Badass psy-trance band

infected mushrooms..are hella cool! If you dont kno who they are I highly suggest you look it up... if trance is your style of music! :)

well. I've nevr seen them in concert and it really pisses me off because I dont think they will ever come to oklahoma lol..I wish i lived in like holland I heard they have the best raves! anywaysss...I really dont think infected mushrooms has gotten old one bit...it will always be my fav. type of music because of the experiences I've had while listening to it and (of course) I am usually on some sort of drug! But even without the drug the music takes me over like Im some sort of slave to it...whatever Im on i usually like listening to the psy-trance bands or hardstyle...I like all sorts of genre's but trance floats my boat!

can they still be called psytrance?
their latest album is complete commercial cheese and not in the least psychedelic.

Exactly. They want to be rock stars. Their music is FAR from psychedelic more like bad pop music with trance beats. They were once decent, but now they are downright painful, and have if anything devolved in their "artistic" evolution.

I was in Israel recently and Infected Mushroom is played along side top-20 american hip hop tracks, equally vapid and painfully commercial music.

That said I understand how their recent tracks could be considered "fun" but they are never engaging or challenging in any way that makes them the least bit psychedelic.

Saw them a few months ago live in Israel for some Youth festival where everyone was like 16. Got there few hours early to get tix and just walked straight in! No security, awesome.

IM still rock it, tho I do agree stick with the old stuff.

They may want to be rock stars but they aren't. Also- if you like rock music, presumably you like 'rockstars"? Anyway, lets talk about their music. To me, its a s psychedelic as any psytrance; that is, not at all. As far as using commercial style melodies, IM certainly does it, no worse then every other full-on Israeli trance; in my opinion, better :). Musically, they have defintely evolved; note the fact their style is completely different to how it started? Its each person opinion as to whether they have gotten better or worse; but they have certainly changed. Consider Hallucinogen- two albums and considered (quite rightfully I think) as the worlds best trance producer. I doubt he'd be as good if he kept making trance; its a painfully limited genre of music.

Infected Mushroom have certainly lost their 'psychedelic' fans; but in doing so, they have gained probably 2000% more fans; pretty simple equation in my view. Also- selling 300,000 or less albums is not considered commercial at all; a band like Cradle of Filth who play shit black metal have sold in the millions...is black metal commercial? No.

The problem is that in Israel, trance is a lot more porpular then other countries. I personally would love to hear trance on the radio in Australia; it wouldn't make me think of the music as commercial i.e. being popular or having a lot of people know your music is not a bad thing- its a very very good thing.

I agree- I thought Vicious Delicious was fucking great, personally, but before that not since Classical Mushroom have I really liked them. However, I think the entire genre of psytrance has reached EPIC FAIL proportions, and has nothing but pretty much shit music to offer for now.

Infected would go better if they dropped the 'psy' prefix and just stuck to trance. The music wouldn't be different, but the attitudes to it would.

IM doesn't need to do trance to make quality music, not at all. Take their album converting vegetarians for a prime example. Disc Two was magnificent, but not trance and I would never call it mainstream, but I'm American so anything that is electronic, besides maybe 2-3 songs a year, is not considered mainstream, IM most definitely is not.

They're great musicians, period.

Do they even play psy anymore?

Gaha, give me Astral Projection any day;)

I've been into IM ever since I was, like, 10. I think the cd's they had out bcak then were the first ones, not too good, but then Converting Vegetarians came out and i was like HOLY SHIT and ever since they've only gotten better. Love em. Although I do wish they'd do more like cd2 on CV (less trancy more psychedelicy)

I saw them at one of los angeles top clubs. although the "show" they put on is commendable, and i was FUCKED up.

i still cannot say that i enjoy there music. it was a FUN and energetic show to go to. but i don't really like them.

Wow. You my friend seem like someone who is quite jaded with trance. In the US some incredible artists are pumping out some of the most psychedelic full on fun as hell dance music. I don't know how you can say psytrance is an epic failure, its just evolved, but anything that has hundreds of people dancing in the woods celebrating life for days on end, having psychedelic experiences around intense and interesting music, i mean... "EPIC FAIL"??? Do you just miss the goa style? Hate the "dark" psy, hate the lack of melody in alot of psy now? I would agree that goa/melodic psy is cliched and pretty much 99 percent shit, but the full on dark style stuff I've heard and seen recently has destroyed some dance floors, with some of the most intense and beautiful tribal/primal energy around.

So what music is "psychedelic" now? Are you arguing that psychedelic is some objective aspect of music that psy once had but now lost?
