Infected Mushroom AMAZING!!!

I have always thought that The Gathering was their best work, though Classical Mushroom was not far behind. After that they went into a steady systematic decline. Their first two albums were way more influential, at least within psytrance, than any that went afterwards. The Gathering, along with Hux Flux's Cryptic Crunch, really paved the way for what is now known as dark psytrance. Classical Mushroom also had a huge influence, though it tended to manifest itself in cheesy knockoffs, but nowadays some better artists, such as Talpa, have emerged to truly carry that torch.

Great group. Live and prerecorded, but those are completely different experiences.
Much of the lovely subtlties found in the cds are almost completely lost live.

blah I missed them at the underground sounds weekend rave here in illinois.

ruski,

yeah for sure. but the scandinavian scene is freakin' huge as well... from twisted night-time through to progressive, the northern european scene is really influential. then there's brazil which has enormous parties; the UK scene is incredible, with festivals and parties and raves; japan, where lots of producers live and work; australia has a pretty awesome community too, and that's before we get on to south africa, which is absolutely kicking right now :D

[edit - are you in australia man? i seem to remember you are :) lots of great things happening back home :D]

Yeah I'm in Australia :)

Yes, RSA is fucking hot at the moment. Protoculture, Hydraglyph, Corona.. the list goes on. It's also where I was born which is a plus :)

I think there is a lot of critisim surrounding Converting Vegetarians, BP Empire and IM The Supervisor and I'm sure Viscious Delicious will be seriously defamed as well.

I'm not sure what it is about those albums that rubs people the wrong way. I love them, sure they may not be ground breaking in the PSY scene but in terms of sound, enjoyability and new material that are fantastic.

There is a reason that every IM concert I've been to has had tremedous energy, without new tasty music and tracks that just work from the get go to keep the crowd moving Erez (and their new guitarist, also called Erez) and Duvdev would've fallen flat on their combined faces a long time ago.

You obviously can't force people to like them, there will always be IM's critics and I think its mainly because that perhaps their sound isn't 100% true to psytrance and the apparent psychadelic trance aficionados out there either aren't willing to or unable to let go of the mainstream love they have for the psychadelic sound.

Personally I love IM, their music no matter how much I over play it always gets me in a good mood and without fail will get my feet tapping or up and dancing.

To me, thats what music is about. Not about the technicalities or definitions of the genre, its there to be listened to, if you enjoy it, fuck it. If it doesn't subscribe to your preconcieved notions of what its meant to sound like then perhaps open your mind a bit.

IM are trying to expore new sounds and in the process are being labled commerical. If its wrong to love commercialism then I don't wanna be right.

I'm not attacking you specifically, 5-HT2 so please don't take personal offence :)

I'm so jealous of those of you who made it to the Unground Sounds show in Illinois. I knew about it for months, but all of the people that said they would throw down on gas backed out.. I just didn't have enough to make it there on my own. I bet it was a damn good time.

IM has been my favorite musical act since I discovered them in 2000. I have seen them live several times and they put on amazing shows. The last time I saw them was at Ultra 7, March 2006. I have the Satellite Radio Broadcast of that same set as well. They played several new songs: Suliman, Change The Formality, Becoming Insane, Vicious Delicious... and also some older songs: Cities of the Future, Meduzz, IM The Supervisor, Muse Breaks (rmx), and an AMAZING live version of I Wish. Great show!

On the topic of their change in music... they have always been the group who tries new and different things... NONE of their albums are the same, they always take a different approach. Sometimes their changes work for the fans and sometimes some fans don't take to the new ideas and flavor. Infected has always expressed interest in doing vocals and more "commercialized" concepts so anyone who says they are doing to sell out need to check OLD interviews. They have always wanted to move in the direction they are moving in.

Personally I *LOVE* Infected's guitar moments. The vocals are ok, nothing amazing but they aren't bad per-say. I could go with or without them just as easily. I admire them for following their aspirations and move along their career with no fear about trying out new ideas and concepts. Psy-Trance now-a-days has gotten WAY to similar and there is no variety.

Infected Mushroom continue to impress me... Converting Vegetarians (trance side) was weak IMO, but the "other side" was definitely interesting and refreshing.

Anyway... now that I'm done talking about this, I'm gonna go listen to that live set!

i saw them at underground sound, from the lil cliff 300 feet up in the air overlooking the main stage, fucked to the core on mdma and 2cb and in the company of good friends...twas quite the experience!

ruski, i didn't know you were south african!

yeah it's awesome right now, the dark night-time scene is huge (damage, shift, slug, broken toy) but for me it's all about the morning sound :)

one of my friends here has done some work with corona, they're really nice apparently :)

Yep, born and bred in JHB but moved to Australia in 1988, so been here for awhile, I'm heading back to JHB in December. Are you from RSA?

sweet man :)

i'm aussie only myself but my partner is from East London and i've lived with south africans for the past 5 years :) it's an awesome country, we're going to move there sometime soonish. we were thinking about Knysna or something.

not sure if you know www.bomelakiesie.co.za? lots of events info and i've seen quite a bit about the joburg scene!

lol I saw them in Toronto a couple of months ago(I think April), they were too much I was on acid and I almost lost my mind. I had to run to the other room and away from the main room and my friend and hide cause they were tripping me the fuck out8o

i'm getting to the point where i no longer consider infected mushroom a psytrance act. for me, the shine has definitely left them....

alasdair

agreed.

i used to like them very much, but as i grow older my taste of psytrance changes.
IM is no more psytrance but pop music with a touch of psy.
ive seen them live several times in switzerland and germany, and my xperience is that the average IM crowd is very young.... its teen psy pop imho.....

Yeah its AU$60 per kG here if you get it sliced, but I've found it for cheaper around lots of places in Melb, also found a place where you can buy hanging kits and make your own hehehe.
