One big issue a lot of addicts have about detox/rehab facilities is if smoking is allowed.
Yeah man. Downside of going to rehab/detox in NY. No smoking most of the time.

Yeah, they're Nazis in NY about smoking....but they're phasing it out everywhere. A lot of them still take you outside to smoke every few hours...but some of them are so douche they actually think they're gonna make you stop smoking at the same time!
^Yeah it really baffles me as to why they would care so much about not allowing smoking. You are there for a much more life crippling addiction, why make it harder to deal with that by taking away maybe the one solace a person has left.
It does seem more and more and eliminating smoking from their facilities. The few that do are like BH said, they walk everyone outside every couple hours for a smoke if they want to go. The only 2 I can think of off the top of my head that definitely allow it (unless the changed in quite recently) are Andrew House in Quincy, down on Long Island where you need to drive down this long causeway to get there. That place is sketchy though, the rest of the complex is criminal psych ward and the people in the detox are often a lot of crazy bastards from Dorchester and Roxbury. The other place is Baldpate Hospital in Georgetown. It seems like a good place, pretty chill. There is nothing around it for a good distance. I am not 100% they allow smoking still, but I am lets say 95% sure they still do. Another place I am not sure about is in Brookline called Bournewood, they still allow smoking...I think.
i NEVER smoked a cig in my life; but yet smoked crack, weed, whatever.. but not ONE cig. anytime in a detox everyone always thought it was weird that I would stay IN rather than go OUT w/ the rest and smoke. fuck that .last thing I want is to sit in the smoke and just smell like shit.

Really not once smoked a cigarrette? I don't smoke them either, they make me throw up. They really do taste awful. When I was way younger I smoked some thinking it was cool and then I did a few times drinking later at parties when I was still younger and it'd make me real nauseous and puke. I'll use other methods of tobacco like dip or the new snus stuff. I've tried the new E cigs recently and they don't make me nauseous like smoking a real cig, so I assume the nicotine in each puff is far less. I think I am pretty sensitive to nicotine, or I just don't like the effects much.
