Going to Jail / Prison: The Essentials.

My boy was in rikers for a minute and he was on cleanup, said he use to get mad shit in there liquor smokes all that shit cuz it was his job to pickup the garbage in the visitin area after visits. I aint been there so I aint tryna say but he aint no fool and he said it wasnt all that fucked.

Um, hope this ain't directed at me. Personally I think yer one of the best folks round here, I'd not like to get on your bad side.

When I say I'd kill myself, I mean as opposed to LIFE in prison. Not over no silly charge where I go to county. I haven't been there yet and I hope I get to avoid it for the rest of my life, but just because I am a jail virgin does NOT mean I have no respect for people who have. Exactly the opposite in fact, anyone who has been through that and Isn't a dick about it (like YEA BRO I'm so HARD i been in JAIL d00d so COOL!) i respect because it's a nasty situation and going through the experience likely gives one a different outlook on everything.

lol. I posted a story with that same exact scenario somewhere in DC just a few days ago. Didn't want to give her a heart attack, so I stayed in.

Na yo it wasnt at you at all. There was some clowns who was tryna be funny. Definately not you, dont be paranoid =D
 
Never been to prison and I don't think I will, but I've been wrong before, however I have been to county 4 times, the longest an 11 month stay, should have been 8 months but I got some good time taken away. Jail is completely inhumane, 8 hours a day stuck in your cage, then they let you out to eat some bullshit, go back in your cage for 2 hours so they can count you, let you back out to watch tv or play cards so you dont go insane, then lock in your cage for the night.

Some essentials would have to be having someone on the outside to put money in your account for you, if you have to live on jail food alone get used to starving cause they give you the bare minimum to stay alive. Do not act tuff, even if you are, be cool with people and you wont have a problem, tho it's not prison and you rarely have to worry about getting hurt, if you act like a tuff guy chances are someone's gonna call you out, most people just want to do their time and get the fuck out.

Find people you can get along with, join in the card games/basketball or whatever their doing to pass time, after a while it will become routine and your days will fly by, do not try to sleep your time away, it doesn't work, you usually just end up thinking about how your stuck and there's no way in hell your getting out till your times up. No matter how shitty the CO's treat you, comply with them, they dont give a fuck about you and if you argue with them they will not hesitate to lock you in your cage for 24 hours, or take away your good time.

Thats all I can think of right now, your time to get out will come soon enough and you adjust to it if you let it, do not fight it because it's just going to make it that much worse. Just try to stay the fuck out of there!
 
i have gone to jail 3 times. 2 times in louisiana i didnt spend more then a day in each one . one of them you stayed locked in your cell for 80% of the day. the other you got to roam around a open area for about 75% of the day and only were locked in your cells at night.

In texas i was locked in solitary the whole time because they thought i was suicidal because of my tatts they seen and the scars up and down my arms. so i stayed locked in a room by myself for a couple weeks in a green rubber suit thing.
 
I know people who were millionairs and went to jail and lost it all. If you ask your friends or family members to hold a property for you good luck...

I'm talking about the penatentry though.
 
I have what will come off as a really stupid, silly question about going to jail.

I don't mean any disrespect to the people posting in the thread, this is honestly something that came up in conversation about a year ago, and I've been wondering about it ever since. It's such a stupid little thing that I figure only someone who's been through the system would actually know the answer.

Now, as I understand it, when you're booked into jail they collect your clothes and personal effects... and then return them to you when you get out again.

My question: Does the state wash and/or dry clean your clothes before returning them to you? Or do you get them back in the same state as when you left them?
 
My thought was that exiting jail is probably stressful enough, never mind being forced to do so in clothes that potentially look and smell really terrible.

Like I said, it's stupid and not all that significant. But petty as it may be, I guarantee that somebody in the penal system had to make an official decision as to whether inmate's street clothes got washed or not.

When I'm bored, I get a kick out of digging up these random bits of trivia.
 
Tips for doing time:

1. Have a rich family who's willing to send you plenty of money every week and not expect anything in return. A significant other or friends to write you love letters daily helps too, but not as much as the rich family putting money on your books.

2. Smuggle as much tobacco and rolling papers in your stomach and ass as you can. You'll make friends REAL quick and make some quick cash. You can sell $0.10 worth of rolling tobacco for $5 in a non-smoking jail/prison.




Honestly you guys, there's not much to say about "going to jail: the essentials". You're powerless once you're in jail unless you have a big bank account and someone trustworthy on the outside to use it for you. Most lawyers are going to be of little help outside of the court room.

Definitely make sure you have mailing addresses and home phone numbers of friends and loved ones who are supportive before going to jail. You're very unlikely to ever be able to dial a cell phone from jail/prison, and the guards aren't going to let you use a phonebook or search Google to find the contact information you need.

Man, I would hate to go to prison for lets say 8 years. Such a waste. The whole time I'd be there id be thinking "Wow, I could have gotten myself a ph.D in something and be offing making millions.
 
s3xyst3ve, if you spend 8 years in prison you CAN get your PhD dude. I'm pretty sure every min/medium security prison in the country lets you take college classes for free, and most states cut time off your sentence when you get a college degree.
