NEMD Grateful Dead Appreciation Thread

Was never able to see the Grateful Dead.
Jerry passed when I was 5 yrs old. :(

I have been to Phil Lesh and friends and The Dead.
Damn dad turned me into a DeadHead

^ Good Dad.
I only saw GD about 22 times, and Jerry Garcia Band about 6 times. Since then, it's been Ratdog, Phil and Friends, Mickey Hart Band, and most recently, Furthur.

See Furthur if you lik this music! These guys rip it up!

I reach to the dead for spiritual experience, and receive one every time. I'm catching Furthur at All Good, and would be doing the Mann shows, but I will still be in WV raging at All Good.

I'm bumping this shit. We need to get back to dead talk.

Been trying to expand my horizon that is usually the 60's-80's. What are some really killer 90's shows or even songs?

EDIT: Even better, recommend me a little JGB to go with it.

The best show I saw in the 90's was EASILY 9-10-91 MSG with Branfor Marsalis. It was outta this world. Download it NOW, you'll thank me later. I'll never forget that show as long as I live!

My friend and I had taken the train from Baltimore, but paid no attention to the return ticket. The train didn't leave NYC until 5 AM!!! So there we were, two 18 year-olds in the big city with nothing to do for 5 hours after the show, spun out of our heads. It was weird!!!

We ended up staying in Penn Station watching all the other freaks of NYC.

I like anything from 1970-1991, with a few exceptions. There are some shows that are rough around the edges like 1986 when Jerry came back from his coma. My favorite shows are from 1972, 1978, 1985 and 1989. I LOVE Brent's sound in '85. Anything after 1991 is not worth listening to, in my opinion. Frankly, I prefer to only listen to anything pre-Vince Welnick. I hated Vinces sound and playing and the only reason I recommend 1991 is because those summer shows with Bruce Hornsby were really amazing. Anything with just Vince is shit, in my opinion.

My first show was 6-26-87, Alpine Valley, WI. Truly amazing experience. I was hooked from that day on.

Fellow Heads up in here!!

Keep this thread going.

How many Grateful Dead shows have you been to? I saw 19 or 20. I'm not asking about side projects or after-bands, just the Good Ol' GD with Jer-Bear!

The San Francisco Giants had a Jerry Garcia night the other night. when they played the cubs, game one i want to say of four. During the 7th inning stretch they broke a world record for the most kazoos playing at one time.. its was neat to watch.. that game when into the bottom of the 11th or 12th with the Giants winning by one run. and I KNEW Jerry was watching over San Fran that night smiling with all the deadheads in the crowd paying him respect.

Anything with just Vince is shit, in my opinion.

i think vince ended up taking a lot of the blame that should have fallen on garcia being more interested in being wasted than rehearsing with the band or showing up more than physically every night.

i think a lot of his sounds were a little lame too, but you have to remember that cutler sucked compared to healy at live sound plus it was bralove picking his sounds instead of him - he wanted to play piano most of the time. plus brent's samples were awful too, he sounded like shit unless he was playing organ.

i think vince's songs were awful but so were brent's. i mean shit, i will take you home is such a total mind-sucking buzz kill, and to listen to it today is just a reminder of another drug overdose broken promise to a kid. fuck that shit.
