Lyrica is definately an intriguing substance...I've posted my experience with Lyrica, though I left out the fact that I had been prescribed it in the past. When it first came out, I was prescribed it (I forget the dose) and downed 600 mg, without the consent of my psychiatrist. It knocked me out, and I believe I awoke roughly six hours later. I could definately feel the difference...it was not unlike an NMDA antagonist (I'm an ex-DXM junkie), and interestingly enough Lyrica causes a significant reduction in the rate at which glutamate is released. As I attempted to walk down the hall, from my bedroom to the staircase, the corridor seemed to extend. The space between the walls on either side of me seemed to widen, and the ceiling appeared to stretch upward. That was the only time I reacted in this way...taken as prescribed, it was very mild and produced a slight reduction in anxiety. A good adjunct to the 2 mg of Xanax I was taking at the time. By the way, I'm pretty sure that I took 2400 mg one time (I had read that some patients took up to 2400 in clinical studies). I really didn't notice anything...it was odd. I'm thinking this is one of those drugs where more isn't necessarily better...it may be beneficial to up the dose to 1200 mg or so, but after that it's quite possible you've exceeded the therapeutic window. Perhaps the bioavailability of the drug decreases at excessive doses, as is the case with Neurontin. I know the literature claims that's not the case, but it's possible they were referring to doses within the range used in clinical studies?
