I realized a long time ago I'd rather go to hell than heaven. I'm not really into worshiping (this is purely form an Abrahamic god stand point) some dude for the rest of eternity. I disagree with god's morals of sending good people to hell. Like the Dalai Lama. I'm also against having such a radical shift in consciousness. The whole god's glory is so great thing doesn't pull shit for me I would need to bea able to review and critically asses his actions, (which I have done insofar as the bible goes) and then I would make the choice for myself. I think Satan might have been the good guy and realized that god was an arrogant prick. and so he decided to give man consciousness and thought. (like Prometheus) and then got a bad rep for it.

why do we need good or bad places. heaven and hell. i wanna go to a place where theres no judgement, no good or bad. no divide. i wanna go to a place that just is

the thought of an afterlife scares the shit out of me. when i die i want to die.

i'm guessing you mean a christian hell.

iirc in some interpretations of the buddhist wheel of life, everything but the god realm is hell (and that is still samsara, so not ideal), so we are in hell if we interpret the realms as specific places that you cannot move between during life. though interpretations differ and personally i view the states on the wheel as ones we can traverse between within a life, though that would still mean we spend some time in hell.

I'm not sure I can really visualise either a hell or a heaven. The two "places" are so extreme, and perfect examples of the nonsensical realm of complete duality. I don't imagine a human could exist in such a place and still be a human, with preferences, opinions, urges, etc. I wouldn't want to exist in either, which is good because I don't believe either exists. Afterlife is probably something we cannot even begin to imagine.

My next door neighbour - a lovely lady in her late 70s believes this life is in fact hell.

Turn the music down then B9 ;) Give her a break.

why does it matter? I am an atheist from a catholic family and I never saw the big deal. Why worry about what will happen when you die when here is so much goo to be done when you're alive?

Wisdom of the elderly is often lost on the young.. she may be almost 50 years older than me, but I would agree with her.. at least in terms of human life being hell. Life itself just "is", but the way we do things as humans.. definitely hell. There's not much more we could really do to get further away from where we should be! The fact that so many don't see that is testament to just how far gone we are :/

OP: There is no heaven and there is no hell, so your worry need not be one. I'd be freakin' out too if I thought I were going to spend the rest of eternity with a bunch of mormon's playing board games and face-painting each other (re: southpark)

And huffing markers while drawing up battle plans to defeat satan!

She uses a hearing aid & can only feel the vibes rather than hear the music - never ever complains either despite me ( well once anyway) wandering around naked with eyes the size & shade of an eclipsed moon. We cut her grass & stuff & she feeds us tea & tales of the olden days - good stuff all round

And why hold on to the Christian (not even Jewish, the Jews just have Sheol, "emptiness") viewpoint on the afterlife? The Greeks and the Norse men had Tatarus (Nifhel), The Asphodel Meadows (Hel), and the Elysian Fields (Valhalla), all of which is dependent on the humanist notion that somehow the universe or God (enter subjective definition here) cares or is centered around human actions. Also this viewpoint betrays one's definition of good and bad...for Achilles would have been rewarded in death for his heroic action in the Greek Hades and Valhalla, while Dante put him in the 2nd Circle of the Inferno for letting his sensual pleasures get the better of him, while the modern Christian hell would put him in Hell proper because of their view of homosexuality (it was the death of his lover Patrocles that brought him back into the Trojan War). I support the Jewish view of emptiness better.

AGHHH! Seriously guys can no one expand on something in a legitimate manner? I don't even believe in heaven or hell or the Abrahamic god. This is purely a thought meant to make people question their legitimacy as possible states.
Every time i bring something here all most of you can do is get all pseudo-philosophical "define haven." such basic subjectivity is pathetic seriously. It's like talking to a first year college student.
willow gets it TMW gets it. *sigh*

I like that^

i was just there...
you can be too -

simply make your life incredibly difficult, by avoiding everything you need, and bashing yourself with everything you want until you do not know any different.

in my experience, poor answers are often simply a sign of a poor question...
