I shoot up, but when I see someone (we all know at least one) who does an hpur of exploratory surgery trying to find a vein I sorta understand why it makes people squeamish.
Maybe theres increased stigma because of the percieved increased risk of HIV/AIDS etc when pinning shit. Maybe also because "you must be a junky if you're prepared to stick a needle in yourself to get high".
I'd say it's this and because of the huge stigma about IV drug use it is a lot more common than lots of people and society want to admit. Then there's the stigma of Hep C.
speaking of drug images, it's funny how alcohol ads always show some hot models drinking vodka at a party or some fun loving frat guys drinking Bud at a football game, not the guy who is in a nasty club bathroom for 2 hours puking his brains out. maybe if we made some upbeat heroin commercials, people would like it more!
No one gets drunk and pukes all night. Not unless you are like 13 years old and drinking for the 2nd time....
Using the needle has a chance of contracting all sorts of nasty diseases, whereas snorting/oral does not. The needle is also by far the most euphoric RoA which generally means the chances of the user becoming severely addicted/a junkie are much higher, and therefore there's a much higher chance that it's a type of person you wouldn't want to associate with (not saying all needle-ers are nasty inhumane piles of garbage or what have you).
I also find it funny how people will have unprotected sex, but then get freaked out by someones blood or sharing needles with a sex partner. Sharing a needle and having unprotected sex carry similar disease risks (tho you can't get genital warts from a needle!)
The funny thing is, some people think they will get diseases even if the needle has never touched another person and is completely sterile. Yet these people will have unprotected sex or use one of those shitty free planned parenthood condoms that has a high chance of tearing. Fluid exchange is fluid exchange...
Also, IVing creates track marks, which are obvious. Most people would never ever think about shooting up just because of that.
