oh I am sorry Spade. 'BangKok.' I think i've got it now. :)

Unlike you I clearly stayed in some pretty poorly pavemented areas of Bangkok. Perhaps if you'd seen the gobby, rat run, johnnyfied gutters in the streets that my guest house was on you would have found a bench.

Or if I was being really pendantic, Krun Thep aka City of Angels also officially known as Krungthep Mahanakorn Amorn Ratanakosin Mahintara Yuthaya Mahadilokpop Noparat Rajathani Burirom Udom Rajaniwej Mahasatarn Amornpimarn Avatarn Satit Saka Tat Tiya Visanu Kumprasit which translated means The land of angels, the great city of immortality, of various devine gems, the great angelic land unconquerable, land of nine noble gems, the royal city, the pleasant capital, place of the grand royal palace, forever land of angels and reincarnated spirits, predestined and created by the highest Devas. The name Bangkok comes from the Chinese name for the city and means “village of the wild plum" because the official Thai name is too long. ;)

You shouldn't have stayed in a slum then Yella. I know the streets are dirty and I saw rats and cockroaches all the time but sitting on the pavement doesn't bother me, unless there's an open sewer or something nearby. Which area of town were you in and how long ago was this?

you should put reviews on tripadvisor Yella :D

I fuckin LOL'd. :D

Khao San Road Spade. I was on a budget and stayed in one of those little 'rooms' with cardboard walls covered in graffiti written by people that had contracted HiV in BangKok and wanted to warn travellers. There were spots of blood on the sheets and walls Spade. I should have slept in the temple.

This was about 18 years ago.

I dont think MM was taking the piss Spade. Hes not that kind of person. :)

P.S I came out of Tiny Chat chaps because my pc threw a wobbly... I'm off to bed shortly anyway.

.

Sounds like my hostel in Magaluf, except you were routinely shot at trying to get in the place, gas powered BB guns mind, had a fucking used tampon in the shower block and fuck all security. The loo was complete with a glory hole the size of the cardboard thing from a bog roll

Always wanted to go to SE asia but travel costs are putting a hinderance on it, how much would be an average summer for a BLer be living on the cheap?

I would never stay on KSR it's self (too noisy and full of twats) but nearbye Soi Rambuttri (1 minute walk from police station / temple end of Kowsan Rd) is decent. Plenty of cheap but nice digs (I paid £12 a night for a private room, ensuite, aircon, tv, hot water, cleaned daily etc and it had 2 swimming pools), not too noisy street but lively enough with load of bars & restaurants etc.

What were you doing in BKK? Backpacking? Holiday? Picking up whores?

I <3 Bangkok, one of my favourite cities in the world so far, up there with Rio, Sao Paulo and Edinburgh.

Well it's cheaper (and better) than Magaluf, that is for sure. Some people reckon they can do SE Asia on about £10 a day but that'd be proper miserable IMO, pure scrimping and always worrying about money. I spend about £40 a day but I like a bit of comfort (my £12 hotel for example, most backpackers think that's too expensive and opt for shitty £2-£4 hostels and guest houses that are grim as fuck), I drink a lot of beer (it's about 60p for a small bottle of Chang in the 7/11, more in bars) and party a lot (can get pricey taking taxis all over town, going to clubs, buying drinks and being out till 10am), I mostly eat street food or cheap food from local cafes (50p-£1 a meal) but will have a pizza, subway or maccy dees when I want it and if I want to buy something or go on a trip, do some activity I'll do it. You can defo do it on less than £40 a day if you're willing to stay in the cheapest places, only eat street food, not booze too much and not do too many trips or activities. Most younger backpackers probably do it on about £20 a day I guess.

My flights last time round were £477 return with Emirates, bit of a bargain, would usually pay around £600-£700.

Backpacking on my way to oz.

I was in Thailand for about 4 months the first time and about 2 the next. ( about a year or so later )

I'm sure its a fabulous city. I just prefer beaches/palm trees n shit. I made sure I stayed in cities for as little time as possible when I was travelling.

Planning on doing a bit more next year :)

Edit Digi.. Re travelling in SE Asia. Cities anywhere are notoriously dear. Thats another reason I get out of them as soon as possible. Once you get out in the sticks the cheaper guesthouses can have more charm than the expensive ones or hotels.

I stayed in a little bamboo kind of hut on a mountain overlooking the sea for ridiculous rent... I think it was about 50 bart a day which if my memory serves me right was about a quid??? Spade?

What you get up to in Aus? I did it the opposite of you, went to Aus on a years working holiday visa, travelled up the east coast which was fun and saw / did some pretty cool stuff (barrier reef, fraser island, whit sundays etc) but I didn't rate Aus that much and after 3 months decided to not get a job there and go off to SE Asia. Flew into Singapore and worked my way right round, Sing, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand for about 6 months. Glad I made that decision, SE ASia was much better and more interesting than Aus. Then went back again this year in January for 5 months. Might go back to South America next year, few places not been yet and fancy exploring Brazil more.

Where you going next year?

Oh and how strict is Dubai for drugs if I have a sabatical and invest in a good box of Daz. By some fault of my own my passport is covered in Ketamine and one of my jeans in Coke aswell as most of my clothes having smelled weed at one point. If I double wash stuff and clean my passport would I make a transfer without getting an episode of banged up abroad.

Moral of the story being don't do lines of K off your passport. I cleared EU customs fine with said passport and coke pants though

Dubai will lock you up for life and chop off your hands for having drugs in your system let alone on your person. People have been jailed for having 0.001 grams of weed stuck to their shoes and a boy was jailed for having a poppy seed from a roll he bought in heathrow in his jacket pocket.

Which part of Thailand was that in Yella? I stayed in a few bamboo huts down south on the islands and went up north to the mountains up Chiang Mai way, very nice. 50B is about a quid now, not sure what it was like back in the middle ages however. ;)

Aye but was wondering if I could get through on a transfer after severe abstinence and washing my clothes something stupid like 3 times. Enough to get rid of every possible residue of drugs on my person? Know people who have got through Dubai being massive stoners. Has bad idea written all over it but going to Singapore with the family which is just as lovely. Don't even want to go to the arse end backwards shithole of a country built on a modern day form of slavery

I'd get a new passport and leave those jeans at home. Saying that I've taken valium through Dubai a couple of times, I thought twice about it in recent times and decided I won't do it any more.

I think Mugz should have no drugs (hasn't he just got off benzos, also?), and should use this as a learning curve. ;) I'm just jealous, because I can't keep up, any more. I'd feel so ill, after a week of it. Ha.

booze, 6-apb, valium, im off my cracker, surprinsly coherent. such a funny night

6-ABP makes me want to drink like there's no tomorrow, funny cos I don't touch a drop on MDMA

usually stops me drinking, although i got heavily on the booze regardless, wasnt a big bomb but its kept me amazing all night,

Mornin...

Its my wedding anniversary today!

Boy staying with his grandparents tonight.

Just waiting for my post (greetings cards etc) :D

Hope you all good weekends!

Mornin, Just off swimming with the family.

Have a good day MM are we wining and dining this eve ?

Gooood morning, beautiful people! Gettin up to sort the house out for my mate coming to stay. Actually my future housemate so that's gonna be kinda odd as he'll actually be living here in four weeks. We're going shopping for house things and I am genuinely (and somewhat depressingly) excited.
