Insomniacs out there? what do you take?

-diphenhydramine 50-125mg

-alcohol (makes me sleep, but the sleep quality is pretty shitty)

-cannabis (my personal favorite for insomnia, works every time)

-hypnotic/sedative benzos (alprazolam, diazepam, even lorazepam, clonazepam does nothing for my insomnia anymore)

-zyprexa - was Rx'd this but hated the feeling, it made me sleep for 18 hours a day... and i was only taking 2.5mg!! i stopped taking that.

-ambien/sonata - need around 40-70mg to sleep, i have high tolerance for benzos and z-drugs. this plus pot plus benzo = enjoyable sleep.

\but even so i only sleep how i'd like 3 to 4 nights a week :-/

well 10mg valium was all i had. i figured on top of 25mg ambien it would do the trick. i was wrong. should have samed it to mix with the 2 bars i jus got. oh well. this has got to be over soon right?

also, im addicted to diphenhydramine i believe (is that possible?). ive taken it every night (from 25-50mg and this past month atleast 50mg+) (often just because i was usin it to boost the dope high :/). this sucks

ive heard its a powerful sleep aid. does it really fuck with your brain chemistry? its an anti-psych right? i used to have access to this shit but never tried it
peace

Seroquel is a strong sleep aid for alot of people and yes it's a atypical anti-psychotic. It's a dopamine D1 and D2 antagonist and 5-ht2 antagonist. Thats why it works good for bipolar and schizophrenia and is one of the safest when it comes to anti-psychotics actually.

It's sleep aid properties are due to it's histamine H1 antagonism basically it's anti-histamine effects.

...are you seriously taking benzodiazapines to wean yourself off of an anti-histamine addiction?

...no way dude. no way...

why are you using such low doses to knock yourself out?

10mg diazapam? lol try 50, i bet you could sleep then...

also, w/ding from heroin? thats what i assume...
not all people have monster tolerances or addictions. i remember when 10mg of valium would do the trick for me

Try 10 mg of sublingual melatonin.

If you're not asleep in 30 minutes, try another 10 mg on top of that.

Rinse, repeat.

You will fall asleep eventually.

Yes, the bioavailability of sublingual melatonin is several times greater than oral due to extensive 1st pass metabolism.

I don't take anything for my insomnia.

I have severe chronic insomnia and restless leg syndrome - my RLS, and just my restlessness in general, is what causes my RLS and insomnia. I've been asked to be studied for my condition, and seen many doctors over it.

I used to stress alot about it. A couple years ago, I was on the search for anything to 'cure' it. I tried medications, therapies, all sorts of things. Herbal, Illegal, legal, psychological, meditative, natural, diet, exercise, et cetera.

Let me tell you this: When I finally came to terms with insomnia and learned to live with it, I was alot better. I mean, in my freshmen year of college, I didn't go to bed a single night before 4AM. Ever.

Try to structure your day around your insomnia if you can.

Insomnia has no cure, and most medications out there only make you so drowsy that you need twice as much sleep. There's no point in taking benzos to knock you out if you need twice as much sleep. You might as well just get half the sleep, or whatever, anyways.

There are alot of good things that can come from insomnia - extra time to do things, more time to study, et cetera. There is nothing wrong with insomnia. Just like everyone else in the world, you will wake up feeling like shit. So what.

The best peace I got for my condition was when I learned to accept it. I sleep about 1-3 hours a night, I regularly go 24+ hours without sleep, and I crash hard on the weekends.

still its a natural supplument, doctors will prefer to give you that, than to give you extra pills.

natural has no bearing on its safety, it's a natural hormone and as much as docs in the US prefer it to, say, addictive/recreational products like benzos, it's <melatonin> actually a prescription product in many other countries.

The best I usually do is if I have time prepare a 30-75mg midazolam shot, when I don't have time or patience to do that I just plug it. Now that's what getting knocked down is all about.

^obviously forgot to mention that my benzo tolerance is huge so ppl should not attempt more than 15mg IV. Really not safe lol. 8(

Actually, taking doses of melatonin, i.e. more than 1mg, raises the levels to those above those naturally occuring in the brain, by orders of magnitude. 1mg is 10x as much as would natrually be in the brain. 10mg is like 100-100x more than would naturally be in the brain. Although these amounts would theoretically make you sleep, it also causes downregulation of the melatonin receptors causing rebound insomnia. Therefore, it is recommended that you only take .3 mg of melatonin. However, doses lower than 1mg are patented, while doses higher than 1mg are not, so usually you will find doses in 1mg and up.

However, if you don't have a problem with melatonin levels, i.e. your pineal gland isn't calcified or something, melatonin won't do much.

Unfortunately, sleep is a huge problem for millions of people. Many over the counter sleeping remedies either don't work well, cause rebound RLS, or cause daytime drowsyness.

Most perscription sleeping pills also cause sleep disturbances to stage 4 and REM sleep.

The best sleeping remedy out there is GHB, as it restores stage 4 and REM sleep, however it is hard to get via perscription, and one has to use it carefully and don't overdose. Don't just try to take more because someone said to. You have to start dosing low and get to where you feel comfortable. However, this goes in a completely different page, so I will stop talking more.

Honestly, I did not like most of the sleeping remedies already stated. Seroquel made me paranoid and made me scared that something was coming to get me. I couldn't sleep at all on that stuff. Trazodone gave me the munchies and made me fat, (it also caused daytime sleepiness). Ambien made me hallucinate and also made me braindead. I am currently using Triazolam, but I don't know how long I can keep it up before things come crashing down. I am still not getting good sleep. I am getting better sleep than I was when I was tossing and turning for 4-6 hours before I fell asleep, (I used to count to 2000 before I would just give up and do something else) and then waking up every hour, but things are still not ideal.

The best solution so far has been neurofeedback. Highly recommended.

Also, television works for a lot of people. Turn it onto something like cartoons, set the sleep alarm and watch it until you pass out. It is one of the few things that could help me sleep.

The best thing I've tried is Seroquel. It's the only thing that comes remotely close to knocking me out when I'm in opiate w/d.

It can make you a bit groggy the next day if you don't really sleep well.

To nOObgod...I can never sleep before day 4 in opiate w/d no matter what I take. Granted I havn't tried IV Midazalam but have plenty of oral ones and they give you an hour here and there. By day 4 I crash usually (or day 5 for sure) once I'm absolutely sleep deprived.

I find once I cross that initial hump Seroquel gives me a nice sleep where I wake up feeling refreshed. I use 50mg but I'd start at 25mg and see how it affects you. There is certainly the potential for over sedation.

there is this all natrual combo pill that contains melatonin and valerian root, ive found it to work better than most of the "Z" drugs like ambien or sonata. benzos always seem to knock me out too.

cant stand seroquel tho, yea it will knock you out but it makes you feel like shit the next morning. same thing with trazadone. nasty feeling the next day.

Agree. I have some pills of 300mg of Seroquel and that thing knocks me down NO MATTER WHAT in fifteen minutes.

Clonazepam used to work for me, even at the 1mg I was prescribed...Most sleeping pills I've tried (Ambien, trazodone, benadryl, melatonin, kava kava) have done basically nothing, so I've wondered if maybe my insomnia's really been caused by anxiety. Clonazepam never made me sleepy, but it killed my anxiety like nothing else (except opiates and xanax of course!)

Alcohol makes me pass out, but I wake up feeling worse than before. A couple afternoon drinks are the only way I can nap, though.

Weed also zaps my anxiety, but it also causes mad flashbacks and so I usually end up staying up watching closed-eye visuals.

A note of caution: my psych prescribed me mirtazepine, an antidepressant that knocks you out and causes hallucinations. It might sound interesting, but when I first took it I couldn't tell whether my eyes were open or closed, or whether I was dreaming or awake. A few months later, my arms and legs started to go into violent, involuntary spasms every time I took it. I looked into the FDA information, and it turns out no one ever checked to see what the long-term side effects were, even though it's recommended for long-term use.

It's time for doctor shopping. I gotta go back to benzos.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, Naruto, I thought you vowed to take a break from IVing after that *nasty* event that happened a couple of months ago where you likely came close to death.
