habit and being hooked again a week later. Especially if you don't have the money to keep doing it.

I somehow always end up meeting people in detox that talk me into leaving and getting high. The best thing to do is go straight to rehab from detox, but state run rehab is not a fun experience either. Heroin will definitely put u on the fringes of society.

^^

Hah, yeah man I've met a bunch of people in the past that I ended up leaving detox with to get high too.

That's why you really just gatta keep your head down and focus on yourself when you're there if you're serious about getting clean. Making friends with other people like that usually either leads to you both leaving to get high, or meeting up after detox and exchanging connects/getting high.

^^ this is why them putting me in a psych ward was the best thing to happen to me; many times I've been to detox for a day or two and I'd bounce and go on a sick run. being in a psych ward I saw people w/ problems others than drugs and it kinda woke me up a bit. not sure how YOU would get in the psych ward but I know they took my last OD as an attempted murder because when I woke up I said I wish I was dead (totally not serious; just saying that cuz the parents were giving me shit). bad timing, I guess, ha.

Yeah man. Downside of going to rehab/detox in NY. No smoking most of the time.

Yeah, they're Nazis in NY about smoking....but they're phasing it out everywhere. A lot of them still take you outside to smoke every few hours...but some of them are so douche they actually think they're gonna make you stop smoking at the same time!

It's so beyond ridiculious and should be counterintuitive to any addiction professionals knowledge, to make people quit smoking at the same time as their DOC.

So fucking dumb.

^Yeah it really baffles me as to why they would care so much about not allowing smoking. You are there for a much more life crippling addiction, why make it harder to deal with that by taking away maybe the one solace a person has left.

It does seem more and more and eliminating smoking from their facilities. The few that do are like BH said, they walk everyone outside every couple hours for a smoke if they want to go. The only 2 I can think of off the top of my head that definitely allow it (unless the changed in quite recently) are Andrew House in Quincy, down on Long Island where you need to drive down this long causeway to get there. That place is sketchy though, the rest of the complex is criminal psych ward and the people in the detox are often a lot of crazy bastards from Dorchester and Roxbury. The other place is Baldpate Hospital in Georgetown. It seems like a good place, pretty chill. There is nothing around it for a good distance. I am not 100% they allow smoking still, but I am lets say 95% sure they still do. Another place I am not sure about is in Brookline called Bournewood, they still allow smoking...I think.

i NEVER smoked a cig in my life; but yet smoked crack, weed, whatever.. but not ONE cig. anytime in a detox everyone always thought it was weird that I would stay IN rather than go OUT w/ the rest and smoke. fuck that .last thing I want is to sit in the smoke and just smell like shit.

I've been to detoxes/rehabs in CT that allow smoking. NY will give you a patch or some fucking gum.. most people just sneak cigs in and smoke in the bathroom though. Hah. But it's ridiculous that they have to do that. Like you said, it's an incredibly stressful and trying time getting clean, and you're going to make it 10x worse by not allowing them to smoke?

^I don't think I have seen anyone from south shore on here. From the cape and RI area there are a few here, though. You live in Sweden now, how is that?

Really not once smoked a cigarrette? I don't smoke them either, they make me throw up. They really do taste awful. When I was way younger I smoked some thinking it was cool and then I did a few times drinking later at parties when I was still younger and it'd make me real nauseous and puke. I'll use other methods of tobacco like dip or the new snus stuff. I've tried the new E cigs recently and they don't make me nauseous like smoking a real cig, so I assume the nicotine in each puff is far less. I think I am pretty sensitive to nicotine, or I just don't like the effects much.

I was in a detox/rehab upstate that allowed it years ago. So once a week they would let one of the patients do a cig run for everybody, so people would give him their money and tell him what they wanted, then one of the workers drove him to the store. You can imagine how that turned out though. "I gave you money for 3 packs, not two!" I actually lucked out because there happened to be a buy 2 get 1 free promotion on my brand, so I was set for the rest of my time there. And you know that if it wasn't the middle of the winter and if we weren't 2 hours from the city dude probably would have bounced with the cash and never came back, ha.

But anyway, a few guys got kicked out for fighting over the cigarette run since one guy said the other guy ripped him off. We tried to keep the fight on the DL since it was in the dudes room and not on the main floor, plus dude would go back to jail for violating parole if he didn't complete the program, but the powers that be caught wind of it from the cameras so that was that.

^ it didn't help that dude came back from the cig run with candy bars falling out of his pants, so some people were bitter about it since he got candy and others didn't. Rehab is like 6th grade all over again with all the childish drama, but instead of hormones/puberty fueling the drama it's withdrawals and having to feel again that's driving it.

^Ha, "the cameras"...When I was in rehab a few years ago, these two kids wheeled a laundry cart in front of my door as a joke...It was stupid, but it wasn't a big deal, I just opened my door and there was laundry in front of it! Hahaha! The rehab police found out about it and questioned all of us! They actually had print outs from the video cameras of the whole thing going down! they even made little arrows going from our heads with our names above them! It was like kangaroo court!

Anyway, they kicked this one kid out just for playing a practical joke on me! Even though, I told them it was "just a joke/no big deal!"....

They were all like, "Recovery is serious business! This is not the place to joke around!"....I felt so bad for the kid...I hated the rehab after that! what assholes! I was like, "You actually put on a tie on everyday...and make a living watching video tapes of drug addicts goofing off at 11pm?!" fuckin assholes! Rehab can suck...people are just trying to break up the dullness however they can! this rehab was like that though....kicking people out for the dumbest shit everyday! I have no respect for anyone as uptight as these people....I don't give a fuck where they got their "degree" from!

LMAO at the rehab stories....there's always drama in detox!! I remember last time I was @ Providence Hospital I was there for the 6 day stretch and in those few days patients were kicked out for fighting, a few flipped out(think they were comin off benzos or something) and got shipped downstairs to the 5th floor (psych ward) smokin in the bathrooms (they had smoke breaks then don't know if the have them now) one guy in a group meeting threw a chair at the counselor don't remember why but it was funny as hell. Think after a few days locked in the junkies start throwing tantrums...I was always just cruising and relaxing as long as the done was just right, stuffing my face and sleepin when u can cause of all the meetings they have.

^ legit kid. grew up in a small house in East Boston and my whole family would sit around a 6 person table that took up the whole kitchen and they would smoke as I sit in the center of the table with people giggling and making jokes w/ me there. I will always remember growing up and hating that. funny tho, cuz I also knew that my 2 uncles were basically running a crack-house upstairs but that never scared me away from drugs.. why?

^Thats is funny stuff. Probably the one's flipping out were coming off benzos, people really become psychotic coming off a heavy benzo habit.

We had a chronic food stealer the last time I was in detox.. Hah. It was this crack head chic in the women's unit, who would constantly sneak into our kitchen and pilfer our sandwiches, cereal, everything. They finally caught her with old fucking cold dinners and turkey sandwiches under her pillow, in the mattress, the shower, all over her fucking room.

also loved it when the "chain reaction" starts, when one patient was leaving cause his time was up or maybe was getting his SSI check and then they invite someone to go with them...then the "chain reaction" starts; another one wants to leave, then another before u know it there's 5 or 6 ppl hounding their counselors to get checked out!! Made me laugh...what's the fuckin point of going into detox if some schmo you probably just met in there probably there for the three hots & a cot or for R&R while you're there to attempt to get right with yourself tempts you with the awesome connect he has or getting paid...that's why when I usually called detoxes on the first of the month or the day before cause I could always score a bed, haha
