Internet Personas

Who's House? Un'S House.

Na.
I reckon I'm pretty the same
and such.

Like, in *airquotes* real life *close airquotes*
and on Big Brother.

I'm not hiding anything from the other housemates,
I'm not in heeere tto win,
I'm jst in hear to challenge myself
and have a good time.

it's good to see people's personalities (like unsquare's, c0tb's posts also come to mind immediately...) come through in their posts :)

i just hate the world, so hopefully my cynicism is evident ;)

UnSquare's posting
style
is weird and
I haven't really encountered it
before.

It makes me think
of him as erratic
and odd.

But not
in
a
disturbing
way.

^^^
You should see me post a letter.

i've always been honest about myself...but i think i come across as more arrogant than i am.

gee i dont know....what do ppl think that have met me? i dont think i make much of an impression on BL...not too many ppl seem to know me....but i know a LOT of bluelighters.

and i used to be very shy and used the net as a way to show who i really am....but then drugs came along and that helped me with the face to face bit. mind you i chew ppls ears off a lot when i meet them.

as for other ppl i have come across a few that seem just a little weird in real life - or on the phone. i think its cos i met them out of my usual social restraints. birds of a feather flock together and if you go too far out of your comfort zone - meaning going to a bar when you hate drunks - you're not gonna meet ideal ppl.

Most people I've met have been pretty similar to the way they are online. More often than not I find they're more outgoing and friendly in person than the other way around. The Internet seems to bring out some sort of sarcastic cynicism in a lot of people.

^ I really have to agree with that last statement of yours. For one reason or another, people try play "Mr. Funny" online and constantly amuse people. This inevitably leads to people cracking friendly jokes about others quite often in their quest to be comedic. Chances are, however, that they aren't that much of a smart ass in person.

Yeah most people i meet are pretty similar to their online personalities, though some people can be a lot more chatty online, or vica versa.

But that said, the thought process of the person is still the same, if they say something online and they dont say it in real life, chances are they still think it, but are too shy to say it out loud- internet giving them that forum to do so.

I really agree with this here too :) I think I am much more outgoing and talkative online than I am in real life. In real life I am a pretty shy and reserved person. Chatting online takes away some sort of communication barrier for me, I'm not afraid to open up and say things I normally would not in person. Hopefully I don't disappoint anyone I would meet in person by not being quite as eccentric as I may seem on the internet!

Deep down I'm really the same though!

just not as vocally expressive outside of cyberspace?

I guess i can understand that :) I'm *too* vocally expressive sometimes i feel, that i just talk too much and give too much of myself because i'm such an open person but when i think about it , i really can't change because it's just who i am so i'm over trying to change big parts of my personality because i feel it may make others uncomfortable. I just hope that if anyone actually is they can be as open as i am about it and tell me as i would to them :)

sometimes i dont know whether people are acting dumber online than they really are, just to pass the time.

I think you would be quite surprised actually.

What i don't understand is how people can be so rude and nasty to you online just for the sake of being rude and nasty. Bet when you meet them in real life they wouldn't have the guts as they don't have a screen to hide behind.

You've answered your own question- they have a screen to hide behind.

Don't you remember that pic that has the blackboard with internet + anonymity = twat or something like that?

To save embarassment to everyone else who would witness such a confrontation, maybe?

I don't run up to people I dislike and start mouthing them off when they say something I don't agree with. I just avoid them and give them deathstares, only speaking if it is vital to keeping from making the situation awkward for other people.

Perhaps you should stop assuming everybody you meet is a friend, is someone who loves you and all your hippie, hair loving ways and just assume that they're impartial.
It will help any later disappointments.

jm- No don't know that pic? Can you find it at all? If not - doesn't matter as you just said what it said anyway :p

I just don't understand rudeness though that's all (just even generally you know?) The world would just be a nicer place if everyone made an effort to get along. I just don't get how some people get off on being rude. Guess it's an insecure power thing that makes them feel better about themselves or something... i dunno *shrugs*

ummm i wasn't actually talking about any recent event or anything so i'm a little confused by that as i don't assume everyone "loves my hippy hairy ways" 8)

I don't think it would be a nicer place- it would just be fake.

Not everyone gets along- it's a fact of life.

I don't want to have to waste energy being nice to someone I don't like, and I don't like having sunshine flowers and smiles from someone I know doesn't like me.

Aah, penny arcade.

I don't recall stating any recent events either.
Why did you make that assumption?

More importantly, why do you make such an issue about every person who you believe dislikes you?
Accept it.
You're not princess Di, you're not Mother Theresa. Not everyone will like you, not everyone will always be civil. We're human. Accept it, deal with it, get over it. It's best for everybody involved that way.

The world would be a much nicer place without rudeness. It'd also be very boring.
The world would be a nicer place without death, destruction, war, famine etc.
and they're all infinitely more serious than rudeness. Solve those instead of dwelling on insignificant issues.

Well I don't like fakeness either but there is such a thing as politeness and respect. The whole "if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all" rings true for me anyway.... theres no reason to just be an arsehole for the sake of being an arsehole is what i'm saying.

Because it seemed to be that you were thinking this was a recent thing that i had experienced or something but then again i assumed that and assumption is the mother of all fuck ups ....

I don't make an issue about it all the time.... just to those that i wonder what i ever did to piss them off out of curiosity. I know not many people like my "personality" here or maybe more so my opinions (probably both) .... believe me ... i'm used to it... it really doesn't faze me anymore (it used to but not anymore) I'm not cut from the same cloth as most here and that's obvious (although i suppose that sounds like i think i'm better when i don't... just different - before anyone jumps on me for that)

come meet me then
people say i'm pretty nice offline
then again, i don't associate with fucktards (in no way implying you are one), so it gives me no reason to be an asshole
