Misc How has OD helped you?

i am now on my 10th day clean from heroin all thanks to the whole bluelight community : )

^Hey, right on! Good work totach!

Anyways, besides loads of helpful knowledge pertaining to health and drug use in general, I have learned what true harm reduction is and can be all about. Harm reduction, a concept which I feel is invaluable to any and all that dabble in recreational drug use, but also one that, unfortunately, many do not practice or understand. Bluelight works to change that.

When I first joined BL several years back, my first question was regarding "making 6-MAM from Morphine Sulfate" a question which I quickly learned was not allowed, and which I quickly felt embarrassed about. I thought that this was nothing more than a "drug forum," where it didn't matter what I said in regards to anything. I learned that there was/is a lot more to BL than simply "drug discussion" and that this is a caring community, with people that truly care and wish to help others to be safe. As BL has grown and evolved, so have I.%)

^exactly!

I thought bluelight was just a drug forum to learn about getting fucked up when I joined. Since then, I've really learned about harm reduction and am now passionate about the philosophy... so much so that in my addiction counseling program at school I am known amongst my peers and instructors as "the harm reduction guy".

I also second that BL is a community. Its not just some cold, isolated forum were people just type at each other and fight like so many other forums... it truly is a community where people care about everyone else and are passionate about HELPING others and not just getting high themselves.

I'm proud to contribute to BL and its taught me so much more about drugs and addiction than my classes ever could!

I think that's a path a lot of us have in common. At least for staff members that have been here a considerable amount of time. At some point it goes beyond learning and posting about pharmacology, and it mostly turns into furthering harm reduction, or at least helping run a community about it.

Thanks for the input. :)

^ Yep, definitely. I came here in 03 to learn about Mushrooms and DXM with no interest in being safe - I only cared about "tripping out." Eventually I realized that the HR philosophy is just as addictive - if not more addictive - than most drugs, and that became my personal philosophy and the reason I stuck around here - to learn HR and eventually share what I've learned with others.

I would bet a lot of us come to BL with HR being the last thing on our minds, but eventually, we all learn to love it, live it, and share it.

That's good to hear.

Now maybe OD can teach you to use periods and commas. ;)

In all seriousness though, it's good to hear we have helped you. That's what really matters.

lol i dont know why i was never able to comprehend punctuation or spelling : ) i hav the same problem when i wright in hebrew also

I also came here (BL) looking for ever new ways to get as fucked up as possible cos I was an ignorant street junky crackhead and had been for a very long time. I found BL right around the time I finally quite heroin/crack and got on bupe. Was still looking for ways to get high (and, to be fair, I found a few =D) but I also learnt what HR was cos I had no fuckin' clue before. Have learnt a lot since then in a number of forums but OD will always be close to my heart cos even after five years off the gear I still have the heart of a street junky crackhead. It's just that I choose not to go down that road at the moment. I find it much more fulfilling to do my lil bit (whatever that is) to pass on anything I may have to offer. Or just ramble a bit and make crappy jokes. Either will do.

OD gave me my self-appointed masters degree in pharmaceuticals and pharmacology.

but now i'm the bitch in my circle of friends that everyone comes to seeking information on the flavor of the day. spreading around the harm reduction knowledge and whatnot.

gee, thanks bluelight. :P <3

In the short while I've been here I've already started to see myself become more educated about the drugs I use. I also like to try an share as much advice as possible about my current situation.

I've learned everything from safe-shooting techniques to how to make your buprenorphine go the extra mile. I can't thank others enough for how much they've helped me. I think what goes on here is very important, and that education, not "Just saying NO" is what will make the difference in the long run. Drug use is never going to vanish, and I think the people who make the choice to use drugs should be able to make as informed of a choice as possible. As well as know what they should and should not do to remain as healthy as possible in their use. What's wonderful is that through BL you can also find help, for when it's time to kick the use to the curb. There's a strong community here to help people through some hard times.

We plan on sending this to the archive after two weeks, which would be May 9th. So get your post in before then if you'd like to share. :)

If OD wasn't here, years ago, before I decided to register, I would still be shooting (after cooking:!) suboxone. I would reuse my outfits until the numbers rubbed off. I'm sure theres dozens more, but I just got stoned and I can't really think at the moment. I'll update as I come up with more:p<3

I feel this forum is most helpful for those of us (theres a lot of us) who have had opiate addictions. There is so much info on here not just how to safely use our doc when we were in "active" addiction but also for me i learned so much about suboxone and ultimately i feel it is the right choice for me at this point.
