And most of the time pay for beer. Don't forget about the beer dammit. lol

ATTENTION PROMOTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF YOU DON’T BOOK DJ SHIVA or ADAM J. ….. THEN CHANCES ARE… YOU ARE GOING TO “STIFF” the DJS THAT “DO” PLAY.
LOL
I’ve been to plenty of events… where neither ADAM J. OR DJ SHIVA were booked or contacted for bookings….

If you're going to caps lock my name like a whiney little middle school bitch, at least have the courtesy to spell it correctly.

Hey, I was just trying to figure out why he would say what he sadi, that's the only thing I could think of as a reason.

DJ Shiva said:
so jimmi, are you just willing to stick up for every joker that tries to throw blowout outdoor events? or does logic and reality ever actually enter into your world?
Well, “logic” and “reality” are two totally separate contexts. (in my opinion)

IF “promoter” = “joker” THEN

“Logically” it may seem that I support every joker, but in reality I only support some jokers.

And that’s pretty much the difference between logic and reality, proving not only the entrance, but the residence of them in my “world”.

No disrespect, I just see a lot of question marks… so I’m just answering what appears (logically) to be questions… accepting that they may not be questions at all. (in reality)

DJ Shiva said:
when multiple people from multiple areas are getting frustrated with the disorganization of a promoter, does that make them liars and whiners? or does it mean they may actually have valid complaints?

I think it DOES NOT make them “liars”. And depending on what is meant by “whiner”… that term may or may not apply.

I DO feel that the “Complaints” are indeed valid, and I respect them. And now the ball is in the promoter’s court. They can learn from the complaints, and grow. Make it better next time if they so desire.

Logically, I don’t feel that these complaints are indicative of any “event failure”, though in reality event failure could occur.

DJ Shiva said:
i understand your enthusiasm and wanting to see big events happen in the midwest, but sometimes a risk vs return assessment is necessary to sort out whether it's really worth it.
I don’t want to just see big events happen in the Midwest.
I’m more focused on industry and underground expansion, and so when I assess “risk” and “return” I'm not necessarily looking at monetary returns.

DJ Shiva said:
and as to your statements that DJs need to take a loss...seriously...fuck off. that just pissed me off beyond anything you have ever said, for the simple fact that MOST of us have been taking losses for a long time now, and it makes continuing to keep on the fresh tunes and keep our gear running that much more difficult. not to mention that when gas is over $4 a gallon, that is a MIGHTY big loss that no DJ deserves. when you work a job, you get paid for your work. when you spend all your extra money on records, and production gear, and DJing gear, quite frankly you DESERVE some compensation for your time and travel when you put it all together and perform for people. if you think DJs need to take a loss, hand over your work paycheck to me, because obviously you think taking a loss is somehow noble or a life lesson.

I like the way Steady B. put it, I think it’s a logical and realistic take on the matter. (and I will comment on how I logically interpret it below)

Everyone takes a hit on a event every once in awhile...but, i try to be selective on those particular events.....breaking even and a good time is great....making a lil extra while having a good time...even better...

“Everyone takes a hit on an event every once in a while”
Not all the time, not most of the time, but rather every once in a while.

“I try to be selective on those particular events”

Again, sensible enough. Of course, be selective… make intelligent decisions that work for your objectives. (Mind you that DJs have all sorts of different objectives.)

“Breaking even and having a good time is great....making a lil extra while having a good time...even better...”

It makes it a “good time” …. “better”.
And generally speaking, you have to take a few losses somewhere… to see that it still can be a “good time”, and so for some... the “good time” is enough… “this time”, but perhaps not the case “next time”.

“Every once in a while” it could make sense to “some” DJs.

So I don’t like the idea of centering much more around the case of “payments” other than it makes a good time better because it paints a “Risk and Return” image of a DJ’s investments being based strictly in a monetary context, when in truth… investments are based in many possible objectives.

So when I say,

Jimmi Journey said:
More DJs should take losses every once in a while

I don’t mean that DJs need to take losses every day, I don’t mean djs need to starve, I don’t mean that djs need to bee homeless.(though I have experienced each).

I don’t expect the dancefloor to pay my bills, but if it does… it really feels good, not that the rent is paid (though that feels good) but rather, it establishes a connection.
A connection that I don’t “Expect”, but that I “Respect”

So just because I encourage it, doesn’t mean I don’t respect those who have and continue to take losses…

but if “more” DJs did take losses(more than the ones who are)…

then “logically” it would be less to bear on those who “are”… thus reducing losses on the whole(to DJs such as yourself)

DJ Shiva said:
seriously, when the fuck did you become so goddamn bitter towards the DJs?

Well... logically... since the moment you said I was bitter, but in reality, I'm simply not bitter.

-JIMMI JOURNEY

PS: Again, I said "More DJs should take losses" NOT "DJs should take more losses". I know its a confusing sentence, so I just want to clarify that.

Dear Adam Jay,

I'm so sory for mispelling your name, and I understand that in doing so, that logically I am a "whiney middle school bitch", however... in reality... I'm just not a spelling wizard. I even had a "Speak and Spell" when I was younger... it didnt do much good.

Its not the fact that you spelled my name incorrectly that made you come across as whiney to me. Its rather your caps lock OMG EMPHASIS on EVERY other WORD.

Anyways, my point is if you are going to put someone else's name in your mouth, or on your keyboard, at least spell it right. Hell, even the poster you were responding to spelled my name correctly.

Feeling like Dangerfield up in here...

I kind of dislike bluelight (edit: for midwest events) any more. Not only is it always full of arguments (the same ones over and over again even), we use it as the main hub for chatter about events while the site's main intent is a drug forum. I can't help but think that neither is exactly "helping".

but eh, whatever. i'm not "old school" so I'll leave my opinions at the door.

I guess I could just stop coming here, but then I'd miss all the juicy drama. Or wait, maybe I secretly like bluelight.

harm reduction ;)

though, i do agree to an extent about the chatter. no one gets excited about events anymore. all people want to do is talk shit about them. there is a difference between having an opinion about an event, how it's run, etc., as this thread is a prime example of that. however, any event that's posted in mw events, someone's always got an opinion, even if they don't know what they're talking about.

if people want to chatter or gibber, there is a N&S Am. Social that can be used for that. i'd like to see more people that i know take part in that forum rather than gibbering in event threads, imo, of course.

there's more to bluelight than the events section, and not many people venture any further than their "safe place". i did the same thing, and i decided to venture out. i've met new people who are cool as hell, and hell, i even became a mod of two forums.

ok, i'm ending the gibbering now. :)

jimmi...i think you have made some assumptions about my ideas of risk vs return being strictly based in money when that's decidedly not the case, but whatever.

i am done with this. i think somewhere in there you get what i am saying and we agree in certain parts, but i can never really be sure, because my jimmi journey decoder ring seems to be broken.

Can anybody tell me whether this event would be worthwhile for somebody local to attend? I've been hearing the rumblings about poor organization for a while now and don't want to go to a wack party.

^^^I wonder whether waiting to read the post-mortems from Friday before deciding whether to go on Sat/Sun would be a good approach.

^^^I can just check midwest-edm, chilluminati, and the other regional discussion forums.
