Barry Kidston .... a depressing cautionary tale if ever there was one. He was trying to synth MPPP (a synthetic opiod) but fucked it and made MPTP instead which iirc gave him and some friends instant Parkinsonism.

Yeah, that's the one I'm thinking of, although they didn't give any details.

Horrible tale... didn't pan out too well after those events either.

There was a slender silver lining in that advances in the understanding and treatment of Parkinson's were made because of that incident but obviously we're still a long way off from fixing the fucker.

That's horrific. Did their health deteriorate from that moment on?

I Like This Lots

Supermarkets and online stores will be the only thing left at this rate

Yep, sadly HMV are in administration now. Over 70% of music is now bought online, and this seems to have happened quite quickly - I wouldn't be at all surprised if they signed long leases on incredibly expensive high street shops back when this looked far less likely.

remembered spending hours looking through cds in hmv back in the day, think the first cds i bought were from there were the slim shady lp and linkin park hybrid theory, loads of posters and crap. although if i recall theyre pretty over priced

I'll miss the HMV speaker systems that often pumped out decent music while I played xbox in their stores. I really liked HMV's interior design too...That's something the online market can never provide.
