Wow, I don't remember 50,000 feet and 500 DJs at PNI3. I must have had the good shit.

Correction: the really good shit. Like 60x concentrated.
 
BTW, I am hosting a weekend of fun for us Indiana folk.

On Saturday, we are going to have a boat party out on the lake, and on Saturday Night a party at Rachael's Cafe. It's not a big deal, but it's something to do. Now, let's see how many Hoosiers actually show up.


If you want to be on the boat.. you have to hit me up sometime soon.

i dont know where any of those places are but i'd like to go and chill.
 
i know of at least 8 djs (some "names") from Ohio who aren't coming because they have realized what a disorganized mess this has become and the fact that they were told they might get paid probably didn't help. i'm sure there will be more.

plus the whole thing that was already discussed regarding dj's taking a loss just to get and stay there.

i understand where you all are coming from with not being fairly and properly represented.. but look at it this way - you won't have to deal with all the monumental headaches and bullshit that are going to come along with this event.

it is a shame that folks like adam jay and shiva were totally (apparently) over-looked when the bookings were done. that further leads me to believe that most of the dj's who play at this are going to get stiffed in some way shape or form and shows inexperience and lack of knowledge of the whole scope of the midwest on the part of the promoters.

if i had to take a guess, the main reason some of the more accomplished dj's from your area weren't booked is because they knew you guys would want more than the bedroom dj's in terms of compensation - basically a business move that slights you all and slights the folks attending the event.

memf will be epic fail, another stage just dropped out (uncensoredus). this event is unravelling like a badly-wrapped mummy, just as i suspected it would. definitely not going now, even for the people...

(in this sentence, the author attempts to validate what is to follow, by using the term “Names” so as to suggest the dependability of the source. Also, we have it down to a roundabout number of “8 Names”… the actual value of the variable “Names” failed to be iterated.)

Ok, well… its actually sensible to se how someone could “deem” one thing or the other to be a disorganized mess, primarily because one person’s “mess” could be another’s logistic “bliss”.
It seems that the “Names” have come to a conclusion… an “assessment” or “prediction”.

More DJs should take losses every once and a while.

In this passage, the author attempts to cater to the “fairness in representation” paradigm, the foundation of the whole post, a way to sympathize with one cause… to provoke sympathy for the authors cause (a strike by “names” against an alleged lack of organization). By doing this, the author hopes to provoke sympathy by “blending” the sentiments together.
The author “Understands”… aka… is “on your side” etc.

IF YOU DON’T BOOK DJ SHIVA or ADAM J. ….. THEN CHANCES ARE… YOU ARE GOING TO “STIFF” the DJS THAT “DO” PLAY.

I’ve been to plenty of events… where neither ADAM JAY or DJ SHIVA were booked or contacted for bookings….
And behold… the DJs DIDN’T get “Stiffed”

To associate a “Lack of Experience” or a “Lack of Organization” with a promoters “Ethics, Morals, and Standards” is absurd.(In my opinion)

It says in essence…

that because Shiva & Adam J. aren’t playing…

that the promoter lacks “Knowledge” and “Experience….

And therefore …the promoter is a “Criminal” (will stiff the DJs that show up).

This is laughable. (While still a perfectly respectable opinion)

Its difficult to truly “win” from this point of view (though I respect it).
It truly robs those who do choose to make the necessary sacrifices (no matter the measure) to share the music…

because it paints them as “Fools getting taken by the trickery of an evil promoter”…

Despite all “challenges” … I’d like to think… that at the end of the day… that in your heart… you hope it’s a wonderful event, and those who attend have fun, and discover the magic of the music.

And I wish I could see DJ SHIVA at this event, or ADAM J.. Or the other 20+ artists that were booked for it.
But I wish more… this event to be pure magic for all who attend.

so jimmi, are you just willing to stick up for every joker that tries to throw blowout outdoor events? or does logic and reality ever actually enter into your world?

when multiple people from multiple areas are getting frustrated with the disorganization of a promoter, does that make them liars and whiners? or does it mean they may actually have valid complaints?

what does it take for those issues to be valid in your eyes? or are all promoters above criticism because you say so?

i understand your enthusiasm and wanting to see big events happen in the midwest, but sometimes a risk vs return assessment is necessary to sort out whether it's really worth it.

those of us who have been around for a while, and have seen the massive disorganization that can result when promoters get in over their heads, are just sick of potentially good events (and this event DID have some potential) turning into total clusterfucks.

and as to your statements that DJs need to take a loss...seriously...fuck off. that just pissed me off beyond anything you have ever said, for the simple fact that MOST of us have been taking losses for a long time now, and it makes continuing to keep on the fresh tunes and keep our gear running that much more difficult. not to mention that when gas is over $4 a gallon, that is a MIGHTY big loss that no DJ deserves. when you work a job, you get paid for your work. when you spend all your extra money on records, and production gear, and DJing gear, quite frankly you DESERVE some compensation for your time and travel when you put it all together and perform for people. if you think DJs need to take a loss, hand over your work paycheck to me, because obviously you think taking a loss is somehow noble or a life lesson.

seriously, when the fuck did you become so goddamn bitter towards the DJs?
 
Maybe he thinks DJs are being honest when they say they play for the people/music and not the money?
 
i think you totally missed her point. losing $200 for going to a gig, say 3 hours away, isn't chump change to any of us. at least breaking even is the goal of everyone, yes?

You guys seem kinda bitter in general. I'm sorry to hear things aren't going perfectly with all the planning and so on. Ether way, i'll be there. :) Hope to see you guys out there. It's bound to be fun either way. Anyone with any crazy drugs should come find me, heh heh.
 
Everyone takes a hit on a event every once in awhile...but, i try to be selective on those particular events.....breaking even and a good time is great....making a lil extra while having a good time...even better...
