It's Not What You Know...



Viewers in the US might not be aware that for over four decades there had been a 'gentleman's agreement' that any theoretical third world war would be played out within Europe. We even referred to ourselves as 'the dummy target'. Because, don't forget, an ICBM can be lofted so that yes, it may have a longer range than an IRBMs (hence Bay of Pigs) and certainly a much longer range than what are now termed 'tactical nuclear weapons'. An ICBM can be all three.

It was odd waking up each morning, looking out of my bedroom window and imagining a large MIRVed ICBM warhead hitting the city some fourteen miles away. My entire childhood was spent EXPECTING to dfe without warning.
