Guns/Weapons Discussion

"What is your obsession with weapons? It's quite disturbing."

I start a thread with me posting about KITCHEN knives and asking others what their preferences are, and then you begin to question me about my "obsession with weapons" and proceed to tell me how much I disturb you. You really do confuse me, so please forgive my anger for what was [hopefully] a misunderstanding.

Your first thread made no mention of the word 'kitchen'. That, along with your concurrent thread about guns, could easily be construed as just another thread about weapons. That may have been my own misinterpreation, that I am prepared to accept, but it is one that can easily be made, given the circumstances. I apologise for that misunderstanding but hopefully you can understand why it occurred.

It's all cool guys! Anyways, back to the weapon discussion.

Personally I don't own any fire-arms (this hobby is a little out of my price-range atm), but I love playing with my friends Steyr Scout (damn that thing is light!) and some other bigger boys from his collection (sorry I'm bad with names). What is your opinion on the Steyr Scouts Smilies? I think it cost him $3-4000AUS, and I have read varied reviews. Also when I'm in another state, my friends fully-auto AK-47 gives us plenty of entertainment!

And as for my weapon of choice to defend my household (not that this is really an issue where I currently live); my 15inch dagger and my skateboard are always in close reach! Although I think I would probably pick-up the skateboard if need be, as I've had an uncomfortable experience fighting with knives before.*

I'm walking home minding my own business at 3am in the morning in a decent suburb, and this guy jumps out of a car shouting at me and lunges at me with a knife, I hold his right shoulder back and throw a couple straight rights to his head, ground and pound, he must of dropped the knife, I can see the knife on the floor right next to us, I'm worried he's gona pick it up again, so i grab it, then i was going to try and stab him because I was a bit worried that i needed to end this situation quickly because I was almost to exhaustion (been out drinking all night) and this guy was showing zero signs of giving up, but i just put him in a headlock and started carving the knife into the top of his skull whilst I'm telling him to calm down and relax (which makes little sense, hell the fucker was even laughing at me) because i was too scared to puncture any soft parts of him, anyway we were very lucky people broke it up before anyone was seriously injured, although I suffered a few fractures in my hand due to punching him in the head so many times. Knives in fights, I fucking hate it. What would you have done in the same situation?

i don't have much first hand knowledge of the scout. however, i've heard some mixed reviews. but more than not, people seem to like it. for the most part, the prefered caliber is the .308 (7.62mm). i'd like to try one myself. if, for nothing else, just to say i did.:)

as far as your knife fight situation. i think you would have been justified seeing that it was self defense. if it happened to me. well, i think someone would've gotten hurt. but who knows.
 
Hey Seuss, I'm still waiting for your justification of smoking. Shouldn't you be banned from being a responsible smoker if that allows us to stop irresponsible smokers? :-)

Back on topic, I have a .22/20 gauge over/under garden gun. These cute little breach loaders were designed to shoot various varmints around the yard for country dwellers; light and compact. I also have a 7" barrel stainless steel Taurus Tracker revolver. From the side, it looks like a weapon of divine retribution, but it's chambered for .17-cal, which shoots a slug half the weight of a .22. Woe to the pop can that should try to mug me! :-) Perfectly appropriate, however, for somebody who shoots for relaxation.

I don't imagine I'll ever have cause to point a gun at a person. The culture of gun ownership and use is very different in rural areas than in urban areas.

Most of those were suicides. If they'd hung themselves instead, would you be agitating for tighter controls of rope sales? (I'm tired of this 'but guns are only made to kill' argument. The overwhelming majority of firearms are purchased for hunting, target shooting, and out of a simple appreciation of the gun as a form of art.)
 
i had a fun day at the range today. one of my buddies got to bring his work toy with him. let me tell you how fun this is to shoot. Barrett rifles are fun.

^I've squeezed the trigger of a Barrett M99, but nothing of their newer line up. The armory only had like three large bore ones. The rest are kept in another armory, which I have no access to. It was loud as fuck, and you sould have seen everyone at the range stop to watch me shoot that damn thing. Yeah I want one. You could serioulsy reach out and touch someone with them. Calculating trajectory is pita though. Those .50 rounds drop quite a bit over 600 yards.

I did get to squeeze a few on one of these though.

It's a Yugoslavian M-93 Black Arrow. They found one when I was in Iraq, and had to burn off the ammo. We got to try it out rather than just let the EOD guys take care of it.

true. however, it was a fun time zeroing that thing in.=D i sure as hell would not want to be on the receiving end of it. that Black Arrow looks like it was fun to shoot. and i'm sure that there was a lot of arm twisting to get you guys to burn off the rounds.:)
 
What grain bullet is it? I got a pretty dead-on way to determine trajectory if i know the grain of bullet.

Matching grains isn't something you can really do on these larger guns. Especially with Mil-spec ball. What we do do is zero the gun at around 1000m with a specific batch of ammo, and work with the rounds in the same batch. Only the Materia snipers and the Marine snipers get the matched ammo.

Unless you are refering to something different, then I'm all ears.

Zeroing is easy if you use the Army's fomula's and scopes. The arm twisting was the worst part, but it was the arm twisting to get the rifle away from us that is. ;) I love shooting such large caliber rifles. It's crazy what kind of rush it is to look at this little target way the fuck out there, and then see yourself tapping it like it was nothing.

the only thing that made it easier for me to let go of the rifle was the cost of ammo. now, i'm assuming you're military. your ammo is free to you. lucky bastards.;) :)
 
^ I know a guy that could help you get the free military ammo. You have to fill out some paperwork, and do a lot of running while getting your ass chewed on by a Drill Sergaent though.
 
LOL @ guncam. I have a really good conection where i get quality 5.56 and 7.62 rounds for dirt cheap prices.I buy them by the 1000.But finding a good price on .50 caliber rounds is tough.They are pretty high everywhere i've looked.
 
i can get the 5.56 rounds for next to nothing. same with 9mm. and when we switch to .40 cal, i'll be able to do the same. and thanx DeepSea for the offer. i feel that being contracted by DOE gives me some sense of protecting our country. and a nice paycheck.$$$ :)
