Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

Nah, they'll simply force you to widen your existing job search parameters.

EDIT: Or that was my experience years ago... might be different now. But like cherry, I went in with proof that I was looking and so they left me alone to get on with it.
 
The jobs they print off for you in your review, if they bother to do a job search with you, you are expected to apply for. They will claim they'll check up to see if you have. I doubt it very much that it will happen.

I've even been applying for jobs outwith Scotland. They can go fuck themselves.
 
Well I think if you've said you want to be a "brain surgeon" in your initial interview they say "Will you accept a job handwashing cars just in case the brain surgeon thing doesn't work out?". And then they'll suggest "And will you travel 40 miles to the job?" - pretty much try and get you to lower your standards. You have to go low enough to impress them but not so low you lay yourself open to any peice of shit job 50 miles away.
 
It won't come to that, I'll sign off. I find going down to the job centre once a month more hassle than it's worth already. ;)
 
it's not as bad as made out, you have to extend the distance you're willing to travel but if you can't drive it still can't be too far away. Jobcentres seem to have actually stopped doing jobsearches altogether at 2 weekly appts, you will have to do one for your review but they don't set up interviews or anything for you.
 
I already told them when I first signed on I was gonna be looking for jobs in Edinburgh as well as Scumdee. I think that's far enough.

im now being forced under threat of losing my benefit to bike about 3 miles to the job centre and 3 miles back to make a fucking c.v when i already have one, seriously what is the point:!
 
I've handed in my CV at a few no-skill places, heard nothing back yet though. I want a summer job between my uni terms but I failed this year so I'm not sure if they'll have me back!

Got an interview with the council, but they declined me, I think that's because I was half fucked on phenazepam when I turned up though.. bah!

They're trying to help you become more employable and find a job?! Those bastards!

Seriously, they don't just make you jump through hoops for shits and giggles. They only ask you to do things they think'll help you (ok, help themselves reduce their statistics but meh, same thing ultimately). Shame they're pretty much useless in my case.
 
yeh, they are a useless bunch of cunts, thankfully the resource centre they were forcing me to go to have rang me saying can i rescedule to friday because of the world cup, i felt like saying 'NO YOU CAN HELP ME WRITE A FUCKING CV I DONT EVEN NEED INSTEAD OF WATCHING IT'

Why? If you have a CV why do you need to go to the job centre to make another one? Were they not impressed with yours or something.

The job centre isn't arsed about making people more employable at all, they just want to meet their quotas. They do next to nothing to help people get work.

they have not even seen my cv mate, they just booked me a pointless c.v making session i didnt even know about when i went for my new claims interview and then go all off the wall on me when i ring up to say i already have one. bet they wouldnt be happy sitting there watching me make one while there precious football is on ha
 
They never even once asked to see my CV. I just had my 12 week review and expected to be forced to jump through loads of hoops, but nothings changed bar I sign on every week for the next 6. Don't really understand why because when I signed on Monday past I was in and out in seconds, no extra hassle. They don't expect anymore from me.
 
they seem to be fucking me about no end, and im only on week 3. on tuesday i had to attend a group job search (45 mins) sign on(took them 20 mins to shout my name) by that time it was half past 2 and i had to wait till 3 there for a crisis loan for 12 quid, which i was last on their list to recieve. ended up in that fucking shithole for about a hour and a half, stoned out my head aswell haha
 
You must give off a bad impression mate if you're being forced onto group job searches and CV building on week 3. :D

Maybe stop going in stoned. ;)
 
come to think of it, i did go into my new claims interview after staying out all night, didnt even have chance to have a shower, and stunk of booze:) ur probably right spade
 
if you think that going to the jobcenter for 10 mins every 2 weeks is hard work then you are certainly not going to enjoy having a job!
