Sandbag said:Sorry; I'm in a very cynical mood so I'm pretty much going to disregard the "positive contribution" part of your post. Honestly, I would like to find a blunt object and continue to strike them over the head with it until they promise they will at least switch to a real drug. Personally, I habitually injected crystal meth...which is damned near the bottom of society's "druggie-totem-pole"; and even I find the concept of habitually huffing paint to be utterly retarded. If they won't at least switch to a real drug that offers something more than dizziness and brain-damage then I feel compelled to side with C. Darwin on this one and support survival of the fittest...
I'm rarely a hard-ass, but I'm nearly inclined to take the Darwin side of the argument.
However, go search for the thread "The stupidest thing you've ever done to get high" and you'll realize that the difference between us "real" druggies (lol) and huffers is knowledge and opportunity...ie. some of them don't know they can get high on better things, some of them can't find better things.
like what if all you ever found was eating nutmeg, and you never knew about opiates.
However, they are humans like we are, and their lives are so FUCKED up (like some of ours are), that they have to escape and numb out.
To paraphrase dennis miller...If all drugs and alcohol were banished by the govt. and not available, people would still go out on their front lawns and spin around till they got dizzy enough to fall down and see God.
Here's a tricky guerilla harm reduction tactic/dilemma:
Druggies, go share whatever you have with huffers, get them pointed in the right direction. Then they'll go get hooked on something harder so they can at least go get a proper rehab program.
