Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

i know a chap who's been on the rock and roll for 20+ years, he knows the system inside out, PHD in girocology. rent paid, council tax paid, free dosh. gets to play on a playstation all day.

sometimes i really can see the attraction

I get my rent and council tax paid - council tax bill came in the other week. Always a moment of panic till the very last two figures. The penultimate one is suffixed with a - and the last lil beauty is three zeros looking smugly relieved next to the £ and tge . whilst lounging about in their pants, scratching their balls and smoking a fat spliff to celebrate.

It's the first plave where I've had to pay the other bills though (always been included in the rent before) and between them all I'm a grand behind so could be an especially cold winter ahead :|

PS: I did have to question the girl at the social when she gifted me with 74 of your finest tax payer pennies. They have a system apparently. To be fair, I had had quite a number of crises in quite a short space of time. Some more of a crisis than others but I think a day spent at the social should be worth at least £50 in danger money alone.

Ha yes!

The Bristol loan hand out office is a clip. They should have been handing out gas masks before buzzing you through the intercom, after declaring your name, hair colour, eye colour, height, weight etc! ;)

When I got inside I actually saw a guy I think I met at a psy party in Bristol, who for some reason recognised me too. Then again, I remember he'd been sober, I hadn't, at all!

Why is the idea unthinkable?

Do you think if they made drugs legal then everyone would become a heroin addict? Things arn't always as simple as they seem. If the jobs are there people will take the jobs. If there's a recession and there's no fucking jobs they take dole. What's the problem? I'm not convinced that all these people you seem to think stay on the dole having a right old time actually exist.
I know shit loads of people in my age bracket (18-25) who have been on benefits for months/years and do fuck all apart from claim JSA and sell some drugs. They have to come in for the odd checkup interview or attend a course once in a blue moon but it's just about knowing how to play the system.

There's a shit load of young people in this country with no desire to get a job whatsoever.

Increase JSA to £120? Aye great idea, lets make it an even more attractive proposition and end up in more debt.

If the benefits system had some level of control and forced people to actually seek employment instead of sitting on their arse then fair enough but thats not the case. Plus all the Eastern Europian people coming over don't seem to struggle finding employment.

We need a tough fucking government to sort out this piss stain of a weak nation.

I'd love to know what statistics for fact people are basing their argument on when they say...

A few local lads you know does not mean the entire country behaves that way.

That is pure arse talk.

I don't think anyone can dispute there are a lot of people in this country who are happy to be dolescum and do fuck all with their lives.

Most of us on here probably know (or are) one of these workshy dole scummers. There are a 'shit load' of young folk (and older folk too actually) who don't want to work. I've known plenty of folk over the years just like that and it seems that plenty of other people on here have too.

Not every young person or dole claimant is like that and it's definitely not easy living on £65 if you've got a proper life to live and all sorts of bills to pay.

You actually said a shit load in this country. Which is an open statement, so could be taken as the entire country, or just some people you know ;)

It's fact is it, you've been reading government statistics?

Well to counter that, what statistics are you basing the argument on that almost everyone on the dole hates it and spends their entire week looking to get off benefits?

That's no more valid or correct than static saying shitloads of people are happy to sit on their arses and make the best of a life on the scratch - it's just you saying the opposite of him with equally scant proof.

He made an open statement. It could have been taken as a a few, or the country.

I'm not basing my argument on any statistics as I didn't say everyone hates it. Just not as many as some people seem to think. I never denied that there will be a proportion who don't want a job, that'd be ridiculous. We're a lazy country.

My previous post mentions myself and mates I know.

Arguing about the JSA is pretty fucking pointless really.

It's difficult to get on in a world where getting a good education seems to be the only way forwards and opportunities to learn a skill are limited and effectively cut off beyond a certain age. My guess is that most people don't want to spend the rest of their days working shitty minimum wage jobs with zero job satisfaction but are offered no real help in bettering themselves and increasing their skills to make the genuinely employable because we as a nation aren't willing to seriously invest in funding adult learning. People make mistakes as kids, don't know what they want to do with themselves and then it become too late.

I don't see most people actually knowing what they want to do/get out of life before they're 30.
Got a mate who's 40 and starting her second year with the OU doing a psychology degree and she's loving it, it's never to late.
