How not to become addicted to opiates

Willpower has nothing to do with it! Dependence and addiction will result from extended use of opiates/opioids. That's just what happens, willpower is just wishful thinking....

Will power is everything... I've used IV heroin for over 2 years now and I've never become physically addicted or had any trouble to stop use.

Schedules don't really work, you have to be realistic with this. The best way I suppose for you to start this, is to buy a relatively large quantity of the drug in question and just use to your heart's delight. When you run out of your stash, just don't pick up anymore. At least give it a week, even if you think your strong enough. After a week, go for it again if you still desire to.

Also jump on any reason to NOT use, such as a job interview the next day or something.

i realize this thread is old but its still an interesting topic. i personally think going in with the attitude "i'm just going to use once a week" is the wrong way to go about things. there are two things that can go wrong here, one is the almost inevitable slip up where you realize you can "get away with" using more often and you start pushing the limits until you have a full blown addiction. the other thing that can go wrong is that its possible to become psychologically addicted even if you only use once a week. you can get to the point where you like the feeling so much more than your normal state of consciousness, that all you think about all week is how many more days, hours, seconds, etc until you can use again. and this is no way to live, youll find you were happier before you ever tried opiates if this happens.

so in my opinion, the only sure fire way to not get addicted is to not try them in the first place. havign said that though, i think some people exagerate the risk of addiction. what it really comes down to is how much you like the drug and how much you like being sober, for instance if you go through a period of depression you will find it far more difficult to stay off opiates. its also possible you wont like them that much or the side affects will keep you from getting addicted, for instance in my case, it was the nausea that kept me away. but if your dead set on trying opiates then i suggest you simply try them until you get a feel for what they are like and then stop, forever or for an extended period (meaning months, years). it takes this amount of time to fully get them off your mind.

Just read Junky by William Burroughs. It explains everything. I have tried opiates in moserate doses; my favorite has been Roxy 30mg and Morphine extracted from poppy seeds. I love opiates, but I do not do them everyday, because I could not afford another addiction. Cigarettes are bad enough. On average it would actually take like a month of everyday use of morphine, heroin, oxycontin, ect to become an addict. You are right about will power, but no addict plans on it; It is just so goddamn great that they do it everyday until before they realize it they are a junky. Pssychedellics are pretty goddamn amazing to, especially those Mushrooms and LSD. Good luck.

the guy that said that their subtlety is their draw, he is absolutely right

Ive been a daily opiate user for well over a year and I believe they are as close to the perfect drug that you can get. They are not ultra powerful and wont fuck you out of your mind really, and thats whats so great. The main feeling you get is the euphoria. You get a very strong euphoric feeling and just feel great, like everything is right in the world. And thats where the draw lies, the fact that it really doesnt affect anything else, its very subtle in how much it fucks you up so you can do it at work, school, wherever and it just basically helps you get thru your day. Its definitely in a class of its own. It is extremely addicting physically, but what makes it so dangerous is because of its nature, it is one of the most mentally addicting drugs. Once you see how perfect it is and that you can do it ANYWHERE and function totally normally, only much better and much happier, communicate better, function better, have more energy to do boring tasks, you can see the pull it can have on you. If you dont plan on having an endless supply of opiates like me, then I would NOT start. You will regret it, mainly because life is so good on them daily that you wont want to go back to a normal feeling life.

Damn right. I wish that I would win the lottery so that I could be a junky. Heroin, it's my wife, it's my life. Heroin-The Velvet Underground. I just do morphine in moderate doses from time to time now.

i ate a good deal of either 10mg hydrocodone or percecet about 3-4 days a week for 6 months......i was always in some form of social situation when i did them..maybe thats why addiction never surfaced?

Don't start abusing them.

That's the key. Theoretically your proposal would likely work (or at the very least extend the time to noticable physical dependence a lot). Let your system completely clear the drug or have the trough levels so low that it would take quite a while potentially to get a physical addiction. Just could you keep to it? Seems like you are used to using for recreational purposes. That would put you in the definitely possible zone.

I'm pretty adamant to only use at night when I do. Therefore, I rarely end up redosing because it is the end of the day. I also make sure not to redose.

I also am pretty stubborn and don't raise my dose up, even if I may be developing a tolerance or not. This helps keeps the "trough levels so low that it would take quite a while potentially to get a physical addiction".

I'd say it helps but isn't how you not become addicted. But if you have what it takes to do this, you could probably pull off not getting addicted.

i did codeine a couple of times a week when i was younger, eventually doing morphine, heroin, subutex intravenously on the odd occasion as well. i still do them now, although usually orally, along with oxycontin. i have never had a problem with addiction, even after binging for several weeks.

opiates are great, and i dont regret using them at all. i pay quite a bit for my drugs (australias market is fucked), so that definetly helps me not have an addiction.

Thats a very big risk,Thats how i started out i never really did opiates I mean i experimented a few times with morphine and Oxy Contin and it was no big deal but then did Oxy Contin one more time and then i was hooked and within a month i was addicted beyond anything i would hav expected.it was the hardest thing to stop to i couldnt stop thinkin about it,I went through major with drawals legs and arms cramping, insomnia,I coulnt eat. If i were you i wouldnt try em out because you'll most likely love them and get addicted

I would recommend in not trying it. Opiates are the devil. If you must use it, do not shoot up becuase it's a whole other can of worms.

Well man you are gonna love the opes, everyone does.

Knowing that they are the most addictive shit around is good so you will respect the drugs you do.

The addiction is not something that you have mental control over, it's simply a side effect of the drug that presents in all cases of use, including in lab rats.

Once you get a good head on some opes you will spend the rest of your life knowing that you could be happy but you're sober.

just don't kill yourself from OD, or when you are withdrawing and can't take the pain in your soul.

The irony in this sentence is amazing. Never had trouble stopping, but you've used for 2 years. People think that because they can take days off, they aren't addicted. The question to ask is, could you stop today and never touch opiates again?
