Here are a few examples from experiences I've had:
A guy who is now a close friend - but was actually my first dealer - was selling 250+ pills every weekend. He knew the bouncers at all the clubs he went to (about 4 different clubs around Canberra) and provided them with small amounts (enough for themselves and possibly a significant other) to keep them happy. He was not in any gangs or the like, nor was he a member of any ethnic group which is renowned for 'sticking up for their own kind', yet he was never robbed and never busted. He was never robbed because he had a monopoly in the clubs he went to and never took anything home with him, he would pick up on his way and sell them all before he came home. He was also careful never to go in deserted areas when outnumbered. He was never busted cause he was very careful to keep it descreet, he only sold to a) Friends. b) People he had sold to in the past. c) CLOSE friends of people he had sold to in the past. While a certain degree of his sucess was due to luck, it was also due to him never getting lazy. He is now retired from selling and recently gave up taking also. Also he always paid for his products upfront.
My best friend is a dealer on a much smaller scale, he only sells @ 1 club, or to past customers. He is lucky to get through 20 in a night. He is also careful to never keep them on him, he buys on his way out and sells them all before he leaves. Even when out at the club he never keeps more than 10 on him. So even if he was to be caught, he could only be prosecuted for possesion not for trafficking. While he only really makes enough to pay for his own usage and occasionally shout one of his best mates something on their birthday or the like, he doesn't run any great risk of being caught IMO. Also he never gets his products on loan - always pays for it upfront.
An aquaintence of mine was at a club recently, and although he didn't usually sell, he had decided to buy 50 and get rid of them that night as it was a large event and he was going overseas soon. He was approached by a stranger who had noticed him selling a bit earlier and asked 'for a pill'. He went for a short walk with the guy outside the club, and when he was fairly sure the guy wasn't an undercover cop, sold one to him. Unfortunatly a guy nearby WAS an undercover cop and after seeing the transaction, arrested him. He now has a large fine and a very short jail sentence - which has cancelled his overseas trip of course (all funds spent there were wasted). He was told he would have his punishment reduced if he pointed out his dealer, he did so, and while the cops lived up to their part of the agreement, I don't think he thought of the other consequences. After talking to a friend of his dealer a while later, it seems the guy is going to have a harder time when he gets out of jail than when he went in. Unsure if he had the product on loan or whether he payed upfront.
The point I'm trying to convey is that I think if you are VERY careful about how you go about it, there is little harm in 'making some pocket money'. You still run the risk of getting caught of course, but they are not as great. Saying that however there has been an increase recently of the number of undercover cops around the clubs, as well as patrols, so the risk is increasing. Be smart people, consider all your decisions carefully before rushing into anything.
