Well he said in his previous posts that he uses the pc a lot for other stuff
I assume if he is doing stuff like animation or rendering then the more memory the better knock?
If I am wrong feel free to correct

I didn't see any posts about animation or rendering. Even if so, 32 GB is an awful lot that will probably never get used, and the only reason machines are sold with so much (first laptop I've seen with more than 4GB personally) is cos RAM is silly cheap. But there's no need to make it a minimum requirement. If you have too much cash, by all means, but you're kidding yourself if you think you will use it.

Games. Won't use that much! There is only so much data in a video stream, and it's not that much.

If you play lots of games, you need storage, HARD DRIVE. How big is that SSD? cos they used to be too small to hold lots of games. Might have moved on tho.

edit: I see it has hard drive AND SSD. interesting. Pointless upgrading. Your money :|

32gb of RAM is absurd.

I play a lot of games too. My computer has 8gb of RAM, I've had it for 3 years and I don't think I've ever capped out the 8gigs. Most that's ever in use at one time is 3-4GB.

32gb of RAM is a waste of money. Invest that money in a better graphics card instead.

I'm FINALLy gonna get a new laptop...this thing is rubbish, 40gig HD, 1gig ram, nothing works, dvd/cd can't read or write any more, 2 usb slots, no card readers, keyboard failed, (using an old wired plugin usb keyboard now)...painfully slow...loads of software just won't run on it...

anyway, my budget is £350, I can't see us needing anything pricier, we're not gamers, I'm gonna play GTA5 but I'm getting a ps3 to play that....unless a 350quid laptop would be better....

is it possible (or is it a stupid idea) to still get XP instead of vista or win8 or whatever?

Don't want any preloaded software, office suites etc....

Thankyou! I know I periodically ask this, but this time we got to do it....

15inch screen is ample, 17 inch be nice though... :)

laptops in general are IMO a poor compromise without a docking station (with proper keyboard, monitor and mouse), if you mean to use them seriously.

you don't want win xp. it's not even supported anymore by microsoft. you definitely don't want vista ffs. same for windows 8

if you're used to xp, you'll get along peachy with windows 7. if you get a lappy without an OS, you'll be able to get sorted for win7 via buddies here.

whatever OS you get you can get it reinstalled with windows 7

(just don't pay for a bundle of additional software with your laptop if you can avoid it for the love of god)

[edit]
pee ess: I'll believe it (you getting a new lappy) when it ipplepens ;p

next April XP is over.

And yeah, good advice re bundled software, most people won't need it, plenty free alternatives for most stuff a home user would want.

exactly, we don't use our laptop seriously, whatever the fuck that means.

We watch the odd film or tv show on it, listen to music (but through and external graphics card and into a proper amp and speakers anyway), interweb, son plays a few games....

managed with one for 7 years....

And Marmz, thanks, will try and find a win7 one, or just install win7 over whatever I get. I don't want any software at all with it. Or peripherals in "special bundles"

:)

1st stop ebuyer?

bwahahahah, i know I've been threatening to for a couple of years, but this keeps creaking on... :D

next April XP is over.

I said that already!

he wants windows 7. windows 7 is perfect for him .. unless he's gonna go down the linux route ... which is highly doubtful

@ MM: I'll keep my eye out and link anything in the consumer thread if I find 'owt .. i suggest other peeps do the same.

Not that we haven't been here 1000 times already with your lappy replacement, but whatever ;p
