Dunno about that, Mugz. Think they tend to be of the opinion that you intentionally made yourself redundant if you're sacked. Cos if you didn't want to be sacked you'd've worked well enough to not be sacked. It's the same if you get kicked out of rented accomodation - you're told you made voluntarily homeless. This is what passes for logic in the welfare system world 8)

Oh, and you're intitled to claim either way - you just get less money if they say it's your fault you got sacked I think.

I've quit and been sacked plenty of times and I always got to claim. In fact last year after getting sacked the Job Centre sent me a copy of a questionnaire they'd sent to my last manager regarding the nature of my sacking and I was told I was under investigation. Still got me JSA until I got a new job.
 
I've got a question about JSA.... If I have to sign on any time soon(I know plenty of people that do, and know how it works) I would be really reluctant to tell the job centre about my meth script. I've only just got on it, and am on a daily supervised. I feel it's my own business, and I also know a few girls that work at the J/C. But from what I understand, you have to be available for work at a moments notice, and be prepared to do whatever hours and if you turn down an interview that the job centre have arranged for you, then you'll lose your benefts. I'm lucky because I work in the pub trade, so my hours are flexible - but I get the feeling that my job is unsafe because the pub I'm at is struggling beyond belief. Also, some weeks I only work 10 hours, which makes me think I'd be better off on JSA anyway, if indeed I did end up redundant. I've never signed on in my life - I love dong what I do. Is it compulsary to tell the job centre about my script? Because the last time I saw the doctor, I voiced my concerns about losing my job (I just know it's iminent) and he said that I would need to 'earn my script to be taken home'.
I know this is gong to sound incredibly snobby, but I really don't mean it to, I just do not like the idea of being another statistic in the 'junkie dole dosser' stereotype - because that really isn't how it is. I'm not some Jeremy Kyle fodder chav that doesn't give a shit and thinks the world owes me a living.
I've never even had a day off work in my life, and I live in a very small town where quite frankly -there just are no jobs. Where would I stand with this job centre/script situaton?
 
im not sure but i dont think it should matter if youre going to be claiming jsa. its not like youre going for esa and having to give medical info. just dont mention it.

No you don't have to tell them about yr script,I've not told them about mine.
Most of us in the jobcentre are not chavvy scum either. I'm 42 and until last year had always worked until being made redundant.
You are not a striver one day because u have a job and a skiver the next day because you lost your job, no matter what this government say.
 
Bloody well said max. The only thing that concerns me is the contract they make you sign and keep a copy of - stating the distance you are prepared to travel and various criteria we are supposed to adhere to etc - If they come up with an interview or potential job for me that is in the city (16 miles away so I'm relying on public transport) which is very possible - how do I explain that 'actually sorry, no I can't make that, or do this job from 8.30am-5pm because the pharmacy closes at 6 and I need to get my meth?'
I dunno, I guess I'll cross the bridge if and when I get to it.

they usually expect you to travel up to a maximum of 90mins to get a job.
Not sure how you can get around yr script issues. I'm lucky as I collect twice a week from tesco chemist and they are open until 8pm.
I guess if you got a job that means you can't get to chemist then you may have to let them know to see what can be sorted.
 
Indeed - Although what I really ought to do, is actually give a few clean tests in order to get some leverage with my script. Isn't that the whole point?! Regardless... I shall cross the bridge as and when.
 
Nah they're cunts about giving you a take out script. I gave clean samples for months, and only after about a year on my script have I got unobserved. And yet they still make me go on everyday to pick it up, except I get 3 days worth for weekend. Makes no sense whatsoever. Morons.

Its different all over the country. I was still using daily on top of my script for years and I was allowed to pick up on Tuesday and Fridays and the same goes for my flatmate.
Some DSP s are a lot more lenient than others. You never know what you can get away with until you ask them.
One bloke I know doesn't work still uses and yet he only has to pick up once a week.
All depends on where you live as some are certainly more strict than others who are very lenient.
 
I wouldn't mention anything about your script - arn't they supposed to be forcing drug users to go on special "courses" just to torment them beyond endurance?

And remember 10 hours at a pub would probably still be preferable to JSA - especially when they're making you sit in a classroom 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week for it.

Christ - that's depressing. And max is right - I know loads of people on the script, some have blagged it for years, but I think the idea for patients recently scripted, is to get on, in and out the door in approximately 2 years. That is what I was told at my assesment anyway, which was 5 weeks ago. Aren't maintenance scripts a thing of the past? Anyway - bit of a tangent there. Fuck the job centre.
 
The work and pensions secretary, Iain Duncan Smith, has been challenged to prove that he can fulfil his claim that he could live on £53 a week in benefits.

Defending the vast array of welfare reforms being introduced this week as part of the government's deficit reduction programme, Duncan Smith was asked on BBC Radio 4 whether, following an example of a market trader David Bennett, he could survive on £53 a week — the amount Bennett claimed he was left with to live on and roughly equivalent to the lowest rate of jobseeker's allowance given to adults under 25.
