Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. We're all overqualified!

This Jobseekers allowance is so fkn annoying and pointless I might as well go look for a job myself and stop wasting my time with this.

I had an appt today and they've told me they won't pay me this week and made me fill in a form because I haven't written down what I did to look for work etc, basically haven't logged anything down in that booklet of theirs for this past week.
I understand, my mistake... whatever.

So I fill in the form with legitimate information (I looked online over the last couple days for jobs and couldn't find anything suitable), as well as some fabricated info (sent out emails got no response etc), and after filling it out, half an hour later she tells me she got to send it off to get it checked whether it's acceptable or not.
How many fucking jobs do you want me to write down then?
So now I got to wait "a couple weeks", for confirmation on whether I can keep my claim or not.
I'm broke right now I'd love to know how they expect me to get there next week when I haven't even got bus money. It's been like a month since my claim started and I've only been paid once so tbh they are being complete cunts.

If you don't want me and my claim just tell me to fuck off and stop wasting time with these forms and fill-outs and booklets and universal job match shit. I don't need their help to find work I just wanna get paid. Isn't that what everyone is there for?

I can't tell whether I'm in the wrong or if it's them but either way I don't care at this point.
At least I'm getting free meds and dental treatment for the time being.

Every fucking one of them (not kidding).
It's been a while since I've been out of work but it was under the current Con-Dem regime and when I started the claim I said I'll only be in for appointments since I can see your job database in the internet. Soon after she started cross-referencing my diary with what was on her database and what I'd written and started pointing out the ones that I missed. Even if it's flipping burgers for McDonald's they expect you to apply for it, thankfully they can't prove/disprove if you have. An old conversation:

Jobcentre Cow: So out of all those jobs you applied for you're telling me not one has got back to you Mr Themoon?

Me: Yes.

^ classic, scroll up or go back to where I mentioned the guy who looked like he was tweaking out and signed everything off as 'yes'.
I don't think he even looked up at me once, need more people like that working there.

BUMP!!!!

Thought I'd bump this for you, Sammy G (and anyone else who may wish or need to discuss jobs.)

I don't know what's happened n won't prod you as it's none of my business.

However , if you're seeking about job / career / line of career or what-not, you've one thing going for you. Working 10 years at the same company shows dedication and commitment. You don't see it often this day n age as we're in a recession n so forth. But most companies want someone who will comit, has staying power, is willing to work for promotions n work hard.

You need to sell yourself.

Look at all your good points first, list them then look at your bad points n see how you twist them to make them appear positive.

For instance, if you had an addiction n you had to tell your hopefully new employer, then you could say
Something around the lines of:

How I battled to overcome my addictions shows my ability of problem-solving. When I sought help I was using my solution-focuses capabilities. The fact I am continuing to fight my addictions, with help n support, shows me to be determined, resourceful and a well-communicated person n am clearly able to see my weaknesses in a positive light in order to change them into strengths. This is how I work in my private life n will apply myself to my work.

Instead of seeing problems are barriers I will see challenges and work out solutions.

Something like that. Hope it helps, somehow, if just a little but.

All the best with it all.

Evey

You do make some good points there, Evey, but I would perhaps suggest not talking about addictions in a job interview unless you absolutely had to. ;)

Thanks. That's what I meant. If it was sething a person had to disclose, get in first with turning them into positive things in relation to the job. It can be applied to anything though I'd say.

I was also advised by the Stroke Association (I failed to get an interview n phoned back for feedback) to elaborate on skills. So instead of just saying "computer skills" something like "computer skilks for liaising with people with E-mail and the Interner, using microsoft word for producing documents, leters n so forth, MS Excel for dealing with company accounts etc.

It works because the next job I applied for in the NHS I got.

Oh, I'm a few years too late for that, but back in the day I did.

Hahahaha Lol you bloody tit, you :D

I think they discuss jobs in the context of being unemployed and looking for a job. Not being in employment and looking to change jobs.

Besides, if they do it already, then why does anybody need to change the name? Best left alone IMO.

Oh so it is. MODS!!!! *smiles a sickeningly sweet smile n cocks head to one side* please could you change name of thread so it includes job discussion as well as jobseekers? as people do often discuss that here too

Evey

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll file it away on the 'suggestions' pile for consideration.*

*there is no suggestions pile. I agree with Sammy.

JSA help.

I know this is a drugs forum but you guys are pretty knowledgeable on this sort of thing so i'd ask here.

atm i'm trying to claim JSA, but have no p45 form or letter acknowledging that I was sacked. I tried to ring my boss but couldn't get through and ran out of credit. I also currently have no photo ID, I lost my passport and don't drive.

Is there any chance I could still get JSA? atm I need it as soon as possible, and I am out of work, I just don't have the necessary documents :/

I would ring them up... If there are legit reasons you can't get what they ask of you, they will suggest something to do you might not have known about, or in certain cases treat you differently due to 'special' circumstances. They'll be best to help you I reckon. There are ways around things. If not you can ring the CAB.

Set the ball in motion now regardless of the lack of documents. Payments are backdated to the time you start the claim... Get in the system now.

Do you have any utility bills in your name hex? I think they'll do for ID purposes. I wouldn't mention being sacked unless you have to - just tell them you were made redundant.

birth certificate? that might do the trick? alongside other stuff?
yep. try not to let them know that you were sacked coz they'll disallow you for a bit. Horrible system. if everyone that got sanctioned appealed and asked for reconsiderations etc the system would sink.
