Well dont I just look like the biggest nastiest twat alive now. Suppose this will have to be my last post for a while. Fucking ridiculous

Have a good christmas folks

There's nothing wrong with having an opinion in the minority. Hell, I experience this with every post. Though I think Evey feels you misrepresented the truth about her in your post.

Im confused. What happened?

Just thought I would get a quick HAPPY DIWALI in to those that celebrate it. I still can't get my head round this though' Diwali is also a time to honour the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, and rows of lanterns are lit to guide her into people’s homes. People may leave their doors open during the festival to prompt her entry.'-source The Telegraph.

Come follow the lights to guide you in to my home to rob me blind..honour the goddess of wealth take it all..sorry not meaning to dis-respectful but come on...

Sounds lovely I love rain. Well when I'm inside anyhow.

Evey

It was nice actually, went up on the roof to stand in it for a while like a nutcase (tale end of a storm that has been going around the gulf region). Whats funny is when the rains start next year (change of the season storms) people go out in the street, kids play in it and quite a few people just go out and stand in it.

Good Morning Eadd :)

I hope everyone is well - Lovely sunny day here today and the start of my weekend, hopefully I should be finished what needs to be done in a few hours then the rest of the day is mine.

BBQ is on the cards for later

Have a great day

That sounds ace. Oh I love a good storm, but when I'm inside hehe :) I made a thread here once asking people to share their storm experiences so if you have a good one can you please share it? I guess if it's been hot for awhile n you don't have much, the rain will seem rather exciting especially witj kids. Here it's just ordinary, every day occursnce lol <3

I dunno you pop out of bluelight for a while...do a shed load of powders..steam clean the house from top to bottom, have a cup of coffee and a fag..pop back in and all hell seems to have broken loose and not many people seem to know why...crazy world of the bluetwilighters now in full flow.

I don't know what's gone down and I am not going to fan any flames.

How is yer back Sadie?

Can we mention the C word yet? I never really want or need anything for Christmas. Presents I prefer to give but this year I actually would like something in particular...bad bad materialistic me.

I think I have been awake 48hours now not a long-time with my unusual sleep non regime but I have been working like a bastard and I acheeeee......just going to do one more coat of paint on this thing and that's it...

This post made me giggle n prompted me to make a thread of the big C hahaha. You all know that Bluelight has it's own extra Christmassy sub-forum, don't ya? Festivus or summit it called. I was lurkiez last year but look fwd to that being open again :) xxxx
Did you get some sleep after, Inflo? <3

Morning, Bluelighteeeeeees <3 Happy Thursday. What do you all have planned, mostly working I assume? xxxx

We have yearly storms as the weather changes - great electrical storms, lightning etc. Scariest one was in the States 2004 Hurricane Jeanne that was an experience for sure. Our flight was the last one that was allowed to land as the storm was just hitting (landing was fun), we were on a fly drive and it was like something out of a movie, thankfully we made it to our first hotel without that many problems before the storm hit fully.

Sides of buildings, roofs, signboards etc were all being torn off, trees being blown over, our hotels lift shaft mechanics (small room on the top)/central ac units etc was ripped off so the stairwells were flooding but it was safer to stay (there was a police curfew so you were not allowed out anyway). The amount of damage was incredible though, I went out later on in the evening after it had calmed down and it was just insane.

It was a last minute flight, I was in Manchester airport with a packed suitcase - found a really cheap flight out of I think Birmingham so hired a car and off we went. The reason the flights were so cheap, er hurricane Jeanne was heading the same direction 8(.

Morning EADDers... :)

Yet another largely quiet day for me.

I suppose I will do some job hunting at some point, although it is proving to be rather a slow process. So far I've applied for one but never heard back. Got halfway through applying for another two only to find out they wanted specific experience, something which neither had mentioned in the advert... complete waste of time. I really don't understand why the vast majority of jobs out there seem to want experience, it's like where do you start?!

I guess I could apply for graduate schemes, but I'd rather ease myself into work having been unemployed for 3 years... plus I don't want to relocate. Still, I shall keep looking & hopefully find some more opportunities like the first one I applied for. I do have a feeling less people are advertising now in the run up to Christmas though.

As it happens, the first storm to be officially named by the Met Office, Storm Abigail, is bearing down on the west coast of Scotland at the moment. I'm on the east coast so will miss out the worst of it, but we are due to get some pretty strong winds tonight through tomorrow morning.

@Bear - that's certainly one way to cut down travel expenses, certainly a bit hairy though! :D

Wow Bearee tgat sounds horrendous. Chatty good luck with the job hunting xxxx

When it is not something I ever want to repeat, I'm sort of glad that I've had the experience (might sound a bit strange). It did actually get a bit scary at times I have to admit!

Just wondering has anyone played Fallout4 PS 4 yet - only 60$ online so thinking about buying it.

just been to the psychiatrist, extremely frustrating, there is basically nothing they can offer me which is effective, and I feel like shit. They suggested lithium, which sounds like a total pain in the ass and also not really appropriate as there is no manic element to my depression.

Sorry to hear that Ceres - lithium does sound awful (from my limited knowledge) but wasn't Sammy G taking the stuff and said it helped?

Awh sorry to hear that things are not going well at mo, Ceres <3 Do you have depression only or biploar? It's just that I think lithium is main prescribes for bipolar, not completely sure though. Have they offered you any counselling or CBT? Or have you done these before?

I was thinking about Sammy G. He's got bipolar n possibly may have been on lithium but not sure without asking him.

I assume you have either tried, or been offered the full range of medications like SSRIs, SNRIs & TCAs? There is even the possibility of using an AP as an add-on medication, Abilify is probably the most common in that regards. Like Evey said therapy might be of some benefit too.

You say, "FUCK WINTER", are you implying there is a seasonal element to your depression? I guess you could try some light therapy if so.

What I'm trying to get at here is I'm sure there is some form of treatment out there that will work for you, although it does sound awfully frustrating if your p-doc is falling short on that front.

With regards to Lithium, here's something you might find interesting in response to asking whether it's common to use it for depression:
NSFW:
Your question is a good one. It is an irony that although lithium is not FDA approved as an augmentation strategy for treating depression, there is probably more evidence supporting the efficacy of lithium in this regard than for any other strategy, except for perhaps some of the newer anti-psychotics like Abilify (generic aripiprazole), which you tried. The primary reasons for this paradox are historical and financial. The studies showing benefit for lithium as an augmenting agent were done years ago, before people thought much about getting FDA approval for complex pharmacological strategies such as augmentation. And lithium has been available in generic form for years, so there was no financial incentive for pharmaceutical investment to do the big studies needed to obtain FDA approval.

You are quite right that lithium is primarily known for its use in bipolar disorder, where it has been shown to be quite effective in treating manias and moderately effective in preventing/treating depression and in keeping people's moods stable over long periods. But it also has been known for years to rapidly convert antidepressant nonresponders to responders and to do so at doses lower than are required for optimal treatment in bipolar disorder. No one knows for sure how it works as an augmenting agent, but many scientists suspect that its effects may trace to an ability to increase activity of the neurotransmitter serotonin.

In general people who respond to lithium when added to an antidepressant do so within a couple of weeks, rather than the four to six weeks that are often required for response to standard antidepressant agents. This means that if you have been taking lithium at a reasonable dose for more than two to three weeks and you have not seen an improvement it is unlikely that it will benefit you.

Because approximately half of all patients do not respond adequately to the first antidepressant they try, you would think that we'd have a multitude of studies to guide us as clinicians regarding what to do next. But in fact, we know remarkably little about this hugely important issue.

The best data we have come from a large (and in psychiatry circles famous) study called the STAR*D trial. This study started about 4,000 people on a widely used selective serotonin antidepressant called citalopram and then tried everyone who failed this medication on all sorts of different treatments, one after another. The findings were unexpected. Basically, a variety of medication approaches were equally effective in people who had failed a first antidepressant and it didn't appear to matter much which approach any given patient was assigned to. What did emerge clearly from the study was that the more medication regimens a person failed the less likely he or she was to eventually respond to any type of pharmacological treatment.

So the take-home message from the data we have currently available is that if the addition of lithium to your antidepressant doesn't resolve your depression you have a number of options, all of which are about equally likely to work. In general these strategies boil down to one of two options: you can switch to a new antidepressant or you can add something to the antidepressant you are on.

As I said above, at this point the evidence is probably strongest for using atypical antipsychotics to augment antidepressants, although interestingly this wasn't one of the options explored in the large STAR*D trial. In terms of what else can be added, it increasingly appears that every class of psychiatric medication can be used to augment antidepressants, with no clear guidance available in terms of which class is likely to be best for any given individual. Depending on what type of side effects made the Abilify intolerable for you, it is possible that one of the other atypical antipsychotics might be of benefit to you. Lithium is well supported by studies. Slightly less well supported is the thyroid hormone liothyronine (often called T3 for short). Studies suggest that adding an additional antidepressant to the one you are already taking may be effective, as may be the addition of a psychostimulant such as d-amphetamine or methylphenidate (popularly known by the brand name Ritalin).

So although this may all seem confusing, the good news is that many options exist for helping you "jump start" your response to the antidepressant you are currently taking.

PS - You are more than welcome in the mental health sub-forum, there are a lot of lovely people with experience & advice to offer there.... <3

evey: it is just depression, not bipolar.

chatative: thanks for the info. I do have a light therapy box, which is a bit intense but does help the days feel a bit longer. I have tried all the medications going, the guy suggested an MAOI even, which I thought just sounded risky.

I will just self medicate with stuff from the grey market that acutally helps. I didn't even realise there is a mental health subforum!

WATERFORD lad Jamie Lonergan pleaded with peers today to give him a shout if anyone comes across DMT over the next few weeks.

The part-time horticulturist and rapper pleaded with WWN to ask readers to contact him personally if they know of anyone distributing the synthetic drug after reading all about it online.

“Dey calls it de spirit molecule or somethin’,” he explained, pointing a finger directly between his eyes. “It’s meant ta bring ya to another dimension through your penis gland; sounds like some bang in fairness.”

Dimethyltryptamine, a psychedelic compound of the tryptamine family, is a structural analog of serotonin and melatonin and a functional analog of other psychedelic tryptamines that has recently gained interest online due to its beneficial mental health healing properties and addiction treatment.

“Yeah, it fucks you up and der does be people trippin about aliens and everything,” added Lonergan, who is willing to pay €100 euro a gram for the product. “Everyone needs an auld cosmic lecture now and again and this stuff is meant ta pack some trip off it.”

Offering to barter with some dried out ‘mushies’ he picked last week, the 25-year-old is even willing to trade 300 ‘nipple caps’ in exchange for some DMT.

“Have some proper mushies der an’all,” he added, pointing out that magic mushrooms are still around, despite it being November. “Tis a fair swap, and if anyone wants, I’ll even throw in a few speckled ghosts as well. They’re broken up in a bag, but grand for snorting”.

If you have DMT, or know someone who can get it, please contact the public phone box outside Burger King on 051- 305 300, and ask for Jamie.
