dude, if you love techno, then good on you, but why do you have to _hate_ other forms of music which, as you can tell, a lot of peeps really like?

you can't sit on the techno side of the fence and critisize anyone who is not on your side becuase, this may be a revalation to you, but not everyone thinks like you and not everyone likes techno! you either except it and move on, or keep bitching and moaning about it which won't change anythning except only prove how close minded u really are.

have you noticed that most people when mentioning house music only said how they like house music and most did not resort to saying things like "house is good and so techno must be killing the house scene and techno sucks ass!"

I suggest you keep your hate, anger and negativity to yourself because there is plenty of that going around in this world and we have all seen the results of that...

So be positive and stuff. and if you have nothing nice to say, then perhaps its best to not say anything at all :) its a such a lovely day today, go ourside, and enjoy the sunshine... i know i will :)

Leep it Real Homiez!

Its amazing that now we actually have people fighting over what type of music is 'better' and what is crap etc

get the fuck over it

listen to whatever you want to and dont give a shit about who else likes it or not

If you bothered to read the posts here you would know that while I have critisized the abundance of house in melbourne and expresed my disliking of the music, I haven't critisized anybody for liking it.

by critisizing house music, the people who love house music feel offended.

i mean here we are on the Bluelight board and everyone here is on the same side and you are just creating more negativity and anger and sadness... well done! we need more of this... Please, don't stop now!

Hate whatever you want and dislike whatever you want... i don't care... i am not going to be like you and spread more negativity.

house music will exist long after you are gone and will continue to be... :) now there's a positive thought! :D

i wish you all the best SteveElektro. --dex

Now I don't know about house music - but country sux ;):p

But seriously - music is a personal thing and works its magic on the soul like no other. Attacking a particular genre of music is pretty lame.

Enjoy your genre and stay from the one's you don't like - its SO simple :)

ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!
If someone identifies themselves so closely with a type of music that they have some sort of sympathetic emotional connection to it, I'd have to say one thing...get a life!
I don't care how much someone hangs shit on the music I like, power to 'em, they can say whatever the fuck they want.,
And spreading sadness and negativity!?? Give me a fuckin break!
House fucking sucks, and if you take that as a personal insult, I'm sorry but it's your probleml, not mine.

And BTW, this was originaly supposed to be pretty llight hearted, I can't see what all the fucking fuss is about. I hate house, get over it!

Oh, and the point of this post was to see who agreed with me. If you don't, either don't take it so bloody personally, or don't read it.

Few quick thoughts. Steve is right. Melbourne is flooded with house music at the moment, and alot of it is bad, cheesy talentless crap! Why, because its popular...and cool. Like spinning vinyal is now cool. Having said that there are a few venues/djs pumping out true house music, thats full of talent and skill. Personally not my choice of scene but hey the sounds of Hard Kandy are not exactly for everyone else either.

Musical puritainism is pretty narrow minded stuff. I had someone tell me that I could not like both techno and hard trance. All I can think to say to this sort of attitude is. STOP TAKING IT ALL SO DAMN SERIOUSLY. If it makes you want to move your ass, sing along, get deep and thoughtfull, take your toaster in the bath whatever then its effecting you on a personal and emotion level. Kinda what I think its all about. O and its good fun

that's fucking stupid. i haven't been offended by this thread as yet - if you hate house, good for you, it's not my problem :)

*BUT* music is one of the most significant factors of my life, and to say that i need to "get a life" because i have an "emotional connection" to it (in many forms) is total fucking bullshit.

widen your fucking horizons (and i'm not talking about house, if you're that dense).

It's probably the most significant factor for me too, but I don't pump out self-righteous crap every time someone bags the stuff I like.

SteveElektro - I'm not going to flame you like the rest, but there is something I would like to know - on a serious level.

You say Acid Tekno rules - what, in your opnion, makes it of a higher quality than "house"? This is what I'm assuming your original argument is?

Explain why Acid Tekno is of a higher standard than Progressive House?

Explain why House is, in your words - too slow, to cheesey, too repetitive (ie no builds or peaks). Do you know what Hard House is?

Any intelligent argument that you may have had on "house" went out the door with this statement....

as I am hardly the expert on the subject I have just gone by what people have told me is some type of house

Re-read your first post..

Be warned though, this can cause convultions in people with half- decent taste in music (ie people who hate house)

....you didn't really expect to get out of this without a flame?

LOL "house" is such a broad term that encapsulates so many sub genre.

ironically, the acid techno or techno u so love, all had their roots in house.

and dont anyone dare to diss progressive house or this thread is getting locked :o;)=D

I couldn't agree more. I'm often saying to my friends on the weekend that pretty soon I'll walk into my local milk bar and they'll have decks set up spinning cheesy house.

Bars, cafes and clubs are cashing in on this by running house nights and it's popping up everywhere. I think Steve's just gone on the wrong warpath by attacking all house music and it's derivatives.

There's a similar thread running on TheScene (a house-centric board) about exactly the same thing:
http://www.thescene.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27098&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

There's a really good post there by rsl that captures my thoughts on the Melbourne house boom (not a property one either):

248 bars/clubs in melbourne used to play techno too...

luke slater called it "techno city". but he's a wacko who only made one good album.

i must admit the proliferation of house in all these venues makes me a little bored.

like a gyneocologist who comes home from work and can't bare to go down on his wife, i come home and don't really want to listen to house. or, i want to hear proper house. not the shit being played in 99% of these tryhard, poser venues. and i'm not being an elist...its just a disgusting situation where every venue puts decks in and expects the crowd to "rock". these places are cafes or bars, not fucking clubs.

i'm gonna start naming where i've heard shit house in the last 4 months, played by some knob jockey with tips in his hair a pioneer mixer:
- metropol
- lionel bar
- the saint
- lotel
- nest
- alumbra (last night)
- 161
- candy bar
- orange
- koo-koo

have a nice day

To that list I would add Windsor Castle, Robarta and two hundred other odd places playing cheese.

All that aside, a flame-war over music genres is a waste of everyone's time.

LOL...

This my last post in this thread... all I'll say to close is please just save a copy of this thread somewhere, cos you sound exactly like me and a lot of people I know used to about 2 years ago...

pleo, u da man!! so right, in two years time, things will change immensely.

and vurto, this one's for you. lock the thread down now, 'cos i find prog to be the most boring, molifying and mind-numbing expression of house yet. even on the comedown, with 10 cones behind me i still find it hard to get into it. i'm sorry, but i would much rather listen to deep house, or having my balls shaved with a rusty razor blade. it would hurt so much less. :p

come on, u gotta be joking... progressive house mind-numbing? 8o

i was only joking about locking the thread :p

Well well well...

I feel obliged to step into the ring on the side of House music, and Progressive House in general. While I haven't read any of the pages of this thread beyond this one, I feel that in general Progressive House is a wrongly maligned genre, and certainly without the music that goes broadly under the genre of 'house' we'd not have much of the electronica that we have today.

Sure there's crap progressive house, just as there's PLENTY of shit, boring uninspired tech, trance, hardcore, breaks, DnB, whatever you like. There's plenty of shit out there.

Progressive house when its good, can be one of the most soothing, relaxing, deep and downright sophisticated genres of music that you will find should you search the far corners of the earth for the rest of time. Sure there's a lot of people who play crappy trance and funky house in the same set and call it progressive, but it ain't. Just like hardcore ain't the same as nosebleeding tech.

So, really, while I could be inflammatory, and go and start a thread saying "The Poxy Infection of Techno in my scene" I don't. One reason.

Tolerance.

You tolerate my musical taste, and I might just tolerate yours.

-plaz out-

when i listen to progressive house, i get a thrill out of how a track is put together, the layers of percussion or melodies, how a track developes, its structure... especially when something within a track catches me off guard.

beyond that, the way i can relate to it emotionally, be it cruising, uplifting, soothing vocals, or how dark and scary an audioscape a track generates.

besides progressive house, i can say minimal techno (how every sound comes in smoothly, cleanly, how every sound fits in together in their right place), breaks (always amazed at the production effort that goes into creating those twisted beats) does the same thing for me.

there's not a lot of other genres that thrills me in the same way.

certainly not acid techno ;):p

i kinda lost what i'm trying to say with this... but yeah, dont diss progressive house, its definitely not mind-numbing. :p

Pleo, As I have explained before, I am into a braod range range of musical styles, from jungle to new wave to old school hip-hop to acid and many more. There is no reason why I would start liking house anytime soon, trust me.
This 'you'll like it one day' arguement...Its nonsense, I have had friends saying it to me for years!
And to all the rest of you, like I said, don't take me so damn seriously! Half my friends listen to house!
