Japanese Anime & Manga

What would you reccomend now?

I was thinking of diving into GITS: Stand Alone, or maybe Raxephmon or something....

Theres so much to choose from in this dvd shop :D :D

I'm not much of a car buff, but my mate says I'd enjoy Initial D anyway

If you like mecha then you'll love Rahxephon - its very comparable to Evangelion (some people say too much) but I love it.

GiTS: SAC is a sensational series - I've seen up to episode 20.

As for Initial D - the firsttime I tried to watch it I hated it - for the simple fact that I didn't like the animation. Since then I've watched it again and it truelly is a good series, especially if you're a car nut. Not only this, the characters are very well developed with their own set of issues.

Hell get all three ;)

haste will LaughingMan finish off subbing the rest of SAC, there doesnt seem to be anymore from them?

RahXephon is great. Initial D is quite insipid though IMHO. I suppose the car races are good if you like that sort of thing but their attempts at plotting and characterisation are laughable to say the least.

AoiChan I'm not really sure - to be honest i'm not really sure if LaughingMan is actually a fansub group or just an individual. Anyway, they're coming down hard on groups continuing to sub something that is alreay liscenced - best example is the shit Anime Junkies got into for going ahead with Ninja Scroll TV.

GiTS SAC has been acquired by Madman, so it will be released here in the near future :) Buy the DVD's young lady :p

Madman stink, they take too long to release stuff... Though I think when I get the money together, I'll buy the final DVDS of Noir. Even then I gotta wait ages for it.

The trailers Ive seen for RahXeph, do look a lot like Evangellion. Which isnt bad, cause evang was an unreal series. But I'd rather not watch the same thing again with them same characters with different names.

Has the GITS series been completed, or are they still making/broadcasting?

I would think it would be finished by now.

Madman can be a little slow at times - there are so many titiles they are trying to release, sometimes I think they bite off more than they can chew. But apart from them and Siren, they are practically the only ones releasing anime in Oz, as opposed to the many in the states.

I personally stay away from Siren releases cause their encoding sux hard - and I'm pissed off to learn that they acquired the rights to X TV grrrr - I only hope I'm wrong.

What the hell is Siren??? I've never really thought about it, but pretty much every anime thing ive watched has had a Madman stamp on it! hehe

Siren is another anime distributor in Australia - very small at the momment, and have been for awhile. They are notorious for their badly encoded DVD quality. They don't have many titles but they are starting to grow and hopefully with the growth will come better quality. The only titles they have that I know is Vandread, Now and Here..., X TV - I think there are a couple more obsucre ones to.

I was praying that Madman would acquire X TV - its a big aquisition for Siren - this series rocks!

i need to get the rest of X tv <3

...is it bad that i cried at the end of the last Kenshin OAV -- Reflections, when...(i'm not going to ruin it for anyone who hasnt seen it) :\

Not at all... I've been brought to tears a few times.

If you haven't seen it yet then I highly recommend Saikano - but don't watch it depressed ;)

They're different. Superficially they look the same but they're quite different creatures.

For those interested, I've just found out that Grave of the Fireflies will be released locally in Feb :)

I'm actually wondering what extra's will be on the aussie release - if the same as the US release I won't bother getting it, or maybe I will =D

OMFG

Its now out - I have it on R1 (2 discs release) - I wonder if the extra's are the same, I would assume so.

Hey Haste, hey guys :)

Haven't seen this thread for a while.

Just started watching SAC finally, only seen ep1 but seems pretty cool, don't like the really over done computer anims though. Looks too queer

Yeah I agree the CGI can look a little overdone at times, there's a real fine line for me when you mix CGI with Cel animation for it to work.

But stick with it - its an excellent series - I've just started getting fansubs for the second series of it =)

^^^ that grave of the fireflies is the same director as spirited away, yeah? god, i've been meaning to check out some anime for so damn long, but just never gotten around to it.

and when i mean damn long, i *really* mean it - it's been on my to-do list for a good five or six years :\
