I didnt really understand what your problem was with the DJ nights PTCH.

If the unpaid warm up guys are lacking experience / making technical fuck ups perhaps the unpaid practice is what they need until they become more profficient.

It's more of the fact that the shit new djs are getting to play again purely because they managed to draw in a crowd (ie bring loads of mates), whereas if a new dj actually has some talent and potential but doesn't fill out the club they don't get asked back.

Yeah true, but thats kind of like the difference between rehearsals and actually doing something live in front of paying punters, where the equipment might be different (i dont know FA about putting on this sort of thing as you can probably tell) as would the atmosphere and the nerves would probably be higher. You would probably need to go through that experience to learn to deal with it/enjoy it.

I understand what you're suggesting, but it's relatively easy to get that experience and still get paid. Or at least not have to do all the promotion legwork for the person who's going to be creaming off the cash.
