sounds like a win win situation for the dsp then :) they got to cut their spending in more ways than one. Government will claim it as "a reduction of people in drug treatment" excellent. the war on drugs is working. :)
 
Also looks like they will be trying the same trick with Job centres . There is no "Benefit Agency" or DHSS any more. They have cut loads of jobs across these organisations over the last 20 years or so. JSA was a long term cutting plan, from the people claiming it to the people processing it. Another service that has been completely stigmatised.
Any one here ever had a UB40? When I worked there (over 10 years ago) in the training they told us that there were still some (few) people who had Unemployment Benefit claims. That's someone who's very unlucky at job interviews or doesn't want a job. They shoved a lot of these people onto the Incapactiy Benefit or whatever its equivalent was. What's it called now if you are sick? Do you know what suppose by rights they shouldn't have the rights to change the terms and conditions of your claim on a government whim? You only agree to tell them of changes. They don't agree to do anything for you legally I suppose. Would you get much if you were a benefits solicitor? Live the life of riley at the tax payers expense?
 
^ they love that word ~ mandatory. Bitch from when I was signing on last year. (bitch who didn't know her job properly) told me that providing my cv was mandatory. created a massive fuss that I hadn't provided it. Brought it in the next day. Guess what she did? Without even looking at it, after she had seen that it was on white paper rather than "umweltshutzpapier" said "ooh, I'll just go and photo copy this seeing as it's on nicer paper than ours. After taking said copy she just folded it up and put it in my claim wallet.

A few weeks after that she suspended my claim without telling me. Reason for suspension "I was only looking for jobs in the area i am qualified in".... appealed and appeal won. Created loads of shit and stress. Funny thing is when i phoned her after phoning the 0845 no. to say "I have no funds" she claimed to not know why my claim had been suspended and I had to wait till the dm in hanley put their codein. She told me I could get a crisis fund. (the words she should have used were "unfortunately you will not be able to get a crisis fund as crisis funds aren't paid for sanctioned/ suspended periods") she told me i would get a hardship payment automatically on account of being a loan parent. wrong again. Another form another appointment , thankfully with someone who knew their job well, did it well and treated me with respect.

Mandatory. May. Decision maker. I know their language well. excuse the rant. my body hurts. I am so glad that I don't need their help anymore. They don't realise how stressful it is to be on the other side of the desk if you are actually just like them and used to getting a half decent living wage.
 
Yeah they tried getting a copy of my CV off me but luckily for me I'd read that you do not have to provide them a copy to keep.
I just showed the bloke mine and when he asked if he could keep it or get a copy I just said no sorry I need it myself and nothing else was said.
Anyone signing up to Universal Jobmatch you still don't have to tick the box allowing DWP access to yr account on there so you can still use the service (it's crap by the way) without the jobcentre being able to check up on you.
A word of warning if you do tick the box giving them access to yr account you will be making it much easier for them to find reasons to sanction you for whatever they see fit.
 
so i go to a room full of computers to search for jobs (the same jobs i look for at home) that takes all of about 20 minutes, adjust my cv (again) and then sit around playing freecell for hours. what a fuckign waste of resources
 
i was actually sitting with my head in my hands some of the time. there is nothing i did there that i couldnt o0f done at home. and there was 2 people 'overseeing' the room so they get paid then, if anyone has any questions. got so bored i actually rang a number of one of these solar panel commision type companies.

^ when's the big day? you need to have the date ready so you can start making the call :D
they might tell you you're not entitiled due to being sacked :D aren't you best off handing in your notice? Your job can't go to anyone else until you have left.

Better to resign. (On health grounds)
 
It's the other way round as far as I know, you are entitled right away if you are sacked but if you willingly leave a job then you are not entitled for up to a month.

I've just handed in my latest 1 month sick note, I've been given a date for the formal hearing and a recommendation of a dismissal but no actual action yet, so only 1 or 2 months max left and then I'm officially joining the ranks of the unemployed even though I haven't worked since October/

The Court of Appeal has ruled that the British Government was wrong to force those without jobs to work for nothing in order to continue receiving unemployment benefit. The ruling arose after two students, Cait Reilly and Jamie Wilson, who had been made to work in this way, challenged the legality of the schemes. The Solidarity Federation , the anarcho-syndicalist union, had been at the forefront of the nationwide campaign, involving picketing of businesses, against these workfare schemes. Other organisations, specifically Boycott Workfare , have also played a prominent role in the campaign. All in all, the ruling equates to a major victory for the unemployed and a kick in the teeth for the Tory Government. Moreover, legal experts believe every single person who was discriminated against in this way – we are talking hundreds of thousands – is entitled to financial compensation.
