Has marijuana helped moderate your consumption of other drugs?

I would have to say that for myself, marijuana helps me regulate other drug use. I started drinking at 15, smoking marijuana at 16, and by age 18 I was a full blown heroin addict, with a crack habit on the side. At the age of 22, I went onto a methadone maintenance program, where I spent a year. That whole year I was only on methadone and smoking marijuana. I came off my methadone last year and have only been smoking marijuana, haven't even had a beer. Marijuana helps me alleviate anxiety, and it helps me clear my thoughts and keep me grounded. I find it helps me better than any pharmaceuticals I had been legitimately prescribed, and there have been quite a few. This is just my personal opinion, as I know what works for one person can spell disaster for the next.

im actually the opposite.. im a daily pot smoker and i feel like its the chain that keeps me locked into a cycle of drug use. i think if i wasnt smoking pot everyday i would be much less inclined to use other drugs sporadically simply because i always have to smoke weed when i take other drugs.

Surely pot IS a gateway drug since you need a drug dealer/someone who knows a drug dealer to get you the pot. Chances are, those dealers also sell other drugs. Thus, curiosity + contacts through pot act as the gateway.

keyword there is CHANCE. I (and i'm sure a number of other people on here) do not buy weed from "drug dealers". In fact, even before I got my med card, I rarely dealt with people that sold drugs other than weed. (besides the occasional shrooms and hash). I do get what you're saying though, but that doesn't make weed a gateway drug. (in the sense that most people think of it).

I would actually consider alcohol much more of a gateway drug than weed. Maybe it's just me, but I would say 75% of all drugs I took for the first time were 'drunken decisions'. Also, last year when I had to quit smoking weed for 2 months because of drug testing, I started experimenting other drugs.

This is exactly what I have been saying for years. This is the only sense that cannabis is a gateway drug. legalization would prevent this... all the more reason for legalization.

That said, Cannabis has never curbed any of my other drug usages - in fact, I generally use cannabis as an enhancer of other drugs. That's not to say I don't smoke cannabis and leave it at that regularly, but it's never prevented me from doing other things.

thats the truth

weed never makes me WANT another drug

to each is own though

I registered specifically because of your post, hardcheeba. your post is ridiculously ignorant. If pot is a gateway drug, so are alcohol, cigs, and milk. I mean, i drank milk before I started to take 2ci, it must be connected right? nah.

though pot may be a gateway drug, your reasoning behind it is completely invalid. I mean if somebody becomes addicted to meth, it probably wasnt the first drug they tried. if anything, they got tangled up within the black market buying a drug they knew wasnt that bad for them. Before long, the people they were buying pot from had gotten a hold of some oxys, maybe some coke, etc. see the pattern?

yeah if you smoke a dub a day for weeks on end, then you probably already have some chemical dependency issues. it doesnt mean it was caused by bud. its too early to make words lol

I agree with Joesup. Talking about gateway drugs is valid in one sense when I think about really young kids, but alcohol is as much of a gateway drug and IMO, much more harmful than pot. I started drinking when I was 9, and drank alcoholically from the start. I quit that when I was 29, and yes have used many (too many) other substances over the years. I'm not trying to rag on your opinion about gateway philosophy, but I like the adrenaline surge I get when I go target shooting. I don't Think that neccessarily would lead me to use illicit stimulants. But that's just me.

yes and no.

i find that smoking weed at first does help me stay away from the hard shit i do.
when im stoned, everything is good and fine, and i am content. i dont want to fuck with other drugs at all.

but after awhile, i tend to get bored with weed. and being stoned. so me being the addict that i am, wants something different, and more exciting. so then i reach for the other drugs...so i guess my answer is, it works for the time being, but it does not work [for me] in the long run...

by saying drugs are meant to be used by mankind, your pointing towards you belief in a higher power. Therefore i find anything you post to be completely hypocritical, ignorant, and racist. Just like your holy book is.

It can be claimed that cannabis was meant to be used by humans simply because there are so many cannabinoid receptors in the human body.

When I'm high on marijuana, I much more inclined to think about what the drugs I'm taking on a regular basis are doing to my body. I gave up cigarettes because I was always worrying about their health effects when I smoked while high. It also gives me a less harmful alternative to use when I'm trying to stay away from other drugs.

I just quit smoking cigarettes on NYD at 2 in the morning. Right now, I'm using a combo of patches and bud. Its working great. I was actually high when I decided to quit! so yes, i agree with you.

I think that canabis causess a modest and incinsistebtt decrease in dryg withdrawl with Et OG and Heroin. With heroin, depending in the strain, it has potential to cause an increase un pleasasnt physical symptom, withdrawl.suffering, even oanix atacks. think 7-10 days out the herb can manage PAWs and craving.

Hell yeah. Helped me quit cigarettes and alcohol. And smoked through my recent cold turkey from heroin, but not before bed. PRob will be a great tool for me during paws.. it helps when you feel like gettin high/altered..

i can say that, for my personal experience, pot WAS a gateway drug. it wasnt necessarily a bad thing, but i wouldnt jump straight from alcohol to acid or shrooms. thats just too big a leap. after smoking bud for a while, and getting to know some dealers, it just seemed like something that wasnt a huge deal.

it doesnt really make me want to do any drugs, but it definitely got me there. on a side note, i dont smoke cigarettes on a regular basis, in fact i rarely do, but whenever i get drunk, i really want a cigarette.

Is it true that smoking weed mixed with tobacco is worse than simply smoking tobacco by itself? I true to consume my drugs separately from each other so I can feel their individual effects. But weed and shrooms are a definitely a good time.

In my place, alcohol (4 years old in Greece- its cultural thibg). Then I developed a mild obsession of alcohol and nicotine. Raided parents licor cabinet a few times. It was the drug of choice in Junior high were we mized "death drinks" mixing togethe what we could clectively find from parents cabinets. On that occasion, a few got caught because we were narcked on (in Gym- stupid out in the open). I skated free because I was present that time but didn't imbibe. We had a friend that had a friend a cool young dad that would kind of look the other way when we had sleepovers, even when his son raided the huge liquor cabinet. We got drunk a few times, but vrazy drunk, puke in the fort, pass out. I wanted to experiment with cocaine after reading a time & Newsweek article that made it sound like a perfect drug. i was unsuccessful in my attempts (tried through a friend when I was 12] finally got to do a few lines of decent coke after soccer practice WITH CHICKS! htrough a well conected friend after soccer practice that also smoked us out in Reno at a tournament with Northern CA's finest- Highest I ever been- walked ouside and felt I was underwater. The joint was just good ( don't think it was a lenyos [CA slang for a laced joint]). I tripped at circus circus were we were staying and finished dragonslayer all the wat to the end for the first time in my life after years of trying-it came naturally. I had/ and still do, an unatural facinination of min altering chemicals, including EtOH, Nicotine, and Cafeine.

But the chicken and egg debate: I read my sisters college textbook that debunked alot of what I read in health ed. I developed a affinity if I could get my hands on it on coccaine- and for several years, had no interest in using Cannabis, paradoxically. I would use opiates (could never forget the effect that a codeine pill did to the excruciating pain at 3 in the morning- it miracously stoped being distressful. Anyway, one could say, a bizzare intellectual curiosity preceded my use of drugs. Drank alcohol for years before and the outcome was usally bad with my friends- I, paradoxically excersixed the most control. Then pot-coke-tweak-acid-shrooms-opium-E in fairly rapid order.

I contrast this with my Greek cousins- there were very little taboos atleast when used in the presence of an adult-kids wouldn't sneak booze, it was a non-issue. When I visited and I was 20, I was shocked to see that my cousins on a typical night out drank coffee nescafe blended drinks "Frapes"- the greek twist on this drink. They would go out every couple of days and drink- someone would splurge on a bottle of scotch- but it was rare to see them drink more than 2 or 3 drinks in an evening. Cannabis- forget it- not in their circle. There was a subculture that smoked it but it was very small by western standards. I had 2 seperate cousins that had friends that smoked- and non of them according to them were regular users.

On the trip on the Ferry from Italy to Greece, I met 2 truck drivers that smoked hash-they emphasized it was Greek hash- but you could tell they had their own clique and were ostracized by other truck drivers.

So I would say that alcohol is the gateway drug and in some states its given equal staus as cannabis. I think the old OCs or heroin are the gateway drugs and coke in the UK and other parts of theory, "if you subscribe to the gateway theory.

he fact is, that illegalization & strict rules, even underparental supervision- leads to the "forbiden fruit syndrome." I would advocate controlled consuption with adults or cannabis smoking. I would not advocate it with other drugs (maybe shrooms)=D

Going back- when Greeks had sleepovers, they had free access to booze, but usually choose soda instead (in the 80s).

ok, so to respond to the original thread topic (which I think this thread should be either removed or have its name changed)

I used to have a rolling problem, like twice a week with VERY high doses. Now, I've cut back alot, and filled in the gaps with weed. It really has helped a ton
