Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. We're all overqualified!

Hey. Any advice people? I'm not sure if my landlord is trying to scare me or if he's being honest. He said that the council are checking up on me, as someone has said to them I'm not living there anymore. He is very controlling and weird though, so should I phone them and check? Or what? Thanks.
Longer post explaining his weird behaviour- http://www.bluelight.org/vb/threads...me-that-the-council-are-on-my-back-Advice-(UK)

Yorkshire job centres to roll out Universal Credit

JOB Centres in parts of North Yorkshire will be among the first to roll out Universal Credit next year.

The benefit, which merges six types of payment into one to simplify the benefits system, will be rolled out in York, Northallerton, Ryedale and Skipton from February.

Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith said: “We’ve already seen remarkable success, with Universal Credit claimants moving into work faster and staying in work longer.

“As part of our long-term economic plan, people in Yorkshire will have the financial security of knowing that if they work more they will earn more.

“By Spring 2015 Universal Credit will be in a third of the country’s Jobcentres as part of the wholesale transformation of the welfare state - providing the country with an economic benefit of £7 billion each year when rolled out.”

Universal Credit will be open to single jobseekers, who will then receive just one monthly payment instead of several fortnightly ones as they presently do.

Been on jobseekers for about a month now, lucky enough to have avoided a lot of the problems and horror stories involving JSA that are becoming depressingly common so far. Today I had an appointment with a "work coach" who has suggested and arranged for me to do "work experience" at a local charity shop starting next week. He seemed very excited about it and said he reckoned it would be a positive move for me, I was a bit suspicious though as he was quite vague about what it would involve and the effects it would have on my JSA claim etc (guy reminded me of Chabuddy G from People Just Do Nothing lol). Has anyone had similar "work experience placements" organised by the job centre and did they find it helped them out? I've worked in shops before and was rather hoping that my future career wouldn't be in retail after those experiences tbh, but suppose it's something to do and my CV might look a bit better if I've actually been doing something with myself recently...

Well, you should nail him down on specifics or speak to a supervisor before you do anything.

On the bright side, you'll maybe get first dibs on anything nice coming in, and get to listen to some nice old ladies talk about tea and crocheting and immigrants. ;)

Cheers that's probably a good idea, should have made sure today really but hadn't got much sleep the night before and wasn't really thinking properly. Have a meeting at the start of next week before it begins so will enquire deeper.

What a fuckin piss take of a shambles this JSA malarkey is. 8o

Through no fault of my own they have decided to stop my JSA payments and put me on ESA without either my knowledge or consent. I wouldn't mind that so much but I haven't received any money for that either. I've received a grand total of £6 since i left my last job, and put my claim in about a month ago:\ If i didnt have any savings I'd be living off crumbs and mouldy potatotes. Been spending hours filling in that fucking UJM website activity history thing too, what a waste of fucking time. :sus:

Got to start all over again with another assesment interview on Monday. :!

You can probably ask them for a Short Term Benefit Advance, they don't like to tell people about this but it does exist.

fortunately although i spent the vast majority of what i earned in the 4 months i was working pretty damn quickly, i still have a bit left.:\

I've also completelty cleaned out and closed a savings account, otherwise I'd be at their office kicking off like fuck every day until they get it sorted. Must be due at least a months payments by now, Ive still only received £6 in benefits since ive been out of work. I'm fortunate that i had a bit of cash put by, otherwise I'd have had to go down that route...

On my one and only time on JSA I filled in all their forms, put down my bank details as the Leeds building Society in Newcastle and as I'm sure everyone knows building societies have a roll number as well as an account number and sort code as your money gets paid into the building societies bank account and your roll number identifies your money within that account....well those think cunts at the DWP didn't know that and paid my money into some random persons account at HSBC bank in Leeds high street (they obviously saw the word "Leeds" and just ignored all those complicated number thingys.

After about a month of constant phone calls (in which they put you on hold for half an hour then transfer you to someone who says they can't help but will ring you back and doesn't so you go through EXACTLY the same process the next day, and the next, and the next). They finally worked out where my money had gone. BUT....they can't just pay you, they have to retrieve the incorrect payment first and that involves going to your bank and getting them to fill in a form and confirm you haven't received the money which you take to the Job Center and they then fax over to the DWP who retrieve your missing payment.....Did that and nothing happened. Same round of frustrating phone calls, put on hold, cut off, not rang back etc then went back to the Job Center and apparently the DWP had "lost" the form. Started the whole process again from scratch and eventually 9 weeks later my money came through. Luckily I had saved a bit from my previous job but what if I hadn't? I asked about those benefit advance payments but they said in this case I was ineligible and should try a soup kitchen (I'm serious!!).

I have worked all my life except for that short period a couple of years ago and I NEVER want to go through that again. Those people are complete idiots and seemingly have no compassion that even though to them you are just another name on a screen but to you it may depend on whether or not you actually get to eat that day.......wankers
