If you want to be "in the loop", then you have to be willing to pay the price. You have to give it your all from start to finish. You have to work as a team, make sacrifices as a team. You have to bleed, sweat, and even cry as a team.
You must be willing to pay the price, consistently.
Success is a journey, not a destination. Its a process of doing a lot of "little things" well, often without public recognition; for the pure satisfaction of a job well done.
When you achieve success, your peers will say "You were just in the right place at the right time", or that "You get all the breaks", or that "Your lucky"..... but never let it shake your confidence.
You must develop a well disciplined and defined system of belief; you must know your success and achievement comes from "paying the price", a true inner desire that burns in your soul night and day.
Pull it together, clean it up. I want to see some MF results at these Indianapolis nights.

This is about my Indianapolis EDM scene, of which these nights at the Mel appear to be part of.
I'll tell Therapy too ... serve those drinks more efficiently and effectively. It was ridiculous to see the successful DJ ICEY review get tarnished by complaints regarding the bar service. That's unacceptable.
Its hinders not just Therapy, but it hinders the Mel. It hinders Indianapolis.
So like I said, come out to DJ Shortee.
She's a talented DJ, and an overall great person. Offstage, both DJ Shortee and DJ Venom had me cracking up to a conversation we had after the show last year, they are wildly funny.
Come out, and discuss a fresh plan of action over some efficiently and effectively served drinks; about the strategy we're going to develop to enhance the results of the Mel's promo and production campaign while grooving to DJ Shiva, Wilhelm K., and more.

I've met shortee before, and yes she is a wonderful person and a great DJ (even if it's not personally my thing)

Best of luck to anyone trying to keep this night going. I've been putting all my time and effort into ripping my vinyl lately. I'm letting George borrow one of my 1200M3Ds for the night and he's having Topspeed fix the faulty RCA cable. DJs, please treat my equipment with care. I probably still won't be around much any time soon, but as always, I'd be happy to host pictures and recorded mixes if anyone wants to get them to me, and I'll come out of my shell to play a set every now and then if you want.
When Tuesdays were Broke(n) Tuesdays, lineups and fliers were put out consistently a month in advance, two working turntables and a mixer were there every week, and anyone who was owed money got paid. It didn't matter who did what, and it doesn't matter now. What matters is that it CAN be done, and if you want it to happen enough, it will. Learn from the successes and failures of the promoters before you. Develop a plan and make it happen.Last edited:Johnny Utah

no. this is OUR scene...there is no "I" in team. this isn't about how everything fits into your little world. makes sense you would shamelessly plug your event as some kind of catalyst for the seeds of how you see YOUR utopian indy edm scene being into the minds of your soon to be disciples. you remind me of JP from grandma's boy, srsly. lay off the philosophies, dude, and interact with some people in the real world without alienating them by forcing your dreams of elysian fields on them only to advertise your party in the same breath

instead, we can do it all TOGETHER. it's just got to be about showing ppl how much this music means to us, not some singular identity ie "promoter" or host of the night. tuesday night is the best night for electronic music in the city, no question's asked simply because it's been going consistently the longest...a better facet of what the scene is all about can be polished from what's been tarnished...there are a lot of young people who are just casually interested in the lifestyle, the culture of electronic music like most of us were when we were ravin' it up. it just seems that tuesday night's survived simply because of the music, not what people have been doing behind the decks. i think if we all show a little solidarity as dj's and ambassadors to the greenhorns that want a glimpse inside we have to give them reason to stay. start on time. no confusion. proper promotion. have a real identity that we COLLECTIVELY as dj's, artists, producers and audiophiles can develop to get people really involved with...it only takes a little ambition, some creative imagination and the love we all still have for the sound that still moves us to make it happen.

Ok, what about next week's lineup? Actually, what about the next 3 weeks? Get er booked! You have 20 distinct bookings per month, just 10 more left for this month. Can you achieve these bookings by the end of the week? That would be an average rate of 2 bookings per day.

Nice to see something fresh though. With a monthly booking quota of 20 artist, its feed of 240 bookings per year. While sustainable, it may prove daunting to keep it fresh.
1) You could lengthen some time slots and bring it down to 4 bookings per week, 16 per month, 192 per year. That's a 20% decrease.
AND
2) You could also establish 2 resident DJs and cut bookings further down to 3 per week, 12 per month, 144 per year. The residents could alternate, tag, etc as openers each night, or to close out the longer evenings.
If you adopt these options, you relieve nearly half of your booking workload, which will translate to enhanced promotion on line and on the floor.
It also keeps the line up fresher, stretching the available resources over a longer span of time.
I like the 25 lighters booking. Every month should include a few bookings that Jay-P Gold has "no clue" who they are.
