Liver health - *Mega-merged*

I usually only hear about permanent damage being done by alcoholism (fun fact: W.S. Burroughs son was the first to get a liver transplant due to drinking too much liqqy in USA)

and plus the liver repairs itself over time if damage has been done in the past, and i think if your liver is becoming a problem you will start noticing the symptoms? im no liver expert though

If you are really worried, ask your doctor for a liver function test, they will be able to tell you the general health of your liver...

try and avoid too much alcohol or APAP tho, but go to your doctor if you are concerned :).

Haha, sorry to be so misleading Slim. Anyway, I know this has been answered countless times but I figured I'd try and get some feedback. Just concerned about all of the vitamins/some pharms I have been taking.

Cheers

Ebola - Excellent point. I should have been more descriptive.

This is what I take:

Fish Oil
CoQ10
Milk Thistle
Piracetam
Choline
Dexedrine 10MG's once or twice a day but take regular breaks
Klonpin .5-1 mg a few times a week

That is the extent of my regimen. Sometimes I will deviate and drink along with these things, but I try not to. Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Let me add a little, cause I appreciate my liver - it remembers hard times)) Twice a year during 2-3 weeks I take Ademetionine (so called Heptral). It's in tablets or injections (higher bioavailability). And, with the same frequency and duration, one ayurvedic hepatoprotector - Liv.52 or Livamap.
I do that for the third year in a row, and my analysis get much better, though I live life far from healthy yet)
Anytime, If you have intermittent pain in the liver area, it's a warning to get a medical check-up.

Wikipedia said:
Paracetamol hepatotoxicity is, by far, the most common cause of acute liver failure in both the United States and the United Kingdom.[10][42] Paracetamol overdose results in more calls to poison control centers in the US than overdose of any other pharmacological substance

Gotta take care of that liver

apparently beetroot is good for livers. bit of random info

for some reason i find milk thistle can make me feel goggy and sometimes unwell, is this due to it flushing my system or something?

To my knowledge, none of these supplements carry a high hepatic load, nor does clonazepam. Dexedrine can at high doses, but you're keeping the doses reasonable. You're fine.

ebola

milk thistle protects the liver

I know alcohol and acetamenophin (tylenol srry bout the spelling) are probably the worst

Also heard that meth is pretty bad on it.....

Extreme doses + chronic malnutrition and dehydration are what is rough. 10 mg / Dexosyn / day probably wouldn't be that harsh.

Simple question (liver problems and ibuprofen?)

I'm recovering from some very bad liver problems, and I've already quit drinking and I know I can't take any acetaminophen, but what about ibuprofen? Am I taking a risk? I've been having headaches lately but I've been avoiding ibuprofen, just in case. If I take any, will it somehow make things worse or slow down my recovery?

Yeah, you can buy a liver detox kit, but honestly, your body does it as good.
I've never been convinced on the whole 'detoxing' idea. Your body is designed to rid yourself of toxins - it does it every day in the form of your excrement and sweat. Detox kits, smoothies, pills etc are futile money-making exercises.

Eat well, exercise, sweat, poop and pee. Your body will do the rest. You don't need to do anything else!

yes ^ but it's always good to get a lil herbal help - a detox kit or pills are yes a money making scheme a lot of the time.
google these: milk thistle, dandelion, green tea, alpha lipoic acid, n-acetyl cysteine..etc etc etc

To my knowledge - the first 3 - YES.
(for booze detox I take it)
I would also suggest drinking LOTS of fresh carrot juice, and water, water water...and some more carrot juice and water.

If it is booze, then replace that with sweet tastes, sweet sounds, just sweetness - and you'll be fine soon.

I guess I can say it's almost like medications - most of the time, medications are unnecessary but for those *really* off the chain, the medications can help them stay with us.

Same thing with the detox systems. Most of the time they aren't necessary, but I'm sure someone might need an extra hand.

Personally I drink a lot of water, fresh carrot juice!
When I was in hosptal in Thailand following an accident and a particularly heavy few months of benzo and mekong Whisky abuse I was given Milk Thistle along with detox meds!
