How not to become addicted to opiates

I have never used an opiate yet in my life. I mainly stuck with hallucinogens, marijuana, benzos, speedy shit, and some other stuff like salvia.

My only physical dependance was benzos, because I used them as prescribed from my shrink.

Recently I've become exposed to a variety of opiates that are in my reach. I would like to try them out.

But I don't want to use them every day. I don't want to become addicted. It's not part of my life plan.

If I have the willpower (I do) to schedual when I take the drug... spacing it out over say 7 days... Should I be okay?

I realise they are very addictive and magnetic. But I refuse to let them interfer with my life goals.

So if I stick to a schedual, and flush the drugs if I can't fight the urge... in my mind, I can use these saftley.

If I make it an occasional thing where I try to indulge in it and have the perfect settings etc... what's stopping me from being a healthly user who can follow his goals, etc?

I have no idea what these drugs feel like. That's why I am inquiring here. Do you think I could stick to this if I have the willpower?

Its a humongous risk.

I'm sure many people on this site will tell you otherwise, but I have met in person many many junkies and ONE person who I *think* is able to moderate his use, but I haven't seen or talked to him in 3/4 years so who really knows.

Its a HUGE risk. Thats all I have to say

No one can tell you if you will have the willpower to not get addicted. Just keep in mind that many an opiate addict, myself included, have started out the same way that you're describing. No one sets out to be an addict.

With this in mind, it is possible if you limit your use to occasional usage and resist the temptation to use too frequently. It's not easy to do this though. Usually by the time you realize that you're starting to get in too deep, it's too late.

As anyone who has ever felt the pain and misery of opiate addiction can tell you, this is a place you do not want to visit. Be careful.

I have a fireproof safe and loved ones I trust. If I started to fuck up, I could tell them to hide the key.

But then again, I am saying this now. If it's the best feeling ever, and I become addicted, everything changes.

I realise no one sets out to be one.

A wise move for me, might be to purchase ammount. Enough to find out what it's like and if I can handle keeping it away from me.

It's good to here from the actual people who've been there. THanks for your replies.

Every Junkie intended to moderate his use. Nobody uses thinking they are going to get addicted.

The Edit button can be handy. Just a tip :).

I think the ONLY sure way of NOT getting addicted is to have a limited supply. I actually do not have a source for opiates, and only come upon them as a novelty. Although it would be nice if I can have opiates whenever I wanted, I am glad I don't. I find that my "cravings" are not so much cravings than they are "romanticism." I tend to idealize the opiate high a lot - and so, this romanticism tends to fade away a few days after use. I do not know if this will help me dodge addiction, but I'd like to find out ;).

i know you think you can try it once and if its the best feeling in the world you wont repeat use.
WRONG
opiates are like heaven in a pill you feel so good euphoria out the ass man.
you feel so content relaxed, not stressed and worried anymore, and you just feel all around great.
you will take them again if you like them, its all about how often that matters man. rember dont let opiates control you, control them.

It all comes down to how much you actually like the feeling. It doesn't matter what preparations you make in advance, if you love what they do to you then you'll do more.

Just be prepared to have a real urge to repeat the experience and make sure you don't use more than once a week. Even if you only do it this often you'll still find it very hard to completely put them down. Or maybe you won't because you'll be a bit dissapointed. Nobody can predict your response so there's little to really answer.

If you're old enough to do them then you're old enough to face the consequences.

.
Do you think I could stick to this if I have the willpower?

Willpower has nothing to do with it! Dependence and addiction will result from extended use of opiates/opioids. That's just what happens, willpower is just wishful thinking....

I think it would also depend on the route of administration.
routes that are shorter lived but faster-acting, IV in particular, with that rush and all, are going to lend themselves more to compulsion.

don't do it...it isnt worth it==trust me :< I went for many years with controlled use, but eventually even controlled use becomes either A) uncontrolled or B) uncontrolled.

They are easy to control.
I have used them over the past 2 1/2 years.
Just don't use them all the time. Take long breaks.
When I first started, my sis gave me a prescription of hydro codones.
Took those. When I got to college I got more opiates occasionally like hydro codone, 120+ mg of morphine in a vile, etc. Just take a break for about 3 months. In the past year I got a prescription of percocet about a few months ago and in the past 2 weeks I have obtained 6 60 mg avinza morphine pills. I have taken 3 of them so far. Im giving it another week before I take another 60 mg pill. You just have to control your use. I know that once I run out of the 60 mg avinza's, I won't feel the need to get any more opiates. I'm kind of getting tired of them anyways, I don't get much euphoria anymore, especially in these 60 mg avinza's.

"My only physical dependance was benzos"

If you have had dependance issues in the past, then it is my opinion that there is no way, willpower or not, that you can avoid some degree of opiate addiction. I have had both, benzo and opiate addiction. I got over the physical benzo addiction years ago, but still psychologically must have them.I won't forget about the siren call of benzodiazepines untill I die. I can go without them if I must though and have, but am very unhappy without.

Opiates, though opiate withdrawal won't kill you, for me it ( it being the addiction I have as a whole ) has a much stronger hold on me. I have been unable ( been trying for years ) to kick opiates. I am now on Suboxone and CANNOT go without.I am more stable now though and have gained enough stability to re-enroll in college.

If their fun, their fun.

I don't think this is exactly what your looking for, but personally, I use and if I start to use it often or habitually, so what. As long as I'm having fun. If you don't want a habit, then don't get one. Sometimes what you want though changes, for better or worse.

And if your not going to shoot it, your missing the whole experience. If your set on never shooting it, might as well never do it. It's like going around making threats to kill someone you hate and getting locked up for life, instead of killing them (not the perfect example). So if your not going to shoot it, your gonna miss out anyways. Snorting it won't really give you much insight on the awesome H feeling. Assuming it's H we're talking about here.

I disagree with this biased, one-sided opinion and I think it is misinformation. Instead of going off track of the initial poster's thread, I will say this: some people can go long periods of successfully using in moderation--but, remember one thing, even periods of successful moderation are still addiction, if it is regular use. Just remember that, along with the physical symptoms of WDs, the mental issues are worse. It is your decision, but just be very cautious, because as I said in a previous post above, you can go for a loooong time if you are a strong-willed individual; eventually, the devil comes to collect his payment.

i have been able to use opiates in moderation, but then again, i didnt have a steady connection. i take them on the weekends when i get them and dont have problems not takin em.

about 2 1/2 yrs ago, i used to eat ultram like candy pretty much everyday. i would take 2-4 during school, and eat more at night w/ friends. i dont think i was addicted, because when i wouldnt eat them for some reason (which wasnt too often) i would never have w/drawal symptoms. i still take them occasionally, around once a month.

and for the beginning of my post, im not talking about ultram as opiates. im meaning oxycodone, hydrocodone, and codeine occasionally. and whatever else i can find.

Thats stupid.
Your not going to miss out if you don't shoot up.
Whats up with all the junkies having to shoot and snort everything?
