Internet Personas

The thing about offline confrontation is that it's relatively taxing and time consuming and I only bother to do it when someone has really, really pissed me off, rather than if someone simply annoys me. If I could say what I thought without it being a huge drama I would.

Online you can say exactly what you're thinking without dealing with the consequences, as joannie said, you can hide behind a screen.

Sometimes I think that's lame, but then BL would be a boring place if everyone was nice to each other all the time, and not half as amusing. Anyone who posts on a forum should know to take all insults with a grain of salt. Usually the person uttering them doesn't actually give a shit about you.

DQ babe, i totally agree with you.

you will find on bluelight there's lots of big egos. but they're just that. there's people that create this internet drama to entertain themselves, to make it seem like they are really powerful by putting you down and swearing at you through a screen and going out of their way to simply shit you (LOTS of examples of people like that on this page alone).

I know what you mean about the whole 'why dont we just get along' thing. no one on this website will give you 2 minutes of attention or respect for what you said. that's because they obviously don't see the further implications of that statement. and you're like me, it seems- we are very emotional, heartfelt people who simply care too much. and guess what? we're the ones that get hurt. doesnt make sense.

what you have to do is do as the romans do. not necessarily fake it (because i think that's a major disservice to oneself), but just let it slip by. dont take anything to heart online. online is not what matters. people online dont matter. life outside is more important. surely you have better things to do than quarrel with these idiots (most found in this thread) who get a kick out of calling you names without (and here's the ironic bit) even knowing you in real life. the mere thing they are trying to uphold!

spoken like a true prior ban-ee 8)

srsly, online interaction is just a microcosm. it's stupid to completely write it off as 'fake' because i think you are denying the truth just as much as if you are to take everything said in an online forum as gospel.

Like everything, it needs to be contextualised. In some ways, it's great because yes, you have less consequences, you might be able to phrase your response better in written form etc etc etc, but for the most part, I would think that (partially due to the high incidence of people knowing each other in real life, as well just the somewhat unusual criteria needed to reach this demographic) it is still in some way reflective of their real life opinions, even if they are slightly magnified.

ANywya, I didn't actually read the OP, so this might have been highly irrelevant.

i never said to write it off as fake.. here we go again, attack me cos you dont know me and you immediately stereotype... ha. fucking love it. y do i bother being nice at all.

i think a lot of the time people like you attack because you don't want to let others have their say on a matter. there IS no right or wrong. there's opinions. you obviously aren't familiar with the phrase 'everyone's entitled to an opinion'. your ethos is probably 'shoot down people you hold misinformed prejudices for; don't even bother reading properly what they wrote, put words in their mouth and call them dickheads'. you'll get far ;)

and here, DQ, is where you ideally leave it. because they'll always write back something that they think is so witty and insulting, that they think they win cos you don't write back. resist the uuuuuuurge! :D

oh. last thing. i love it how people that deem themselves to be so smart, attack the actual person, and not what they are saying... cos like, that reeeeeeally makes sense 8)

excuse me, perhaps i should have clarified, the first line of my post was intended to you - the rest was directed to the readers of this thread at large, as from the little i gleaned, that was kind of one of the oppositions to my point of view.

i love it when people are so socially paranoid that they jump down anyone's throat who even professes to have a different point of view to them 8)

but again, sorry, perhaps i should have clarified - i have had a few glasses of wine (p.s. that is actually sincere).
