Gibberings CLXXXVII - Shamming The Docs Summat Rotten

haha - Josh, I feel asleep last night, read your follow up posts, knew what you meant. Did they remove your sense of humor when then were busy?

Maybe my sense of humour was up my arse when they removed that.

Ah, don't feel too bad. It seems that you've not had many external disks shit themselves before, and Bear's error message was a common one to appear when they're on their way to HD Heaven. I'm sure you learnt something from this. ;)

I've had plenty of hdds fail on me, I've just never been bothered by the data loss as I've always had my data backed up in at least two other locations, one off-site. I'm sure Bear does the same so no problem!

To anybody who is interested: look to the left of the moon right now to get a really good view of Venus and Mars together. Venus is the brightest thing in the sky and Mars is the little pink dot above Venus :D

Too cloudy here. I always do like to tip my hat to Venus an' all.

Do you associate with any good whistle players, Don? I mean, not just people who played it at school? I've taken it up, because I love the things and it's cheaper than a 'zouk. I can't bear to play guitar anymore and my voice is shot to fuck, so it's a way of enjoying music again.

Not JUST people who played it at school? I went toschool(consrvtry) with a lass who made the most impressive detailed walls of noise with flute and a laptop, tape loop style

I don't know anyone who plays the whistle, as far as I know. What happened with playing guitar? I've never played a bouzouki but I have a mandolin which is enough to put me off. I suppose I should just put a bit more time in to playing it.

Oh, I know there are schookids who are virtuosos. It's just that the tin whistle's regarded as a kid's first instrument in a lot of Ireland, so a lot of people give it up once they stop being coerced.

I see, like the Dutch blokfluit (Usually a simple wood "block flute" for the children, altho here's a particularily pretty one)

Depression and the loss of skills totally killed the guitar for me. As did playing the same chord for hours. I only played to accompany my singing really, and now that's fucked.

I'd love a mandolin! I picked up a bouzouki once and just bonded with it. Unfortunately, before long the owner took it off me after his girlfriend commented on how well I was playing it. They're not too difficult.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I was an accomplished shredder ten years ago, now I can barely string together a few clichéd blues licks.

If I have a few consecutive weeks off work and practice two or three hours every day, by the end of it I'm pretty good again. As soon as I return to work and miss a day or two of practice, it's like the preceding few weeks never happened.

Maybe I'm just not cut out to play the kind of stuff that interests/inspires me. :(

Nah, it isn't you.

I used to memorise the lyrics of hundreds of songs, entire poems and paragraphs of novels.

It turned to shit as soon as I hit eighteen, or thereabouts.

I love seeing the planets. Sirius is amazingly colourful when you give it a good stare. I'd have had a look if I'd seen it earlier but tomorrow may be clearer here anyway. shite in the bright lights of the big city.

Music, oh yeah, the guitar is something I've never really bonded with, 4 stringed instruments for me
Tin whistles are amazing, for something so cheap and simple they are brilliant. I always meant to buy anexpensive one never did. One year my dad came back from Ireland with about 10 different d whistles for me.
I shouldve' had another violin to my bow that my uncle left it but my selfish little cousin sold it so she could buy a ridiculous amount of flowers for the funeral. That may sound harsh of me but harsh but while my uncle was in hospital dying he said it was in the house for me and she heard it . said she had to sell everyfink to afford the flowers. ah well. I might get it out and give it an aul blasht now.

edit. one of the best buzzes I've ever had is playing in a session. the telepathy and the energy between the musicians is something else. there are no leaders and you drop in drop out as you feel really beautiful

I used to play the clarinet, played it from a very young age and became quite accomplished at it. Only then to let my ego get in the way when I was 13ish and I deemed it really uncool to be playing and I thought the rest of the orchestra were cramping my style 8)

I really do wish I could turn the clock back on that one. I couldn't read a single note off a score now.

I'm not bad on the guitar, I'm far from good though...

being young can be awful... the things you think you're too cool for and the things you think are sooooo coooool! That is what I love about getting older but all the responsibilities do my head in a bit.

True.. I was only thinking today that I'm so glad I'm not young now, I think the pressure on kids these days is so much intense with the likes of social media.

I was looking at my daughter full of fear for her, I hope so much she knows her own mind and pleases herself. I also hope Facebook implodes..

Responsibilities, yup, meh....

I've been so miserable and deflated this week! ha I must need work to keep me going...and people...and money. Thank you bluelight, always cheers me up in this world of social media. can't be doing with feckin eastenders...they've gotcha well fooled as my dad would say, they're only acting. always cheers me up here and makes me feel more normal and les lonely. I must get my written word more co herent again. I am just a bit lazy. Today I discovered that I can cycle all the way to work in the same time it takes to cycle and train so that's what I'l be doing from now on. I feel drained by the commuter train just looking at everyones faces on it, then when I catch a cab that drains me, no more pointless pastime than sitting in traffic on your way to slave camp. (brighten up gal) gotta find the right shortcuts at work and lighten up . get into the old joke thread. catch y'all tmra people. I'm going to reward myself with a half hour o bluelight of an evening from now on and not spend hours staring at shite on fb.
