Has marijuana helped moderate your consumption of other drugs?

When I'm high on marijuana, I much more inclined to think about what the drugs I'm taking on a regular basis are doing to my body. I gave up cigarettes because I was always worrying about their health effects when I smoked while high. It also gives me a less harmful alternative to use when I'm trying to stay away from other drugs.

pot is a gateway drug. its a fact. smoking bud long enough ur eventually gonna want something more. so i'd argue the exact opposite of your point. agree about the cigs part though, realized they were doing nothing for me (not getting me high) so i realized there was no point.

obviously though if you smoke a dub a day eventually you will get bored with weed and gradually move into other drugs weather it be pills or what have you.

I registered specifically because of your post, hardcheeba. your post is ridiculously ignorant. If pot is a gateway drug, so are alcohol, cigs, and milk. I mean, i drank milk before I started to take 2ci, it must be connected right? nah.

though pot may be a gateway drug, your reasoning behind it is completely invalid. I mean if somebody becomes addicted to meth, it probably wasnt the first drug they tried. if anything, they got tangled up within the black market buying a drug they knew wasnt that bad for them. Before long, the people they were buying pot from had gotten a hold of some oxys, maybe some coke, etc. see the pattern?

yeah if you smoke a dub a day for weeks on end, then you probably already have some chemical dependency issues. it doesnt mean it was caused by bud. its too early to make words lol

Most drugs are harmless.
They are also meant to be used by mankind.

So if pot was a 'gateway drug' that would make it a good thing.

Not that the 'gateway drug' theory has any real value anyways.

Surely pot IS a gateway drug since you need a drug dealer/someone who knows a drug dealer to get you the pot. Chances are, those dealers also sell other drugs. Thus, curiosity + contacts through pot act as the gateway.

Looks like a thread hijack. My original post was about how marijuana made me introspective causing misgivings about my use of physically damaging drugs and how it offered a less harmful alternative. Having said that, the gateway theory is stupid. People who try marijuana are more likely to try all drugs in general because of their mindset. We would still have meth users even if the marijuana had never existed.

Have any of you found marijuana to have a beneficial or deleterious effect on your other drug use?

basically what i was saying and then some.

@OP- yeah to some extent it has. there are the evenings when i could really go for a drink, like extreme compulsions telling me i want some booze, but then after a few hits of some bud those compulsions die down and usually just turn into a case of the munchies.

but on the other hand, i think it helps me to get past my worries about the harmful effects of other drugs too. plus whenever I smoke, i have a cig afterwards without fail. so for me i guess it helps on some occasions and makes it worse on others, just a matter of context really.

Nope... in fact, my consumption of other drugs increases my consumption of pot.

i think pot helps me manage my other drug use a lot. after smoking a lot of weed in high school i realized getting high all the time isn't all that necessary or that fun. i'm smoking less weed now and enjoying my highs more. i apply that theory to other drugs but on a grander scale especially considering how detrimental they can be to me. so yes i'd say pot has helped me quite a bit in moderating my other drug use.

by saying drugs are meant to be used by mankind, your pointing towards you belief in a higher power. Therefore i find anything you post to be completely hypocritical, ignorant, and racist. Just like your holy book is.

It makes the side-effects of other drugs worse in general, including long-term after-effects.

No, it's not. There is no such thing.

There are only addictive personalities.

What the fuck? You can be an atheist, and also believe that drugs were meant to be used by mankind...

IME, weed has been one of the most useful tools in quitting a sizable heroin habit. I've been on a variety of maintenance meds (bupe, DHC, 'done), which helped in some ways, but none really satisfied the desire to get high. And while weed is obviously nothing like a fat shot of dope, smoking a bowl is enough to mask the cravings and helps with withdrawal.

I haven't experienced any burn out or perceptible negative effects from daily cannabis use....and although I do perhaps toke a bit too often, it's a hell of a lot healthier than h and has def improved my life.

Like someone else mentioned, if you smoke weed long enough, you'll get bored. This boredom can lead to either quitting drugs or trying new ones. Just through years of observation I've noticed that most of my friends tried weed first and then tried harder drugs later. This is not necessarily causation 100% of the time. There are infinite factors to consider.

Source? The DEA doesn't count. I know plenty of people who only use cannabis with no desire to try anything 'harder', even after several years of blazing.

Smoking herb helped me majorly cut back on my abuse of alcohol. I wasn't an alcoholic but I would have became one had I kept drinking like I was. I know it's not a good thing to replace one drug with another but I slowly cut back on my large daily amounts of booze and then became a total pothead for a period of time.

Doesn't the word "meant" imply some kind of grand plan or purpouse in humanity's use of drugs that is a bit incongruous with an atheist viewpoint?

How is this a fact? Doesn't this apply to all drugs, or is it just some special property of weed which means regular users get bored and have a compulsion to try something harder?

yes and no.

i find that smoking weed at first does help me stay away from the hard shit i do.
when im stoned, everything is good and fine, and i am content. i dont want to fuck with other drugs at all.

but after awhile, i tend to get bored with weed. and being stoned. so me being the addict that i am, wants something different, and more exciting. so then i reach for the other drugs...so i guess my answer is, it works for the time being, but it does not work [for me] in the long run...
