Haha, I know what you mean - nearly shed a tear at a big happy dug on the telly the other week.
I think I had a couple of lines of meph last night off one of my mates. I can still smell it. Haven't seen anyone with it round here for a long time before then. Cunts were on the hunt for ketamine but we had no luck.
What's folks opinions on this. Had an argument with my flatmate and another one of my mates about this last night. There's a few shitty dance nights on round here where they get random unknown DJs to do the "warm-up" sets. All they care about is how many tickets the DJ can shift. If the DJ sells all his tickets for the pre-party then he gets to play at the main event the following month(playing before a reasonably big name DJ). Lucky if they play for an hour, probably more like 45 min sets to cram more cunts on the bill and therefore get more of their mates in. The DJs don't get paid.
A pair of folk I know played for these guys recently, apparently they were total guff at the pre-party thing, couldn't work the mixer properly and kept accidentally stopping the music in between tunes. Yet they then went on to play a better timeslot at a better club the following month because they brought a load of mates.
Both of them thought this was OK, that that's what folk need to do to get experience or whatever and that it's fine because they would happily play for free anyway (they also seem to think it's ok for cunts to be shit at what they do but get by on their bored mates support). I think it's an absolute mile-out. Not only are they not paying the DJ to play tunes, they are also not paying them to promote their event and sell their tickets. It's a shady move from the promoter imo - who will be making money.
Thoughts? Am I totally wrong here? I'm not saying folk should stick rigidly to the "don't play for free" mantra, it's more the DJ then becoming an unpaid PR/ticket-shifter that gets on my tits (plus the not caring how good they actually are).
