Guns/Weapons Discussion

Alasdair, haven't you ever seen Red Dawn? =D

But seriously, Non-american, anti-firearm folks seem to live in a world where treaties and laws always trump force. Do you actually believe that there will never be an invading force threatening your soil, or that your government might decide that its a good idea to kill you? Its happened more than a few times in the past, its happening right now, and it will happen in the future. Does it not bother you because its very unlikely that it wont happen to you in your lifetime?

The cons outweigh the pros:

Ya, they do. Theres a whole mountain of dead kids, I hear. The cons outweigh the pros regarding drinking, smoking, monogamy, organized religion, driving fast, greasy food, and a whole bunch of other things. These are things I don't think, however, its my business to tell people not to do. It becomes my business when they hurt another person (I think we've got a law aginst shooting people). Why don't all you more civilized people just agree to never come here, and then shut up about it. We wont be amending the constitution anytime soon (and that is what the European model of gun control would take, despite arguements against the supposed spirit of the amendment).

Lets Ban all teh Gunz0rz!!!1!11!:

Banning guns with amnesty programs might work in Iceland, but it isn't going to work in a country that can't keep heroin out of a maximum security prison, nevermind a country that lives next to central and south america.

Ya, like the government is ever going to start killing people:

Ruby Ridge
Waco, Texas

Ya, but those are just crackpots, republican, crazy people:

Rainbow Farm: look into it.

I don't own any guns, I don't plan on buying any. I look at people with an erection for firearms with a mix of fear and distain. I guess I'd fit in with the other occupants of one of those Milk toast Commonwealth countries. I'd move, but I'd hate to be surrounded by assholes who think its their job to tell me right from wrong. I already spend a few hours a day lurking reading threads like this.

Seuss, Alasdair, you know I still like you.

SMC... uh, nice hustle.

Many people from your country consider this a valid reason to own a gun (check out your local gun club), I don't know why you are holding it against this guy.

I'm not holding anything against anyone.

Can anyone recommend a quality .22 revolver? I decided against buying multiple guns my first time, and am just going for a relatively cheap target pistol to learn the ropes. No 9mm, .38, or .45 for me thank you. At least not yet. Taurus seems to have quite a few of them, but how do you determine which is quality and which is not ? What would the difference be (in terms of actual shooting/firepower) between two revolvers made by the same person but with slightly different weights/design ?

i don't know about revolvers. however, the Ruger Mark III is a wonderful target gun. i own a Mark I. i shoot compettitively with it. i also live in MA. so i can't get the Mark III. one of my friends who lives in VT has one and i've shot it. it's a great target gun.

as far as your last question goes. the difference that weight will make in any gun is that it adds stability. the heavier the barrel, the less recoil travel you will get. keep in mind though, balance is key to everything. firepower is all in the round you shoot. it has nothing to do with the gun itself. and as far as barrel length is concerned. that deals with the accuracy. the longer, the more accurate.

hope that helps.:)

the problem with these situations is that the guns they had contributed to their demise. We will never outgun the military.

and it gives the military an excuse when they do shoot to kill

What kind of knives do you like?

Personally I like my $70 victorinox chef knife and my $30 pearing knife. Get's the job done. Also I like the older Global range with the heavier handles.

How about you?

All Arcos and Delta, and most Wusthof knives all have bolsters (where the blade thickens just before it goes into the handle) They're stupid, you can't sharpen knives properly with bolsters... And all Wusthof knives are really thick, which is pointless unless you're using the knife as a cleaver.

I've never used a Global, but I'm curious... there rubber stud handles look stupid.

Wusthof knives are some of the best knives produced..your statement is BS and obvisouly you do not own any, I would not buy any other knife now, that I own a set of Wusthof trident..

The bolster is the weight and balance, and many people prefare that, to call them "stupid" is not so..

My entire kit is Henckels, except for my Messermeister tournee knife. Just bought a Henckels santoku, and it's rocking my world, especially for ripping through veggies.

I'm going to merge this with the gun thread [edit: that being, the knife thread] - they're all one and the same - weapons. Please refrain from creating any more threads of a similar type. It is completely unnecessary to have multiple threads on weapons.

I dig guns.Which is what this thread was intended for in the first place.I have massive assortment of handguns(revolvers and semi-autos), assault rifles(fully and semi-auto),hunting rifles(every caliber from a .22 to a 460 rigby),and a shit load of shot guns(mostly Benneli pumps and mossburg, remington and winchester autos, but I do have 4 very rare collectable Belgium made Brownings. I love to talk guns almost as much as I like to shoot them.PM me if anyone is interested in talking more about firearms.

i like ^ these.

Don't believe in all the hype about the over-priced German knives. I know of an internationaly famous Chef who would reccomend a cheap set of Globals over Weusthofs (read more about these comments in the following book I mention).

Also anyone interested into reading about the crazy underworld kitchen lifestyle check out a book called Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bordain, an Nam-vet/ex-CIA/turned chef.

And lastly, I dont know why this was merged into a weapons thread, I intended it to be about kitchen knives, my mistake for the lack of clarification, can we merge it back?

BTW Seuss, where are all your pics of people with stab-wounds?

I'm gonna try and ignore that ^ (what kinda world do we live in, seriously?)

Anyway...

Yes, those victorinox chef knives are excellent, I think the metal they make there blade out of is a little soft, japanese knives usually are better... but I can't believe how many knives twices as expensives as Victorinox are badly designed

Yeah I love those Victorinox's, especially their pearing knives, you'll be hard to find one better! Their whole range is really great value for money, and do a Chef's job perfectly. I've never owned the Globals, but I've sometimes used my workmates, they are pretty good knives, but yeah I don't like the handles that much, especially the new ones, the older models used to have heavier handles.

Excuse me, but who the fuck are you talking to?

I was talking to you. But I'm not sure you really need to express your response in that way. I am personally against weapons of all kinds and can safely say this is an opinion shared my many others. I, as does anyone, have the right to express my opinion. Naturally, you are more than entitled to disagree with that, which you obviously do, but I would personally prefer it if you expressed yourself in a less hostile manner.
